Sun Jul 25 201010:40Tigers interested in Mike Lowell
The Tigers have showed interest in Boston third baseman Mike Lowell.
With Magglio Ordonez and Carlos Guillen joining Brandon Inge on the disabled list, the Tigers are desperate for some hitting help. Lowell is currently on a rehab assignment but could be ready by the end of the week. He would pass through waivers, so the possibility of trading him in August exists if he's not ready before the deadline.

Mike Lowell (hip) is expected to play six of the next eight games at Triple-A Pawtucket.

Fri Jul 23 201010:28Lowell could retire after season
Mike Lowell (hip) said that he could retire after the season.
After having the opportunity to spend an extended period of time with his family before the All-Star break, the 36-year-old third baseman appears to be leaning in that direction. "I think those days in Miami I got a nice glimpse of what it would be with my family and it made me really excited for that part of my life," said Lowell. "I'm just not totally sold at this point saying, `Yes, this is what's going to happen after the last game this year,' or `No.' And the good thing I don't need to. But yeah I think it's only normal that it's a major consideration. For sure." Lowell began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Pawtucket on Thursday night and could be activated from the disabled list next week.

Fri Jul 23 201009:12Lowell (hip) begins rehab assignment
Mike Lowell (hip) was 1-for-5 as the designated hitter in his first minor league rehab game with Triple-A Pawtucket on Thursday night.
Lowell received a cortisone shot in his surgically-repaired right hip Monday and said he would likely need 5-7 games with the PawSox before being activated from the disabled list. "I'm looking at it like I'm going to be healthy and I'm going to be activated one way or the other," he said. "If I'm healthy, I feel like I should be activated. It would be ridiculous to have a cortisone shot, do a rehab assignment, feel good and not be activated. I don't think there's any point in that." He expects to return to the Red Sox late next week.

Sat Jul 17 201016:22Lowell aiming to start rehab on Thursday
Mike Lowell will get a cortisone shot in his ailing hip Monday and head to Triple-A Pawtucket for a rehab assignment on Thursday.
Lowell has been sidelined since late June with a strained right hip and took some time off recently to catch up with his family. The Red Sox are still looking to move him by the trade deadline and the Rangers are thought to have some level interest. We'll see if a move can be pulled off this year.

Wed Jul 14 201013:26Lowell to be re-evaulated by team
Red Sox manager Terry Francona said that Mike Lowell (hip) will rejoin the team sometime in the next few days in order to be re-evaluated.
Lowell was given permission to leave the team 10 days ago in order to spend time with his family. The veteran infielder has been on the disabled list since late June due to a sore right hip. It's not clear if he has progressed to the point of baseball activities.

Mon Jul 5 201021:22Lowell (hip) will not be activated this week
Mike Lowell (hip) will not be activated from the disabled list this week.
Lowell is eligible to come off the disabled list as soon as Friday, but he hasn't even progressed the point of baseball activities. He's become so much of an afterthought with the club that he was allowed to return to his Miami-area home to visit his family while the team plays the Rays in St. Petersburg. There's no timetable for his return.

Sun Jul 4 201018:30Red Sox' Lowell to get couple days off
Red Sox backup third baseman Mike Lowell will get a couple days off to deal with family matters while the Red Sox are in Tampa Bay.
Manager Terry Francona tried to downplay the move saying "There's nothing going or nothing," but the fact that his role has diminished to the point that he can take a couple days off without the manager batting an eye is representative of just how far Lowell has fallen. It will take a trade to make him relevant in any league.

Fri Jun 25 201012:24Hip, not thumb, prevented Lowell to Texas
Multiple baseball sources tell Alex Speier of WEEI.com that it was concerns about Mike Lowell's surgically-repaired hip -- and not his thumb -- that derailed a possible trade to the Rangers over the winter.
Lowell did require surgery to repair his right thumb, but that procedure was considered "fairly routine" and "a relative non-issue," according to Speier. It turns out that the medical concern of the Rangers, among other interested parties, focused on whether Lowell's hip would impair both his availability and productivity. Being placed on the disabled list with a strained right hip on Thursday will obviously do little to quell those concerns.

