Matt Dominguez blasted a three-run homer, powering the Astros to a 6-4 victory over the Phillies on Thursday.
He finished the evening 1-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored and three RBI. His three-run shot off Tyler Cloyd got the Astros on the board in the fourth inning, and he later walked and scored a run as part of a three-run uprising in the eighth inning. He's done a very nice job in his limited at-bats to this point, hitting .283 (15-for-53) with four homers and 10 RBI.

Thu Aug 30 201223:30Dominguez has three hits in loss to Giants
Matt Dominguez had a nice night at the dish in Thursday's loss to the Giants, going 3-for-4 and finishing a home run shy of the cycle.
Dominguez came over from the Marlins in the Carlos Lee deal, and was recalled from Triple-A prior to Thursday's contest. He doesn't offer much in terms of power or speed, making him a tough start in most fantasy formats, especially at third base. Still just 23 years old, there could be offensive upside here in the future, but he's unlikely to contribute much more this season.

Thu Aug 30 201217:17Astros recall Dominguez
Astros recalled 3B Matt Dominguez from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Houston acquired Dominguez from the Marlins in last month's Carlos Lee trade. The 23-year-old is excellent defensively but doesn't hit enough to carry fantasy value.

Sun Jul 8 201218:06Astros option 3B Dominguez to Triple-A OKC
Astros optioned 3B Matt Dominguez to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Current Astros' starting third baseman Chris Johnson is having a pretty decent year, so the newly-acquired Dominguez will get more at-bats in the minors. The 22-year-old is a terrific defender at the hot corner, but his bat has yet to come around, as evidenced by his career .252/.321/.410 batting line on the farm.

Thu Jul 5 201221:38Dominguez hitless in first game as an Astro
Matt Dominguez went 0-for-2 with a strikeout in his first game as a member of the Astros on Thursday.
It's unknown exactly how the playing time will be split up after the Carlos Lee trade, but in the first game it was Dominguez getting the call at the hot corner and Chris Johnson moving across the diamond to first base. Even if he does garner consistent playing time, Dominguez shouldn't merit consideration in most mixed leagues, as he's unlikely to generate much offensive production.

Wed Jul 4 201219:58Matt Dominguez added to major league roster
New acquisition Matt Dominguez will report directly to the Astros.
Current Astros' starting third baseman Chris Johnson is having a pretty decent year, so we suspect Dominguez will be a backup initially, but he'll certainly have a chance to earn ample playing time. The 22-year-old is a terrific defender at the hot corner, but his bat has yet to come around, as evidenced by his career .252/.321/.410 batting line in the minors.

Tue Mar 6 201213:56Dominguez suffers right eye contusion
Matt Dominguez suffered a right eye contusion Tuesday after getting hit in the head by a line drive.
The liner came off Danny Worth's bat. Dominguez may need to sit out a few days while the swelling calms, but he shouldn't be sidetracked too much if it's only a bruise.

Fri Nov 4 201119:57Matt Dominguez out out AFL Rising Stars game
Marlins prospect third baseman Matt Dominguez will miss Saturday's Rising Stars Game in the Arizona Fall League due to a bruised right thumb.
Dominguez suffered the injury during infield drills Friday, but the good news is that X-rays came back negative and he should return to game action within the next few days. The 22-year-old is still considered the Marlins' third baseman of the future, but remains a work in progress at the plate.

Mon Sep 5 201122:47Marlins call up Matt Dominguez from minors
Marlins purchased the contract of 3B Matt Dominguez from Triple-A New Orleans.
Dominguez was considered for the starting third baseman job during spring training, but the Marlins sent him back to the minors after he underwhelmed with the bat. The 22-year-old is still considered the third baseman of the future, but he remains a work in progress offensively, batting .258/.312/.431 with 12 homers and 55 RBI over 356 plate appearances at the Triple-A level this season. It's not known how much Dominguez will play down the stretch, but he is worth a flier in NL-only leagues.

