Mon May 3 201009:05Ely to get second start despite rough debut
John Ely is scheduled to start Thursday against the Brewers despite allowing five runs in six innings in his major league debut.
With Vicente Padilla sidelined and knuckleballer Charlie Haeger looking far too hittable, the Dodgers really don't have a choice. Ely, a 26-year-old righty, should be avoided in all fantasy formats.

Wed Apr 28 201016:08Dodgers' Ely takes loss in major league debut
In his major league debut, John Ely surrendered five runs in six innings Wednesday in a loss to the Mets.
Ely made one big mistake, and it wasn't a pitch. With runners on the corners and none out in the second, Jeff Francoeur hit an easy comebacker to Ely. The 23-year-old had two choices: he could have gone after David Wright, who was too far off third base, or he could have fired to second to start the double play. Ely chose the latter, but he hesitated too long and got just the one out. Wright scored on the play, and the Mets ended up with four runs in the inning.

As expected, Ely is Wednesday's starting pitcher against the Mets. The 23-year-old right-hander was 2-1 with a 3.00 ERA and a 12/8 K/BB ratio in three starts (18 innings) for Albuquerque this season.