Thu Jun 24 201019:29Red Sox place Lowell (hip) on disabled list
Red Sox placed INF Mike Lowell on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 23, with a strained right hip.
Lowell has been taking up space on the Red Sox's roster for quite some time now and acknowledged Thursday that he felt bad about the situation. He will spend the next few weeks rehabbing a lingering hip injury while Boston GM Theo Epstein continues to look for a trade partner.
Thu Jun 24 201012:35Lowell expected to be placed on disabled list
Rob Bradford of WEEI.com reports the Red Sox are expected to place Mike Lowell on the disabled list to make room on the roster for Thursday's starter Daisuke Matsuzaka.
Matsuzaka is slated to come off the DL and start tonight against the Rockies, so the move should be coming shortly. Lowell pinch-hit Tuesday, but prior to that went nine games without playing and has been the subject of trade rumors.

Thu Jun 24 201009:16Could Lowell be moved on Thursday?
Mike Lowell didn't dismiss the possibility that he could be moved in order to make room for Thursday's starter Daisuke Matsuzaka.
"Something could happen,'' Lowell said after Wednesday's game. "I can't say yes, and I can't say no." The Red Sox have been trying their best to trade Lowell, but he's in the midst of a miserable 4-for-45 (.089) slump. It's possible the Red Sox may just finally cut bait on the seldom-used veteran.

Fri Jun 18 201021:06Red Sox willing to pay Lowell's salary
Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Red Sox are willing to pay the rest of Mike Lowell's salary if they were to receive a better player in return.
The team remains in a stalemate with the Twins and Rangers because neither are apparently willing to part with a top prospect at this time. This staring contest could last a while.

Thu Jun 17 201016:06Red Sox not close to dealing Mike Lowell
Rob Bradford of WEEI.com reports that the Red Sox aren't close to trading Mike Lowell to either the Rangers or Twins.
Bradford expands on a report by Ken Rosenthal, saying that the Red Sox are unwilling to cover a substantial portion of Lowell's contract without getting a more useful player in return. Lowell is owed roughly $7 million for the rest of this season.

Thu Jun 17 201012:25BOS in 'stalemate' with TEX, MIN over Lowell
Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Red Sox are "in a stalemate" with the Rangers and Twins regarding Mike Lowell.
At issue, according to Rosenthal, is that the Red Sox do not want to eat the roughly $7 million remaining on his contract as part of a trade. Though the Rangers and Twins could use a player of Lowell's caliber, they could do just as well to keep him in case of injury or if David Ortiz begins to struggle.

Sat Jun 12 201014:06Twins taking hard look at Lowell
Ken Rosenthal reports that the Twins' coaches are pushing hard for the team to sign Mike Lowell from the Red Sox.
Rosenthal also notes that the front office is wary of both the amount of money and Lowell's health issues, both viable concerns. There's no question that the Twins have a need that Lowell can fill, but the injuries to J.J. Hardy and Orlando Hudson are as much a reason to avoid Lowell as they are to sign him. While it would be great for the Twins to have his bat in the lineup right now, adding another injury risk might not be a sound move. Irrespective, the Sox are clearly interested in moving the out-of-favor third baseman and the Twins are an obviously landing place for him. A done deal wouldn't surprise us one bit.

Fri Jun 11 201018:24Twins, Rangers, Angels interested in Lowell
Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com hears that these could be Mike Lowell's "final days in Boston."
Why? Well, according to Rosenthal, the team is in trade talks with the Twins and Rangers. The Angels, who lost Kendry Morales for the season and have a platoon at third base, are said to be "hovering" on the situation.

Tue May 4 201000:14Lowell goes 4-for-4 as Red Sox romp
Mike Lowell went 4-for-4 with three doubles and four RBI and a walk as the Red Sox clipped the Angels 17-8 on Monday.
J.D. Drew also had four hits, and Bill Hall, Kevin Youkilis, Adrian Beltre and Dustin Pedroia all homered for Boston. Everyone in the lineup scored at least once, and only Pedroia failed to reach safely at least twice. Lowell's big game should help keep him in the lineup over David Ortiz against left-handers. He doubled his season RBI total tonight.
