Uehara (hamstring) will report to Low-A Greenville on Wednesday and pitch a simulated game Thursday, the Boston Globe reports.
If all goes well, Uehara will pitch an inning for Greenville on Saturday. The plan is to have Uehara activated off the disabled list in time for Monday's home opener against the Nationals.
Tue Apr 7 201513:34Uehara (hamstring) threw 30 pitches in simulated game Tuesday
Uehara (hamstring) threw 30 pitches in a simulated game Tuesday, ESPN Boston's Gordon Edes reports.
Uehara's sim game reportedly went well, and he should be available at some point between Saturday and Monday. The Red Sox didn't need Edward Mujica on Opening Day against the Phillies, as a Hanley Ramirez grand slam extended Boston's lead to 8-0 in the top of the ninth inning.
Sat Apr 4 201516:14Uehara (hamstring) threw 35-pitch side session on Saturday
Uehara (hamstring) threw a 35-pitch side session on Saturday, the Boston Herald reports.
Uehara will next pitch for Low-A Greenville next weekend. If all goes well, he could return from the DL on April 13. Edward Mujica is expected to be Boston's closer while Uehara is on the DL.
Fri Apr 3 201516:02Uehara (hamstring) placed on 15-day DL on Friday
Uehara (hamstring) was placed on the 15-day DL on Friday, Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe reports.
The Red Sox effectively ruled Uehara out for the start of the season earlier this week, so this move comes as no surprise. Uehara came out of Monday's bullpen session with some renewed discomfort in the hamstring, limiting him to long toss Tuesday, but he got back onto the mound for a bullpen session Thursday. With a backdated stint, Uehara could be activated as soon as Apr. 11, though it's uncertain if he will be ready on that date.
Tue Mar 31 201514:17Uehara (hamstring) limited to long toss Tuesday
Uehara (hamstring) was limited to long toss Tuesday, after he reported continued discomfort during Monday's bullpen session, CSN New England reports.
The Red Sox have already said that Uehara won't be on the Opening Day roster, but the team is still evaluating its closer on a day-to-day basis. Uehara may start his season by sticking around at extended spring training, with the other option being a minor-league rehab assignment.

Uehara (hamstring) threw a 30-pitch bullpen session Monday, but still reported discomfort in his right hamstring, Ian Browne of MLB.com
Uehara is set to begin the season on the 15-day disabled list. He said that "It's a day-to-day process, I have to do what I have to do to get ready." Edward Mujica should get most of the save opportunities in Uehara's absence.
Mon Mar 30 201516:15Uehara (hamstring) will throw bullpen session Monday
Uehara (hamstring) will throw a bullpen session Monday, but is still expected to be unavailable for Opening Day, Alex Speier of the Boston Globe reports.
Uehara's timetable doesn't appear to have changed by the outing, but it's at least a positive sign he's moving in the right direction. While he hasn't been completely ruled out for Opening Day, it seems like the probable scenario. However, his absence isn't expected to extend too far into the regular season.
Sun Mar 29 201518:54Koji Uehara: (Hamstring) Unlikely For Opening Day
Uehara (hamstring) is considered unlikely for Opening Day, WEEI 93.7 FM reports.
Uehara suffered a bit of a setback during Saturday's bullpen session, dealing with some soreness. He'll likely miss some of the beginning of the regular season, but it shouldn't cost him too much regular season time should it indeed carry over.
Sun Mar 29 201511:26Uehara still felt some soreness in hamstring following Saturday'...
Uehara still felt some soreness in his hamstring following Saturday's bullpen session, the Boston Globe reports.
Uehara will be re-evaluated Sunday and needs to throw at least one more bullpen session before the Red Sox will let him throw in a game.
Sat Mar 28 201511:47Uehara (hamstring) has not been ruled out for Opening Day
Uehara (hamstring) has not been ruled out for Opening Day, ESPN Boston's Gordon Edes reports.
He threw a bullpen session Saturday and will be examined Sunday before throwing another bullpen session Monday. He's still dealing with some discomfort, which is why he will need one more bullpen session before potential game action. Barring any setbacks, it sounds like Uehara won't miss much time even if he is not cleared for the start of the season.
Thu Mar 26 201523:15Uehara (hamstring) threw 60 pitches off flat ground Thursday
Uehara (hamstring) threw 60 pitches off flat ground Thursday, ESPN Boston reports.
The plan is to have Uehara throw off flat ground again Friday and hopefully off a mound Saturday. Manager John Farrell is targeting Monday for game action, whether it be a minor-league game or one against the Twins.
Thu Mar 26 201510:16Uehara (hamstring) scheduled to throw on flat ground Thursday
Uehara (hamstring) is scheduled to throw on flat ground Thursday, Brian MacPherson of the Providence Journal reports.
Uehara hopes to progress to a bullpen session by the weekend if all goes well Thursday. His performance in those workouts will likely paint a much clearer picture of the projected closer's Opening Day availability.
Tue Mar 24 201513:07Koji Uehara: (Hamstring) "Growing Concern" Over Opening Day Availability
There is a "growing concern" over whether Uehara (hamstring) will be ready for Opening Day, the Providence Journal's Tim Britton reports.
Manager John Farrell said that with each passing day where Uehara is not pitching in spring games, his chances of being available for the opener on April 6 lessen. He has been long tossing on flat ground but there still isn't a set schedule for him to get back on the mound. Uehara has only made three appearances this spring, and Farrell said it would not be ideal for Uehara to go straight to pitching in big league games without him getting back on the mound for further action this spring. If Boston's closer goes on the DL list, it can be done retroactive to March 27, meaning he could come off the DL as soon as the first weekend of the regular season. Edward Mujica would be the likely fill-in closer if Uehara is not ready to go for the start of the season.

