Sun Mar 20 2011 | 10:05 | Marc Rzepczynski moved to bullpen |
Marc Rzepczynski has been ruled out of the competition for a rotation spot and will instead try to break camp as a member of the bullpen. |
If he's not able to win a relief job, he'll likely be used as a starter at Triple-A. Kyle Drabek and Jesse Litsch have long been considered the favorites for the final two spots in the rotation, and this decision cements that fact. |

Fri Mar 18 2011 | 15:59 | Rzepczynski struggles in relief |
Marc Rzepczynski allowed five runs -- two earned -- in 2 2/3 innings out of the pen Friday against the Yankees. |
Rzepczynski appears to be falling out of the mix for a rotation spot. Jesse Litsch looks like the favorite right now. If the nod does go to Litsch, it will be interesting to see whether the Jays stick Rzepczynski in the pen or send him back to Triple-A to start as they did for much of last year. |

Tue Mar 8 2011 | 16:14 | Rzepczynski hurls three shutout innings |
Marc Rzepczynski held the Rays scoreless on no hits Tuesday. |
It wasn't a completely smooth outing, as the southpaw walked a pair and hit a batter while striking out one. Still, it's a definite improvement over his previous effort when he gave up three runs over 2/3 of an inning against the Braves. Rzepczynski is trying to win a spot at the back of the Blue Jays rotation. |

Fri Mar 4 2011 | 17:01 | Rzepczynski struggles against Braves on Fri. |
Marc Rzepczynski was knocked around for three runs on five hits over two-thirds of an inning Friday against a Braves' split-squad team. |
That's no good. Rzepczynski allowed five singles and a walk before being taken out of the game. Meanwhile, Jesse Litsch -- his primary competition for the final spot in the starting rotation -- struck out four over three scoreless innings to begin the game. It's still very early, but Rzepczynski lost some ground today. |

