Wed Mar 6 201316:57Oscar Taveras homers, doubles
Oscar Taveras had a two-run homer and a double in three at-bats Wednesday in the Cardinals' 7-2 defeat of the Marlins.
Making a very strong impression, Taveras has two homers, two doubles and eight RBI in 27 at-bats for the Cardinals this spring. It's hard to see how the Cardinals would fit him on the roster if the rest of their outfielders are healthy, but he's demonstrating that he could be a major force once he gets his chance.

Thu Feb 28 201317:06Oscar Taveras hits grand slam in Cards' win
Oscar Taveras hit a grand slam off Jacob Turner in the Cardinals' 8-2 defeat of the Marlins on Thursday.
It was Taveras' lone hit in four at-bats, but we won't hold it against him. The push to put Taveras on the Cardinals' Opening Day roster has already started. However, we don't see how it would work out unless someone ahead of him gets hurt. Sure, Carlos Beltran could use a day off every week, but Matt Holliday doesn't, and since both Jon Jay and Taveras are left-handed hitters, there's no easy way for them to share center.

Tue Feb 26 201317:42Oscar Taveras collects three hits for Cards
Oscar Taveras went 3-for-5 wth two runs scored in the Cardinals' 15-4 rout of the Red Sox on Tuesday.
It's hard to imagine the Cardinals carrying the 20-year-old Taveras as a bench player, but if Carlos Beltran or another outfielder gets hurt, he could make a big impact in fantasy leagues this year. While Bryce Harper has to be accounted for, Taveras could be considered the second most talented hitter to enter the NL in several years.

Fri Feb 15 201320:10Taveras could play for Team Canada in WBC
Cardinals top prospect Oscar Tavares is considering playing for Team Canada in the upcoming World Baseball Classic.
Taveras, who was born in the Dominican Republic, holds dual citizenship from time he spent as a child growing up in Montreal. The Cardinals would likely prefer to have him in big league camp to work with the major league coaching staff, and spend time around the veteran outfielders though, so if Taveras is keen on trying to make the club out of spring training he'd be wise to pass on the WBC opportunity.

Sat Jan 5 201321:03Taveras pulled from action in DWL playoffs
Cardinals prospect Oscar Taveras, who had been playing for Aguilas Cibaenas in the Dominican Winter League playoffs, was "pulled from action" on Friday.
No reason has been given for the sudden departure, though its common for big leaguers and prospects to quit winter league play right after the holidays. The 20-year-old outfielder hit a blistering .321/.380/.572 with 23 homers and 94 RBI for the Cardinals' Double-A affiliate in 2012. He's on the fast track to the majors, and could even open the 2013 campaign in St. Louis.

Mon Dec 17 201219:24Taveras completes strong DWL performance
Oscar Taveras wound up batting .319/.385/.500 over 37 games in the Dominican Winter League.
The Cardinals' prized outfield prospect homered four times and hit 12 doubles. Taveras is developing quickly into one of the top young sluggers in the game and should carry immediate fantasy value once he arrives in the major leagues. There's a slight chance the 20-year-old could open the 2013 season in St. Louis.
