Tue Jun 24 2014 | 17:17 | Ronald Belisario to remain White Sox closer |
White Sox manager Robin Ventrua said Tuesday that Ronald Belisario will remain the team's closer. |
Belisario blew another save Monday in Baltimore when he allowed a three-run walkoff homer to Orioles slugger Chris Davis, but the White Sox don't exactly have a better option at the moment. Zach Putnam and Javy Guerra may be worthwhile speculative fantasy stashes in case Belisario, who has a 5.50 ERA in 36 total innings this season, can't suddenly right the ship. |

Mon Jun 23 2014 | 22:41 | Ronald Belisario blows fourth save |
Ronald Belisario took his fourth blown save and fourth loss after giving up a three-run homer to the Orioles' Chris Davis in the ninth inning Monday. |
Matt Lindstrom made his last appearance on May 19, making Belisario the White Sox's closer. Since he took over the role the following day, he's given up 11 earned runs and 18 hits in 11 2/3 innings, taking his overall ERA up to 5.20. Manager Robin Ventura has been steadfast in his corner -- mostly because Ventura made that choice in the first place -- but after this one, it's going to be hard for Belisario to keep his job. Even when he's converted his chances, he's been shaky; he's allowed runs in four of his seven saves. Zach Putnam is probably next in line for the White Sox, though he's not a very good bet either. Javy Guerra has the most closing experience of the righties in the pen and could be a sleeper. |

Wed Jun 18 2014 | 17:41 | Belisario earns seventh save of the season |
Ronald Belisario earned his seventh save of the season Wednesday as the White Sox beat the Giants. |
Belisario was called on in the eighth inning and had to record to the final five outs of the game. He gave up a run in the top of the ninth but was able to protect Chicago's lead. The 31-year-old righty owns an ugly 4.79 ERA on the season but is a must-have in all standard fantasy leagues while he's plugged in as the White Sox closer. |

Tue Jun 10 2014 | 01:29 | Ronald Belisario gives up run, earns save |
Ronald Belisario picked up a save despite giving up a run in the ninth Monday aganst the Tigers. |
Fortunately, Belisario didn't have to face the meat of the order, and he was able to strand the tying run at second after giving up consecutive doubles to lead off the inning. Belisario just hasn't been effective at all since taking over as closer, but Robin Ventura has no interest in making a switch. Expect more of the same. |

Thu Jun 5 2014 | 01:22 | Belisario earns another save vs. former team |
Ronald Belisario earned his fifth save of the season by tossing a scoreless ninth inning in Wednesday's win over the Dodgers. |
Belisario earned a save Tuesday by tossing a 1-2-3 ninth courtesy of a trio of ground outs and only seven pitches. He got two ground outs and struck out a batter this evening, requiring 12 pitches in all. Belisario desperately needed this pair of impressive showings against his former employer. Entering play on Tuesday, he'd blown two saves in six opportunities and posted a 9.00 ERA as closer. Overall, Belisario owns an ugly 4.88 ERA, but a respectable 1.18 WHIP, over 32 innings. |

Wed May 28 2014 | 23:17 | Ronald Belisario blows third save |
Ronald Belisario blew another save on Wednesday, but he was bailed out by Moises Sierra and got the win when the White Sox scored in the bottom of the ninth. |
Belisario has pitched effectively in just one of five appearances since assuming the closer's role, that coming last night when he pitched in front of fifty or so fans after a long rain delay. The White Sox will be better off once they move him back to eighth-inning duties, but since they ended up winning tonight, it probably won't happen right away. |

Sun May 25 2014 | 09:37 | Ronald Belisario to remain closer for now |
White Sox manager Robin Ventura indicated after Saturday's game that Ronald Belisario will remain the team's closer for now. |
Belisario allowed three runs to blow the save Saturday. He's allowed at least one run in all three save chances since taking over for Matt Lindstrom (ankle), though he survived to convert his first two opportunities. ``I think we're at a point where we've got other guys that have the ability to do it,'' Ventura said. ``It's not the time to do that right now. [Belisario] was throwing strikes. It's not like he was walking guys.'' While it appears Belisario is still the guy for now, his leash is certainly very short. Daniel Webb and possibly Jake Petricka could eventually get a look in the ninth inning. |