Mon Sep 5 201120:30Marlins to call up Dominguez, Sanabia
The Marlins will call up prospect third baseman Matt Dominguez and right-hander Alex Sanabia from Triple-A New Orleans on Tuesday.
They'll join the big club now that the minor league season is over. Known more for the glove than his bat, Dominguez is batting .258/.312/.431 with 12 homers and 55 RBI over 356 plate appearances at the Triple-A level this season. The 22-year-old should see some at-bats down the stretch as the Marlins audition him at third base for 2012, though he doesn't figure to have any immediate value beyond NL-only leagues. Sanabia, who missed the majority of the season with an elbow injury, posted a 7.89 ERA and 13/3 K/BB ratio over four starts with the Zephyrs.

Fri Sep 2 201112:52Matt Dominguez likely to get the call
Matt Dominguez is a "likely candidate" to be recalled by the Marlins once Triple-A New Orleans' season ends on Monday.
Considered a defensive specialist by most, Dominguez has been swinging a reasonably hot bat since the Triple-A All-Star break, hitting .278/.317/.489 in 34 games. He'll be worth a flier in NL-only leagues upon his recall.

Tue Aug 16 201121:30Matt Dominguez progressing
Matt Dominguez (hamstring) has been riding an exercise bike and doing some light jogging.
Dominguez was placed on the minor league disabled list last Friday with a Grade 1 right hamstring strain. "He's already riding the bike, doing some light jogging, and already swinging the bat," said Jim Fleming, the Marlins' vice president of player development and scouting. "It doesn't appear very serious. He's feeling a lot better. We're hoping within a week and 10 days, he should be playing."

Thu Aug 11 201109:03Dominguez exits game with leg injury
Marlins third base prospect Matt Dominguez left Wednesday's game with Triple-A New Orleans due to an apparent upper leg injury.
The severity of the injury isn't yet known. Dominguez has been hot recently, batting .571 (12-for-21) with two homers and nine RBI over his last five games. The 21-year-old third baseman is batting .260/.317/.439 with 11 homers and 53 RBI over 77 games with Triple-A New Orleans this season. Assuming the injury isn't serious, he should join the Marlins when rosters expand in September.

Sat Apr 2 201117:44Dominguez to miss only 4-6 weeks
Marlins owner Jeff Loria said most recent tests suggests that Marlins prospect Matt Dominguez will miss only 4-6 weeks.
The original diagnosis had Dominguez missing 6-8 weeks when Dominguez fractured his elbow after being hit by a pitch. So it's a good sign for the Marlins. However he may not return to the big leagues until June anyway, due to his poor showing in spring training.

Sat Apr 2 201110:27Matt Dominguez expected to miss two months
Marlins third base prospect Matt Dominguez is expected to miss two months due to the fractured left elbow he suffered Friday when he was hit by a pitch in a minor league game.
Viewed at the beginning of spring training as the favorite to win the third base job, the 21-year-old was sent to the minors after hitting .190. The Marlins probably weren't going to bring him up before June, anyway, but this injury could push back his ETA in the big leagues.

Fri Apr 1 201118:53Marlins' Dominguez suffers fractured elbow
Marlins prospect third baseman Matt Dominguez suffered a fractured left elbow when he was hit by a pitch in a minor league game Friday.
Tough break for the kid. Marlins president Larry Beinfest said a preliminary X-ray revealed a fracture at the tip of the elbow and that the 21-year-old was being taken to a doctor for further examination. Though Dominguez struggled with the bat during spring training, he's still the best position prospect in the Marlins' system at the moment.

Thu Mar 24 201109:17Marlins send Dominguez to minor league camp
Marlins optioned 3B Matt Dominguez to minor league camp.
The Marlins gave the 21-year-old a shot at the starting third base job, but he batted just .190 over 42 at-bats, only reinforcing the belief that he's not ready to hit major league pitching. Donnie Murphy, Wes Helms, Emilio Bonifacio and Greg Dobbs are the in-house options for third base, though the Marlins are also looking outside the organization. We have a feeling this could be a revolving door situation. In addition to Dominguez, the Marlins also reassigned INFs Joe Thurston, Ruben Gotay, OF Josh Kroeger and RHP Frank Mata to minor league camp.
