The Pirates will likely activate Jose Tabata (quad) from the disabled list Monday.
Tabata has been sidelined since the end of June with a strained left quadriceps muscle. The 23-year-old has experienced some stops and starts during his rehab, but is batting .333 (7-for-21) with one homer and four doubles over six games with Triple-A Indianapolis. The Pirates have discussed using him in right field upon his return.

Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said Monday that Jose Tabata (quad) will play some right field during his minor league rehab stint with Triple-A Indianapolis.
In fact, the 22-year-old is scheduled to play his first game in right field on Tuesday night. This is an indication that the Pirates could eventually go with Tabata in right field and Alex Presley in left. Tabata has never played right field in the major leagues, but has extensive experience there in the minors.

Jose Tabata (quad) went 1-for-1 with two walks in Saturday's Triple-A rehab game.
Tabata had a very successful rehab outing considering he was pulled with tightness during his last effort and had a perfect night at the plate. He will play in a few more rehab games before the Pirates deem him ready to return to Pittsburgh.

Jose Tabata (quad) is scheduled to resume his minor league rehab assignment Saturday with Triple-A Indianapolis.
Tabata was pulled from his rehab assignment a little over two weeks ago after feeling more tightness in his left quad. He'll likely have to make it through several games in the minors before the Pirates consider activating him from the disabled list.

Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said Jose Tabata (quad) is not close to resuming his rehab assignment.
Tabata had to be shut down after experiencing renewed tightness in his left quad on Wednesday. There had been indications that he could resume his rehab over the weekend, but it sounds like that won't be the case. Consider him out indefinitely.

Jose Tabata (quad) did a light on-field workout Monday afternoon and reported no problems.
Tabata will continue to work out with his Pirates teammates all week before potentially resuming his minor league rehab assignment on Saturday or Sunday. The outfielder has been on the disabled list since late June with a left quad strain and has already experienced one major setback.

Jose Tabata (quad) was examined by team doctors Saturday and will need to rest a few days before continuing to workout.
Tabata was removed from Wednesday's game with more left quad tightness. It remains unknown as to when he could return but it is safe to say his return isn't soon. With Alex Presley currently dealing with a bruised thumb Matt Diaz should continue to see time in left field.

Jose Tabata left a minor league rehab game with High-A Bradenton on Wednesday due to more tightness in his left quad.
Bad news. Tabata was able to get back on the field last night, but this latest setback is an indication that this rehab won't be an easy process. While this is a break for Alex Presley, look for the Pirates to step up their efforts to add an outfielder before the trade deadline.

Jose Tabata (quad) will be held out of High-A Bradenton's lineup for a third straight day Sunday after leaving Thursday's game with tightness in his leg.
Tabata will, however, go through a "full day of work" in terms of hitting, fielding and running the bases, according to Pirates manager Clint Hurdle. The setback was considered minor, but it has likely delayed Tabata's arrival with the Pirates a few days. It's not clear when he'll rejoin the big club.

Pirates manager Clint Hurdle indicated that Jose Tabata's (quad) setback Thursday likely wasn't a big deal.
Tabata was pulled from a rehab game with High-A Bradenton after feeling soreness in his quad. "They're going to re-evaluate (today)," Hurdle said. "He didn't want to push it right now. All the tests came back pretty good. There wasn't a re-injury type thing. For a young player whose game is dictated by speed, it was smarter backing away from the flame right there than trying to push through it."

Jose Tabata (quad) went 0-for-2 with two walks Wednesday in his first minor league rehab game with High-A Bradenton.
He served as the designated hitter. It's not yet known how long he'll spend in the minors, but we're guessing he could be back with the Pirates within a week. The 23-year-old outfielder was batting .265 with a .351 on-base percentage and 14 stolen bases in 20 attempts before injuring his quad late last month.

Tabata is hoping to begin playing in games with Single-A Bradenton early this week. The dynamic outfielder has been on the disabled list since late June with a strained left quad. He's shooting for a mid-July return.

Tabata suffered the strain in the first inning of Sunday's game against the Red Sox while legging out a bunt single. The 22-year-old had to be carted off the field and could need more than two weeks off. He'll leave behind a .265/.351/.354 batting line, three home runs and 14 stolen bases. Alex Presley should play left field for the Pirates in Tabata's absence.
