Thu Jun 3 201014:55No change on Galarraga's almost perfect game
Commissioner Bug Selig plans to examine major league baseball's umpiring system and possible use of expanded instant replay, but will not correct Jim Joyce's blown call at first base which prevented Armando Galarraga from completing a perfect game.
His statement read, in part: "As Jim Joyce said in his postgame comments, there is no dispute that last night's game should have ended differently. While the human element has always been an integral part of baseball, it is vital that mistakes on the field be addressed. Given last night's call and other recent events, I will examine our umpiring system, the expanded use of instant replay and all other related features. Before I announce any decisions, I will consult with all appropriate parties, including our two unions and the Special Committee for On-Field Matters, which consists of field managers, general managers, club owners and presidents." While he says a lot here, we should focus on what he didn't say. That Armando Galarraga's almost perfect game will stay exactly that.

Thu Jun 3 201010:56Selig to release statement on Galarraga game
Jon Heyman of SI.com reports that Commissioner Bud Selig will have a statement on Thursday regarding Armando Galarraga's almost perfect game.
Baseball officials have reportedly convened in order to review Wednesday's blown call by umpire Jim Joyce, which prevented the 21st perfect game in major league history. While Selig has the power to reverse the call, we're not counting on him to do that. At the very least, it should open the door to expanded instant replay so the same mistake isn't made again.

Wed Jun 2 201020:56Armando Galarraga just misses out on perfecto
Armando Galarraga missed out on a perfect game against the Indians on Wednesday due to a blown call by first base umpire Jim Joyce with two outs in the ninth inning.
Galarraga was perfect through 8 2/3 inning and coaxed a grounder to first base out of nine-spot hitter Jason Donald. The throw from Miguel Cabrera was on time, but Joyce just missed the call and ruled Donald safe. The perfecto appeared meant to be, as Austin Jackson had made potentially the play of the year for the first out in the ninth by reeling in an over-the-shoulder catch on the warning track. Galarraga didn't even make his 2010 Tigers debut until May 16, but he was utterly and completely dominant in his fourth start of the season. He struck out only three, but needed just 88 pitches to complete the game.
Sat May 22 201022:18Tigers' Galarraga takes loss to Dodgers
Armando Galarraga took a loss to the Dodgers after surrendering six runs -- five earned -- in 4 2/3 innings on Saturday.
Galarraga beat the Red Sox in his 2010 debut on Sunday, but the red-hot Dodgers had little trouble getting to him. He's still going to be worth playing in AL-only leagues next week with the A's up on the schedule.
Sun May 16 201023:09Galarraga wins season debut, allows only 1 ER
In his 2010 Tigers debut, Armando Galarraga allowed one run on three hits over 5 2/3 innings to beat the Red Sox on Sunday.
He struck out five and walked three. It was an impressive season debut after the Tigers elected to bump Max Scherzer from the rotation and give him another chance. While it was a good start, Galarraga will have to string together a few more impressive outings to ensure he sticks around. Detroit's problems at the back end of the rotation have certainly given him an opportunity.
Sun May 16 201000:14Tigers recall Galarraga from Triple-A Toledo
Tigers recalled RHP Armando Galarraga from Triple-A Toledo.
Galarraga is scheduled to start Sunday against the Red Sox and has an opportunity to stick around for a while if he pitches well out of the gate. Max Scherzer has been optioned to Triple-A Toledo and his rotation spot is up for grabs. Galarraga had a 2.25 ERA and a 0.67 WHIP in two starts for Toledo.
Fri May 14 201017:00Tigers' Galarraga to get start Sunday
The Tigers will call up Armando Galarraga to start Sunday's game against the Red Sox.
An extra starter is needed as a result of Tuesday's doubleheader. Casper Wells will likely be sent back down then to make room on the roster.

Mon Apr 26 201000:05Detroit to add a 13th pitcher for taxed 'pen?
The Tigers could add a 13th pitcher in the near future, according to MLive.com's Steve Kornacki.
"We've taxed our bullpen way too much," Tigers manager Jim Leyland said. The club's bullpen is gassed, having worked 33 2/3 innings in the last 10 games over 10 days. Zach Miner isn't quite ready to return, so the club would likely look to Triple-A for a fix. Farmhands Jay Sborz, Robbie Weinhardt and Enrique Gonzalez are options, as are former Tigers pitchers Armando Galarraga (2-1, 1.96 ERA with Toledo) and Alfredo Figaro (2-0, 2.87).

Wed Apr 21 201013:18Tigers' Galarraga pitching well in Triple-A
Armando Galarraga pitched seven scoreless innings Tuesday for Triple-A Toledo.
Galarraga disappointed the Tigers this spring, but he's 2-1 with a 1.96 ERA and an 18/1 K/BB ratio through three starts for Toledo. If he keeps it up, he should be the choice to step into the rotation when a replacement is needed. A couple of weeks ago, we'd have said Eddie Bonine was next in line.