Sat May 24 2014 | 17:16 | Belisario blows save against Yankees |
Ronald Belisario blew a save Saturday against the Yankees. |
Belisario entered the top of the ninth inning with a 3-0 lead, but he coughed it up by allowing a ground rule double to Alfonso Soriano and RBI singles to Yangervis Solarte and Brian McCann. Since taking over the closer role, Belisario has allowed six runs on eight hits and two walks over three innings. It might not be long before someone else gets a chance. Daniel Webb and Jake Petricka are among the possibilities. |

Thu May 22 2014 | 23:12 | Belisario narrowly escapes with 2nd save |
Ronald Belisario nearly blew a three-run lead but escaped with his second save of the season in Thursday's win over the Yankees. |
Belisario was shaky in his second save opportunity, allowing two base runners on a walk on a single and both came around to score on Mark Teixeira's two-out, two-run single. Belisario was able to strike out Alfonso Soriano to escape with his second save. The tightrope walk will certainly stick in manager Robin Ventura's memory as he decides who to use in the ninth inning going forward. |

Wed May 21 2014 | 01:01 | Belisario earns first save in win over Royals |
Ronald Belisario earned his first save of the season in Tuesday's win over the Royals. |
White Sox manager Robin Ventura had been noncommittal in naming an interim closer after the injury to Matt Lindstrom, and at least for one day the job belonged to Belisario. It wasn't a great showing for the 31-year-old, as he allowed a run on two hits before escaping with the save. Still, the run was his first allowed in his last 17 1/3 innings of work, and if Ventura has shown anything it's that he cares only about the end result. There's no guarantee Belisario gets the next save chance, but he's as good a bet as any in the White Sox bullpen at this point. |

Tue May 20 2014 | 18:21 | White Sox not naming set closer |
White Sox manager Robin Ventura on Tuesday refused to name a set closer while Matt Lindstrom (ankle) was on the disabled list. |
Ventura mentioned that he has a few options among guys that have pitched well lately. Ronald Belisario would certainly qualify, as he hasn't allowed an earned run in his last 17 1/3 innings and boasts 13/1 K/BB ratio over that time. Daniel Webb and Jacob Petricka, who earned the save Monday after Lindstrom exited, could also be in the mix. |

Ronald Belisario reported to White Sox camp on Saturday. |
The 31-year-old hurler was delayed for several weeks due to visa issues. He could have been a darkhorse candidate for saves in the White Sox bullpen had he arrived to camp on time, but is still expected to work in a setup capacity once he gets up to speed. |

Fri Mar 7 2014 | 12:14 | Ronald Belisario expected in camp soon |
Ronald Belisario is expected to report to White Sox' camp soon after getting his visa issue resolved. |
It's obviously less than ideal that Belisario has already missed a few weeks of action, but he should have enough time to prepare for Opening Day. The former Dodgers reliever is set to serve as a setup man for the White Sox. |

Tue Mar 4 2014 | 19:44 | Ronald Belisario still away with visa issue |
Ronald Belisario has yet to report to White Sox' camp due to visa issues. |
Manager Robin Ventura had no update on Belisario's situation except to say that "it's gone dark." The skipper said over a week ago that the reliever's absence was "getting closer" to becoming an issue, so it's safe to assume it's officially a problem. Belisario could still conceivably have time to get ready for Opening Day if he reports shortly, but it doesn't appear his situation will be resolved soon. |

White Sox manager Robin Ventura said Sunday that Ronald Belisario's absence due to visa problems is "getting closer" to becoming an issue. |
"We're still on a watch," Ventura said. "It's getting closer (to being an issue). These guys have all been out here doing stuff and it's getting close to it. I don't know if I can speed up the visa issue so you have to wait and see." Assuming he gets to camp at some point, Belisario is slated to open the year as a setup man for the White Sox. |

The deal was reported a couple weeks ago and is now official after Belisario passed a physical. The 30-year-old has put up a 3.24 ERA over the last two seasons while striking out 118 across 139 frames. It's possible that he'll be in the mix for saves with the White Sox' closer gig up in the air. |
