ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Orioles have interest in Julio Borbon but "have found the asking price to be high." |
Borbon was designated for assignment last week and is expected to be traded over the next few days. He would probably be an upgrade over Nate McLouth in left field, though the O's surely wouldn't just hand him a starting job. The speedy outfielder has also drawn interest from the Twins. |

Thu Apr 11 2013 | 12:59 | Twins 'kicking the tires on' OF Julio Borbon |
According to Darren Wolfson of 1500 ESPN, the Twins are "kicking the tires on" outfielder Julio Borbon. |
Borbon was designated for assignment by the Rangers on Tuesday to clear a roster spot for fifth starter Nick Tepesch. Wolfson suspects that the Twins will attempt to claim the 27-year-old once he clears waivers rather than rushing into a trade. Borbon is a .283/.324/.358 career hitter in the big leagues but possesses decent wheels. |

The Rangers made the move to clear a 40-man roster spot for fifth starter Nick Tepesch. Borbon has a career .283/.324/.358 batting line in the major leagues and good speed. The 27-year-old should draw interest on waivers. |

Borbon is out of options, and he won't clear waivers. The Rangers will try to find a trade partner for him, and agent Scott Boras has said that 3-4 teams are interested in his client. Borbon has plenty of speed and is plenty good enough to be an extra outfielder for someone. |

Borbon is out of options this spring while the Rangers are committed to Craig Gentry and Leonys Martin, so he figures to wind up elsewhere in the coming days. The 27-year-old appeared in just 32 games with the Rangers last season, but he has shown some ability in the past. |

Thu Feb 14 2013 | 16:50 | Julio Borbon out of options this spring |
Julio Borbon is out of options this spring. |
Borbon will have to either make the Opening Day roster or be exposed to waivers, in which case he would almost certainly be claimed. The soon-to-be 27-year-old has failed in previous opportunities in the big leagues and is behind Leonys Martin and Craig Gentry on the depth chart going into camp, so it's very possible he'll end up elsewhere by the start of the regular season. |

Borbon gets the boot after batting .250 (12-for-48) with one home run, four RBI, three stolen bases and seven walks this spring. As for the big club, Josh Hamilton should get plenty of playing time in center field with David Murphy and Craig Gentry forming a platoon in left. |

Sun Jan 22 2012 | 21:56 | Borbon reports discomfort in his ankle |
Julio Borbon reported discomfort in his ankle on Sunday night. |
Borbon wrote on Twitter: "Lil' sore from the slight twist, nothing serious or that I can't tolerate." He's currently playing in the Dominican Republic winter-league playoffs. Borbon didn't specify which of his ankles was sore, but we would speculate it's his left. Borbon underwent surgery in July to repair ligaments in his left ankle and missed the rest of the season. Borbon has been struggling lately, batting just .231 with a .257 on-base percentage over 74 plate appearances in the playoffs. Borbon is a candidate for the Opening Day center fielder job in Texas, a position he has earned the last two years, so the Rangers hope this complication is minor. |

Fri Jun 3 2011 | 15:54 | Rangers activate Borbon, send him to Triple-A |
Rangers activated OF Julio Borbon (hamstring) from the 15-day disabled list and optioned him to Triple-A Round Rock. |
Wow. Apparently the Rangers have really fallen in love with Endy Chavez. It's very hard to believe Borbon's stay in the minor leagues will be anything other than temporary, but Texas is clearly sending a message to its inconsistent 25-year-old center fielder. If you're an owner in an AL-only league, sit tight, as Borbon should still end up providing decent value this season. |
