Tue Aug 14 201217:44Mariners place 1B Carp (hip) on disabled list
Mariners placed 1B Mike Carp on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 13, with a sore left hip.
Carp felt a pop while stretching for a throw Sunday and an MRI on Monday indicated that a stint on the disabled list was likely. However, the exact severity of the injury isn't yet known. Justin Smoak was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma in a corresponding roster move and will handle starting first base duties for now.

Mariners skipper Eric Wedge said Monday that Mike Carp (hip) is likely headed to the disabled list.
Carp has played in only 49 games this season because of injuries. He felt a pop in his hip while stretching for a throw at first base Sunday and was held out of the M's starting lineup Monday. Look for roster moves to be made a couple hours before first pitch on Tuesday.

Sat Aug 4 201215:50Carp has two hits in win over Bombers
Mike Carp went 2-for-4 with an RBI single and a double in a win over the Yankees on Saturday.
Carp knocked in John Jaso in the top of the second inning for the lone run of the ballgame. The 26-year-old has swung the bat well since taking over for Justin Smoak at first base, batting .419 (13-for-31) with one home run, three doubles and six RBI over his last nine games. He should continue to be an asset in AL-only leagues and may even be worth a flier in some deeper mixed leagues.

Sun Jul 29 201219:30Mike Carp has nice day in win
Mike Carp went 3-for-4 with an RBI, run scored and pair of doubles in Sunday's win over the Royals.
The extra-base hits were Carp's second and third in six games since coming off the disabled list on July 24. He's sporting a five-game RBI streak. Hitting just .202/.306/.394, Carp can hardly be expected to be a fantasy dynamo down the stretch, but he's worth a flier in AL-only leagues.

Tue Jul 24 201208:37Carp (shoulder) to be activated off DL
Mike Carp (shoulder) will be activated from the disabled list before Tuesday's game.
He'll take the roster spot of Justin Smoak, who was demoted to Triple-A Tacoma following Monday's game. Carp batted .220 (13-for-59) with one home run, eight RBI and a .670 OPS over 15 rehab games at Triple. He has also been playing first base, so he figures to take over the position now that Smoak is in the minors.

Thu Jul 12 201215:40Mike Carp goes 2-for-4 in rehab game
Mike Carp (shoulder) went 2-for-4 with a home run Wednesday in a rehab game with Single-A High Desert.
Carp should be cleared to return to the Mariners within the next week, but he'll be limited to first base and DH duties due to lingering concerns about the strength of his throwing shoulder. The 26-year-old is doubtful to hold much fantasy relevance.

Tue Jul 3 201219:52Mike Carp to return as 1B/DH
When Mike Carp (shoulder) returns from the disabled list, it will be as a first baseman and designated hitter.
The Mariners don't want Carp playing the outfield anymore this season with his nagging shoulder woes. It likely means less playing time for the 26-year-old. He'll begin a rehab assignment soon.

Sun May 6 201220:28Mike Carp hits first homer of the season
Mike Carp hit his first home run of the season in Sunday's win over the Twins.
Carp spent the entire month of April on the disabled list due to a shoulder injury he sustained during the season-opening series in Japan. But he's starting to see regular at-bats in the outfield and as the designated hitter and now has three RBI in his last four games. Remmeber that Carp posted 12 homers and 46 RBI in just 290 at-bats for the Mariners last season.

Tue May 1 201216:29Mariners activate Mike Carp, put Olivo on DL
Mariners activated OF Mike Carp from the 15-day disabled list.
Carp injured his shoulder while tying to make a catch during the Mariners' season-opening series against the A's in Japan and missed all of April. But he's back now and should see regular playing time going forward -- whether in the outfield or at DH. Miguel Olvio (groin) was placed on the 15-day disabled list in a corresponding move.

Tue May 1 201211:19Mike Carp (shoulder) to be activated from DL
Mike Carp (shoulder) is expected to take the place of the injured Miguel Olivo (groin) on the active roster.
That was the assumption after Olivo left Monday's game and Carp confirmed via his Twitter account Tuesday morning that he will be joining up with the big club. The 25-year-old has struggled during his rehab stint with Triple-A Tacoma, batting just .137 (7-for-51) with zero homers and a 14/2 K/BB ratio, but he'll likely slide into the DH spot while Jesus Montero and John Jaso share playing time behind the plate.
