Thu Apr 29 201015:55Tigers' Willis combines on shutout of Twins
Dontrelle Willis shut out a depleted Twins lineup for six innings Thursday to earn his first victory of the season.
It was his second win against seven losses in his three years with the Tigers. Willis struck out six while facing a lineup that was missing Joe Mauer, Justin Morneau and J.J. Hardy. An easy schedule has helped him compile a 3.75 ERA through four starts and a relief appearance this year. His WHIP stands at 1.54, so he still needs to be avoided in fantasy leagues.

Sat Apr 24 201018:01Dontrelle Willis scratched due to illness
Dontrelle Willis was scratched from Saturday's start against the Rangers because of an illness.
And now we have our reason. Lefty reliever Brad Thomas is going to start the game, but probably won't last all that long. "He's sick," Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland said of Willis. "Thomas hasn't pitched in awhile."

Wed Apr 21 201009:51Willis has cracked fingernail on left hand
Dontrelle Willis has been dealing with a cracked fingernail on his throwing hand, but doesn't expect it to cost him any starts.
"It's been something that would come and go since I made it to the big leagues, but this is the worst it's ever been for me," said Willis. "But you have to grind it out and find a way to stay on the mound for your team." Willis has compiled a 4.24 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and a 9/7 K/BB ratio over his first three starts, but he still doesn't inspire much confidence.

Tue Apr 20 201000:51Tigers' Willis turns in quality start in loss
Dontrelle Willis yielded two runs in six innings Monday in a loss to the Angels.
Willis gave up four hits, walked two and struck out two in the strongest of his three starts to date. With a 4.24 ERA, he's bought himself more time in the rotation, yet still not given a whole lot of reason for optimism.
Tue Apr 13 201016:18Tigers' Willis gives up four runs to Royals
Dontrelle Willis surrendered four runs in five innings Tuesday in a no-decision against the Royals.
Willis had to pitch out of a couple of jams to last as long as he did. There's nothing encouraging to be taken from a performance in which he gave up nine hits, including two homers, and three walks to one of baseball's weaker offenses.
Thu Apr 8 201017:29Tigers' Willis gives up two runs to Royals
Dontrelle Willis yielded two runs and seven hits over six innings Thursday in a no-decision against the Royals.
Against the Royals is the important part of the description. Even though right-handed hitters have feasted on Willis these last few years, the Royals kept lefty-swingers David DeJesus, Scott Podsednik, Rick Ankiel and even Chris Getz in their lineup. With four strikeouts and two walks allowed, Willis was OK, in large part because he induced a couple of inning-ending double plays. A breeze blowing in also saved him on what normally would have been a solo homer off the bat of Billy Butler in the sixth.
