Thu Nov 10 201116:41Dontrelle Willis 'drawing lots of interest'
According to SI.com's Jon Heyman, free agent Dontrelle Willis is "drawing lots of interest."
Willis posted an ugly 5.00 ERA and 1.52 WHIP in 75 2/3 innings this season for the Reds, but if enough teams are offering he may be able to land a major league contract. Still, the left-hander's days as an effective major league pitcher are far gone.

Sun Sep 25 201117:03Dontrelle Willis picks up first win
Dontrelle Willis picked up his first win Sunday since June of last year, holding the Pirates to three runs on three hits and two walks over six innings in a 5-4 victory over the Pirates.
He struck out six and provided the winning runs himself, knocking in two with a double in the sixth inning. Willis showed no ill effects from the back injury that sidelined him recently and closed out his season on a strong note. The owner of a 5.00 ERA and 1.52 WHIP this year, Willis has probably done enough to get another minor league contract over the offseason, but it's doubtful he'll be given a roster spot.

Fri Sep 23 201121:02Willis to start Sunday against Pittsburgh
Dontrelle Willis (back) is scheduled to start on Sunday against the Pirates.
Back spasms prevented Willis from taking the mound last Sunday, but he'll be ready to go against the Pirates barring a setback. The owner of a 5.04 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 51/35 K/BB ratio in 69 2/3 innings this season, Willis has said he'd like to return to Cincinnati in 2012. If he is re-signed this offseason, it will almost certainly be without a guaranteed spot in Cincinnati's rotation.

Tue Sep 20 201120:04Dontrelle Willis could start this weekend
Dontrelle Willis (back) could start for the Reds on either Saturday or Sunday.
Willis was scratched from Sunday's outing and didn't feel well enough Monday to make a start, either, because of his back spasms. He's feeling better, though, and could get in one more before the season concludes. Another option is Travis Wood. "He says he feels better today," manager Dusty Baker said of Willis. "We're going to keep everybody else on and it'll probably be Dontrelle and Wood or Wood and Dontrelle. It depends on how [Willis] feels and if he can get a bullpen or something in between."

Sun Sep 18 201111:40Dontrelle Willis scratched with back spasms
Dontrelle Willis was scratched from Sunday's start due to back spasms.
He'll be replaced by Matt Maloney, who had been slated to take Johnny Cueto's spot in the rotation Monday. It's not clear at this point how long Willis might be out. We'll update his status when more is known.

Mon Sep 12 201123:16Willis comes unglued in loss to Cubs
Dontrelle Willis got lit up by the Cubs on Monday, allowing eight runs on nine hits and three walks in just 3 1/3 innings of a Reds loss.
After allowing at least two runs in each of his first 11 first stats this season, the wheels finally came off for Willis this evening. Had he been able to go deeper into the game, he almost certainly would have issued at least five free passes for the fourth consecutive start. He's not worth owning down the stretch.

Wed Aug 31 201122:25Willis quality, but walks five
Dontrelle Willis allowed three runs on five hits and five walks in 6 2/3 innings of Cincinnati's 3-0 loss to the Phillies on Wednesday.
Tonight was Willis' seventh quality outing in 10 starts since joining the Reds rotation on July 10, but he's now issued 10 walks in his past 13 2/3 innings of work. Hopefully it's not a sign the control problems that nearly ran him out of the league are beginning to resurface.

Tue Aug 30 201113:39Dontrelle Willis clears waivers
Dontrelle Willis has cleared waivers.
Willis has posted an underwhelming 4.10 ERA and 1.46 WHIP in nine starts this season for the Reds, but he could eat some innings for a contender down the stretch. The Reds should be willing to shop the left-hander, who becomes a free agent this winter.

Sat Aug 20 201120:09Willis takes no-decision vs. Pirates
Dontrelle Willis allowed three runs over six innings as part of a no-decision in a loss to the Pirates on Saturday.
Willis came back strong after leaving his last start with a sore forearm. The southpaw gave up eight hits while fanning five, walking three and hitting a batter. Though Willis is still winless, he now has a respectable 4.14 ERA and 33/17 K/BB ratio over his first eight starts. He is a viable option in NL-only leagues next week against the Nationals.

Mon Aug 15 201116:04Willis (forearm) should be OK for next start
Reds general manager Walt Jocketty said Monday that Dontrelle Willis (forearm) should be able to make his next start.
Willis gave up four runs on six hits over 2 2/3 innings before leaving Sunday's start against the Padres with a sore forearm. It sounds like he should be good to go this weekend against the Pirates, though we would look elsewhere in fantasy leagues.

