Sun Sep 16 2012 | 00:56 | Jesus Guzman hits three-run homer |
Jesus Guzman went 2-for-4 and hit a three-run homer versus the Rockies on Saturday. |
Guzman has done an excellent job as a platoon player, with a .306 average, four homers and 16 walks in 112 at-bats against southpaws this season. He doesn't have much defensive value, so he probably wouldn't be very valuable in an expanded role. He's an asset as is, though. |

Wed Jul 25 2012 | 19:03 | Jesus Guzman homers twice in Padres' win |
Jesus Guzman went 3-for-4 and hit his fifth and sixth homers of the season Wednesday against the Giants. |
Guzman is getting a bit more playing time of late, and he's now 10-for-27 with four homers this month. He may be a liability defensively in the outfield, but the Padres might want to keep sneaking him in there as long as he's hot. |

Sun Apr 15 2012 | 20:06 | Jesus Guzman hits into triple play |
Jesus Guzman went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in Sunday's loss to the Dodgers, and bunted into a triple play in the ninth inning. |
Yes, the Padres' "cleanup hitter" did in fact bunt into a triple play. With the game tied 4-4, Yonder Alonso singled to begin the ninth before Chase Headley drew a walk. But then in what was absurdly probably actually the right decision, the Pads elected to have their .162/.225/.216 hitting No. 4 hitter bunt. Guzman's attempt at a sacrifice bounced right in front of Dodgers catcher A.J. Ellis, however, who was able to begin one of the rarest, but technically conventional, triple plays you'll ever see. That being said, the play would not have been executed had there not been confusion about whether the ball was fair or foul. Regardless, Guzman's time in the four-hole is almost certainly near an end. |

Wed Mar 21 2012 | 02:30 | Jesus Guzman hits grand slam off bench |
Jesus Guzman came off the bench to hit a grand slam off Edgmer Escalona and lead the Padres to a 10-6 win over the Rockies on Tuesday. |
Everyone knows Guzman can hit lefties, and he more than held his own against righties as well last season. The door is again open for him to start for the Padres with Carlos Quentin down, though it'll probably be just a temporary assignment. Until Guzman has a position to call his own, his fantasy value figures to be pretty limited. |

Wed Aug 31 2011 | 18:43 | Jesus Guzman goes 3-for-3 |
Jesus Guzman went 3-for-3 with a walk and a steal Wednesday against the Dodgers. |
The Padres are going to have a hard time taking Guzman's bat out of the lineup in order to give Anthony Rizzo another look next month. His average is back up to .330 now, and he's driven in 35 runs in 182 at-bats since his callup. He's even a remarkable 8-for-8 stealing bases. He hadn't had that many steals in a minor league season since 2004. |

Tue Aug 2 2011 | 00:38 | Guzman has another nice night |
Jesus Guzman went 2-for-4 with an RBI in San Diego's loss to the Dodgers on Monday. |
Both hits came off of Clayton Kershaw. Guzman has now turned in three straight multi-hit efforts, and five in his past seven starts. Coming off a July where he hit .345/.400/.636 with 18 RBI in 22 games, there are more embarrassing fliers to take in mixed leagues. |

Thu Jul 28 2011 | 18:38 | Jesus Guzman hits fourth homer in win |
Jesus Guzman went 2-for-2 with a homer, two RBI and two walks Thursday to help the Padres top the Diamondbacks 4-3. |
Guzman is playing against more than just lefties now, and he's continued to have success. He's batting .329 with four homers and 17 RBI in 73 at-bats for the Padres. We still wouldn't recommend him in mixed leagues, but he's looking like quite an NL-only asset at the moment. |
