Tue Aug 9 201122:57Matt Lindstrom to go on DL
Matt Lindstrom (arm) is expected to be placed on the disabled list.
The Rockies have said only to this point that Lindstrom has "arm soreness," and evidently it's enough to require a DL stint. It's unclear at this point how long he'll be out. Lindstrom will take a 2.89 ERA and 1.26 WHIP to the DL.

Tue Aug 9 201117:27Lindstrom unavailable with arm soreness
Matt Lindstrom is unavailable for Tuesday's game against the Reds due to "arm soreness."
The exact nature of the injury isn't known, but Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports that he is dealing with soreness beneath his arm. Huston Street (lat muscle) is also unavailable Tuesday while Matt Belisle has pitched in three straight games, so rookie Rex Brothers could get the call in a potential save situation.

Sat Jul 30 201109:17Report: Twins eying Rockies relievers
Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that the Twins "continue to monitor the Rockies' bullpen pieces."
With the emergence of Rex Brothers, the Rockies are making both Rafael Betancourt and Matt Lindstrom expendable. We're not sure the Twins should be buyers, but with both relievers also under contract for next season and having options for 2013, it wouldn't be just a short-term acquisition.

Mon Feb 14 201106:00No more back issues for Lindstrom
Matt Lindstrom believes his health issues are behind him.
Manager Jim Tracy sees Lindstrom helping the team in many different ways, including as Huston Street's replacement if needed. The former closer is a prime rebound candidate in 2011. He has long wanted to play in Denver, where he's lived during most of his major league off-seasons. His back issues likely are "in the past," which should positively impact his velocity. And he still has dominant stuff, compiling a 2.80 ERA and 21 saves by the All-Star break last season before falling apart in the second half. If his health holds up, Lindstrom has the skills to be a big contributor for the Rockies.

Mon Jan 17 201114:55Rox ink Matt Lindstrom to two-year extension
Rockies signed RHP Matt Lindstrom to a two-year contract extension.
The deal buys out the final two years of Lindstrom's arbitration-eligibility. The 30-year-old posted a poor 4.39 ERA and 1.65 WHIP in an active 2010 season for the Astros, but the Rockies liked him enough to trade two minor leagues for him this winter and will use him as a setup man for the next two years. He also has a club option for the 2013 season.

Thu Dec 23 201018:40Rockies nab Matt Lindstrom for two pitchers
Rockies acquired RHP Matt Lindstrom from the Astros for RHP Jonnathan Aristil and LHP Wes Musick.
Lindstrom posted an ugly 4.39 ERA and 1.65 WHIP over 58 appearances for the Astros in 2010, but he still has a high-powered arm and a bit of closing experience. Maybe he'll be able to turn things around for the Rockies in a setup role. Or maybe he'll fall flat. Either way, Colorado didn't give up much and Lindstrom may represent a slight overall improvement in 2011.
Thu Dec 23 201017:09Rockies acquire Matt Lindstrom from Astros
Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports that the Rockies have acquired reliever Matt Lindstrom via trade from the Astros.

Mon Dec 6 201010:59Astros open to trading reliever Lindstrom
Ed Price of AOL Fanhouse reports that the Astros are willing to trade right-handed reliever Matt Lindstrom.
It might be tough to get much in the way of a prospect for Lindstrom, who posted a 4.39 ERA and 1.65 WHIP over 53 1/3 innings in 2010, but the Astros may be interested in simply dumping his salary. He is eligible for arbitration and due a raise from the $1.625 million that he earned this year.

Wed Sep 15 201017:41Astros' Lindstrom takes loss in 10th inning
Matt Lindstrom took a loss in relief Wednesday after giving up hits to all three Brewers he faced in the 10th inning.

Tue Sep 7 201009:41Lindstrom gives way to Lyon as Astros closer
Matt Lindstrom said Monday that he's not aiming to reclaim the Astros' ninth-inning gig from Brandon Lyon.
"Maybe next year," Lindstrom said. "Right now it's not really a goal of mine, considering we only have 25 games left. I just want to be a factor." It's not really Lindstrom's call, but he's been used in setup situations since his return from the disabled list and it appears that Lyon will remain the Houston closer through the end of the 2010 season.

Matt Lindstrom pitched a perfect inning and earned a hold Wednesday against the Cardinals in his first appearance off the DL.

Astros activated RHP Matt Lindstrom from the 15-day disabled list.
Lindstrom tossed a scoreless inning in a minor league rehab appearance with Double-A Corpus Christi on Tuesday night, paving the way for his return. We're sure he'll get save chances sooner or later, but keep Brandon Lyon for now.

Mon Aug 30 201023:02Lindstrom (back) hopes to return this week
Matt Lindstrom (back) hopes to return from the disabled list as soon as this week.
"I feel 110 percent better than I felt the last couple of days," said Lindstrom, who could begin a minor league rehab assignment as soon as Tuesday. "I'm ready to go get an inning in. I've been doing a lot of stabilization exercises and stuff like that and making good progress, too. Right now I feel like I did the first half of the season. It's just kind of like a big weight off my mind. I've been dealing with this for a long time now." Lindstrom hasn't pitched since August 16 due to back spasms. He'll likely be eased back into the closer role once he returns.

Fri Aug 27 201017:07Lindstrom (back) to begin rehab stint Monday
Matt Lindstrom (back) is expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment with Double-A Corpus Christi on Monday.
It's not known how long he'll stay there, however he is eligible to return as soon as Tuesday. That being said, don't look for him to get his ninth-inning role back right away. Brandon Lyon and Wilton Lopez could still get some chances if he is eased back into the role.

Thu Aug 26 201010:54Lindstrom has successful bullpen session
Matt Lindstrom (back) had a successful bullpen session Wednesday.
"Throwing with no reservations is a nice feeling," Lindstrom said. The reliever will take Thursday off before throwing another bullpen session Friday. He's eligible to return from the DL next Tuesday, and it sounds like he should be ready around that time.

Thu Aug 19 201008:34Astros place Lindstrom (back) on DL
Astros placed RHP Matt Lindstrom on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 17, with back spasms.
Lindstrom's recent struggles have coincided with lingering back problems, so the Astros will give him a couple weeks to rest. Brandon Lyon has to be considered the favorite for saves while he's out, but Wilton Lopez could also figure in.
Tue Aug 17 201017:37Lindstrom pulled from closer's role
Astros manager Brad Mills said that Matt Lindstrom will not close Tuesday.
Mills said that he wants Lindstrom to "get his feet back under him" after taking the loss in Monday's game against the Mets. Lindstrom has been struggling all month long, so this is an unofficial changing of the guard. In case it wasn't obvious already, pick up Brandon Lyon.

Matt Lindstrom (back) was available to pitch on Sunday.
The closer was not needed, however, since the Astros captured a decisive 8-2 victory over the Pirates. Lindstrom had been hobbled by back spasms for about a week, but should be back to closing games immediately.