Sun Feb 27 2011 | 15:41 | Jays' Rzepczynski perfect for two |
Marc Rzepczynski was perfect for two innings Sunday in his start versus the Tigers. |
Jesse Litsch followed him and allowed just a single in his two innings. Those two are the chief contenders for the fifth spot in Toronto's rotation. Rzepczynski is the superior fantasy sleeper, though it'd be a lot easier for us to type out Litsch all season long. |
Sun Oct 3 2010 | 16:23 | Rzepczynski beats Twins for fourth win |
Marc Rzepczynski held the Twins to just an unearned run in seven innings to record a win on Sunday. |
He gave up four hits and two walks while striking out six. Rzepczynski finishes the year with a 4.90 ERA and ugly 1.60 WHIP in 14 appearances, 12 of which were starts. Rzepczynski now has 117 strikeouts in 125 career innings thanks in large part to a quality slider. He'll need to improve his command to be of consideration in fantasy leagues, but he's not without potential next year. |
Mon Sep 27 2010 | 22:22 | Rzepczynski fans nine over five frames |
Marc Rzepczynski gave up two runs and struck out nine over five innings in Monday's 7-5 win over the Yankees. |
The lefty got his pitch count up to 91 with four hits and three walks, but overall it was a pretty nice showing against a powerful lineup. Rzepczynski has allowed three runs or fewer in each of his last four starts but still has an unsightly 5.56 ERA and 1.69 WHIP on the year, though he does have an 8.1 K/9 rate. He's slated to face the Twins in his last outing. |
Mon Sep 13 2010 | 23:13 | Rzepczynski gives up two runs over five |
Marc Rzepczynski surrendered two runs over five innings in Monday's loss to the Orioles. |
The portsider gave up six hits, walked two and struck out three. He was inefficient, needing 92 pitches to make it through five frames. This was actually one of Rzepczynski's better outings of late, as he's really been struggling, with a 8.18 ERA over his previous five starts. He'll get the Red Sox this weekend. |
Tue Aug 24 2010 | 22:18 | Rzepczynski ripped in loss to Yankees |
Marc Rzepczynski was bombed for six runs in three innings Tuesday against the Yankees. |
He allowed three homers, eight hits and two walks in the ugly outing while striking out just one. Rzepczynski's posted a 6.31 ERA for the Blue Jays this year and can't be trusted in any fantasy format. |
Wed Aug 18 2010 | 18:44 | Jays' Rzepczynski removed in fifth |
Marc Rzepczynski lasted just 4 1/3 innings and gave up three runs Wednesday versus the A's. |
This after he pitched seven scoreless innings against the Angels five days ago. Rzepczynski is strictly a spot starter in AL-only leagues, and since he'll get the Yankees next, he should be sat down. |
Sat Aug 14 2010 | 02:29 | Rzepczynski goes seven scoreless |
Marc Rzepczynski combined with two relievers on a three-hitter Friday as the Jays beat the Angels 3-0. |
Rzepczynski allowed two hits, walked none and struck out six in his seven innings. This could have potentially been a spot start for him, but after such a strong effort, he seems certain to remain in the rotation. What's not so clear is whether he'll make his next start Wednesday against the A's or Friday in Boston. It'll make all the difference in whether he's worth using in AL-only leagues. |
Thu Aug 12 2010 | 16:21 | Jays recall Rzepczynski for Friday's start |
Blue Jays recalled LHP Marc Rzepczynski from Triple-A Las Vegas. |
Rzepczynski will start against the Angels on Friday, allowing Brett Cecil to continue nursing his knee injury and giving Brandon Morrow some extra rest following his 137-pitch one-hitter. The 24-year-old Rzepczynski has thrown up a 7.15 ERA in four total big league appearances this season. |
Tue Aug 10 2010 | 17:08 | Rzepczynski to start Friday |
Marc Rzepczynski will be called up from Triple-A Las Vegas to start against the Angels on Friday. |
Brett Cecil was pushed back two days due to a minor knee injury and Brandon Morrow is getting some extra rest after his 137-pitch one-hitter on Sunday, so Rzepczynski get the call. The 24-year-old southpaw has a 7.15 ERA over two starts and two relief appearances with the Jays this season and has struggled with the 51s, posting a 6.04 ERA over 12 starts. |
Thu Jul 22 2010 | 10:53 | Jays send Rzepczynski to minors |
Blue Jays optioned LHP Marc Rzepczynski to Triple-A Las Vegas. |
Rzepczynski failed to impress over two starts and two relief appearances, allowing nine runs over 11 1/3 innings. He gave up five runs over 4 2/3 innings in a loss to the Royals on Sunday. The young left-hander will probably be back. |
Wed Jul 21 2010 | 17:01 | Jays' Rzepczynski loses to Royals |
Back in the rotation after a couple of relief appearances, Marc Rzepczynski surrendered five runs in 4 2/3 innings Wednesday in a loss to the Royals. |
Rzepczynski doesn't have much of a hold on a rotation spot at the moment, and it'd be no surprise if he soon found himself in the pen on a more permanent basis. He's not worth using in AL-only leagues at the moment. |
Fri Jul 2 2010 | 17:46 | Jays recall LHP Rzepczynski |
Blue Jays recalled LHP Mark Rzepczynski from Triple-A Las Vegas. |
Rzepczynski, who missed the first six weeks with a fractured finger on his pitching hand, is being called up despite posting a 6.66 ERA in nine starts for Las Vegas. After exhausing the bullpen today, the Jays wanted someone capable of going multiple innings on Saturday. |
Wed May 19 2010 | 14:47 | Jays activate, send LHP Rzepczynski to minors |
Blue Jays activated LHP Marc Rzepczynski from the 15-day DL and optioned him to Triple-A Vegas. |
Rzepczynski was touched up for nine runs over just 2 1/3 innings in his first minor league rehab start with Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday, so the Blue Jays will hope to see better results before they bring him back. The 24-year-old left-hander is currently working his way back from a fractured middle finger on his throwing hand. |
Tue May 18 2010 | 17:26 | Rzepczynski knocked around in rehab start |
Marc Rzepczynski was torched for nine runs over just 2 1/3 innings in his first minor league rehab start with Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday. |
Ouch. Rzepczynski gave up 11 hits -- including two home runs -- while walking one and striking out one. Dana Eveland doesn't appear long for the starting rotation, but Rzepczynski is in danger of falling behind Jesse Litsch and Brian Tallet in the organizational pecking order if he doesn't begin to produce better results going forward. Rzepczynski started the year on the disabled list due to a fractured middle finger. |

Rzepczynski collected four strikeouts in the 59-pitch effort and is likely to head out on a minor league rehab assignment soon. The lefty has been out all season due to a once-fractured middle finger and might require several minor league outings. Look for him in late May or early June. |