Sun Aug 14 201116:42Willis roughed up, injures forearm
Dontrelle Willis got roughed up for four runs on six hits and two walks in just 2 2/3 innings before departing with a forearm injury in Cincinnati's loss to the Padres on Sunday afternoon.
Willis' forearm is only being described as "sore," so there's a chance he'll still make his next scheduled start, which is currently set for Saturday in Pittsburgh. His status should be updated some time in the next 24 hours.

Tue Aug 9 201122:49Reds' Willis whiffs 10 but is still winless
Dontrelle Willis struck out 10 batters over eight innings Tuesday and held the Rockies to three runs on just five hits and a walk but fell to 0-2 as the Reds dropped one.
Dontrelle also tripled in the game, pushing his average up to .400. Though he's yet to pick up a win, this was the best of what has been a pretty solid run of outings for Willis, as he boasts a 3.41 ERA and 1.27 WHIP over six outings. Unless he suffers a sudden implosion -- which is certainly possible -- he's likely earned a spot in the rotation for the rest of the season. He'll face the Padres over the weekend.

Wed Aug 3 201123:18Willis turns in quality start, homers
Dontrelle Willis held the Astros to two runs on eight hits in six innings on Wednesday, but got stuck with a no-decision in Cincinnati's 5-4 loss in Houston.
Willis also hit a solo home run in the seventh, the ninth of his career. Willis has been quality in four of his five starts since joining the Reds rotation, and appears to have finally rediscovered his form after four long years.

Sun Jul 24 201123:26Dontrelle Willis allows three runs to Braves
Dontrelle Willis gave up three runs in 6 1/3 innings Sunday in a no-decision against the Braves.
Willis was given an early 3-0 lead, but he couldn't hold it. Still, this does make two quality starts in three tries for him. He has a nice 3.71 ERA so far, and his rotation spot is starting to look secure.

Tue Jul 19 201100:51Willis has decent outing
Making his second start on Monday since being summoned from the minor leagues on July 10, Dontrelle Willis allowed two runs on five hits and just one walk in 4 2/3 innings of a 2-0 Reds loss to the Pirates.
Not a bad night, but a short one thanks to a first-inning rain delay. Willis is the now the owner of a 3.38 ERA and 1.31 WHIP through his first 10 2/3 innings, but has issued five walks. He was able to maintain his control tonight, however, and it will be interesting to see how he fares against a red-hot Braves offense this weekend.

Sun Jul 10 201112:40Dontrelle Willis recalled
Reds purchased the contract of LHP Dontrelle Willis from Triple-A Louisville.
Willis has pitched surprisingly well at Louisville this season, boasting a 2.63 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, 67/20 K/BB ratio in 75 1/3 innings, with his lack of walks being the most encouraging aspect of his statline. It's been a while since he's made an impact at the big league level, but he's certainly worth keeping an eye on. Willis will start Sunday versus the Brewers.

Fri Jul 8 201114:31Report: Dontrelle Willis to start on Sunday
ESPN's Jerry Crasnick is reporting the Reds will recall Dontrelle Willis from Triple-A Louisville to start this Sunday against the Brewers.
It's been widely believed Willis would get the first crack at replacing the recently demoted Edinson Volquez's spot in the Reds rotation, but we now have official word. The owner of a 82/119 K/BB ratio in 123 1/3 major-league innings since the start of the 2008 season, Willis has reportedly looked revitalized at Louisville, and the numbers (2.63 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, 67/20 K/BB ratio in 75 1/3 innings) would support that. He's worth a flier in NL-only leagues, but don't be surprised if Willis can't make the most of what is perhaps his last chance.

Wed Jul 6 201121:47Dontrelle Willis doesn't appear in relief
Dontrelle Willis didn't appear in relief for Triple-A Louisville Wednesday as scheduled.
Interesting. Reds GM Walt Jocketty said that Edinson Volquez will make his scheduled start Sunday, but Willis has now been scratched from a pair of starts and a relief appearance this week, adding to the intrigue regarding him possibly taking Volquez's spot. It could be nothing and Willis will pitch again for Louisville soon, but it's certainly worth tracking.

Wed Jul 6 201118:49Willis to pitch in relief at AAA on Weds.
Dontrelle Willis is scheduled to pitch in relief on Wednesday night at Triple-A Louisville.
Willis was originally supposed to start the game, but the Reds want to have him well-rested in case they need to add him to the rotation at some point this week. The left-hander has registered a 2.63 ERA and 67/20 K/BB ratio in 75 1/3 innings this year for Louisville.

Wed Jul 6 201115:42Willis scratched from start in minors
Dontrelle Willis was scratched from Wednesday's start with Triple-A Louisville.
Willis, who was scratched earlier in the week, was bumped yet again, this time in favor of Travis Wood. The reason for the change isn't clear, though it could have something to do with Bronson Arroyo or Edinson Volquez. Stay tuned.