Uehara (hamstring) played catch with good intensity Monday and it won't be long before he gets into a game, the Boston Globe's Pete Abraham reports.
According to Abraham, Uehara had good zip on the ball out of a slow windup Monday, so it sounds like everything is looking good. This is a situation worth following in the coming weeks, as Uehara won't need a ton of spring innings to be ready to go for Opening Day, but he will need to get some action soon for that to be a realistic goal.
Sat Mar 21 201508:19Uehara (hamstring) played long toss Friday
Uehara (hamstring) played long toss Friday, the Boston Globe reports.
Long toss is the first step in Uehara's progression back to the mound. He'll move to throwing pitches off flat ground before getting onto the mound, something manager John Farrell feels will happen the middle of next week.
Thu Mar 19 201521:17Uehara (hamstring) plans on doing some light throwing Friday

Wed Mar 18 201513:03Koji Uehara: (Hamstring) Close Call For Opening Day
Uehara (hamstring) expects to be ready for Opening Day, but noted that it "could be a close call," Sean McAdam of CSN New England reports.
Uehara's injury occurred while running prior to Tuesday's outing, and it appears the issue could be a little bigger than the minor issue initially indicated. While extra appearances may not be required before taking the mound Opening Day, it would definitely be beneficial. However, it sounds like the issue could hold him out up until that point, putting his availability into question.
Tue Mar 17 201516:35Uehara day-to-day with minor hamstring strain
Uehara is day-to-day with a minor hamstring strain, CSN New England's Sean McAdam reports.
Uehara suffered the injury while running before Tuesday's game, and manager John Farrell said afterward that it isn't a long-term concern. The Red Sox will likely be cautious, as Farrell already said the team will closely monitor its soon-to-be 40-year-old closer this season.

Uehara got knocked around Saturday, giving up a run on three hits while striking out one in one inning.
Manager John Farrell didn't sound concerned when he explained away the outing as Uehara trying out a third pitch. He said Uehara was trying to throw more cutters in training camp, particularly in counts that he might not otherwise. Normally, Uehara would use the split when finishing off a hitter.

Uehara pitched an inning Tuesday, surrendering a leadoff double before retiring the side on two strikeouts and a popup.
The results Tuesday were much better that Uehara's spring debut when he allowed three hits in an inning against the Marlins last week.
