Kevin Slowey will get a second opinion on his abdomen.
Slowey recently underwent an MRI which came back clean, but the Twins have referred him to a doctor to check for a possible hernia. The 26-year-old right-hander has a 4.91 ERA and 7/1 K/BB ratio over 14 2/3 innings this season. The Twins have thrown in the towel on using him out of the bullpen, but they have yet to make a roster move.

Mon May 23 201111:27Twins may be looking to trade Kevin Slowey
LaVelle E. Neal III of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports that the Twins might be looking to trade right-hander Kevin Slowey early this summer.
The Twins demoted Slowey to the bullpen at the end of spring training and are now apparently trying to find him a "change of scenery" so that he can become a starter again. Whether that's at Triple-A Rochester or with an entirely different organization remains to be seen. The right-hander has posted a 4.91 ERA and 1.36 WHIP in 14 2/3 inning of relief this season for Minnesota.

Kevin Slowey (shoulder) is scheduled to rejoin the Twins Saturday.
Slowey threw 5 2/3 scoreless innings in his latest rehab start with Single-A Fort Myers Monday. With both Francisco Liriano and Nick Blackburn looking much better in their last starts, Slowey will be used in long relief initially. "We'll put him out in the bullpen and go from there," manager Ron Gardenhire said. "He could be an option [as a starter], but we'll go from there."

Tue May 3 201118:05Slowey (shoulder) to return this weekend
Kevin Slowey (shoulder) will rejoin the Twins for this weekend's series against the Red Sox.
Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said that Slowey will return in a long relief role, but that things could change. Francisco Liriano and Nick Blackburn are both on the bubble at the moment, though he'd replace the latter in a perfect world.

Mon May 2 201123:13Slowey (shoulder) excels in rehab start
Kevin Slowey (shoulder) tossed 5 2/3 scoreless innings Monday in a minor league rehab start with High-A Fort Myers.
That's what we like to see. Slowey allowed just two hits while striking out three and walking none. There's been some buzz that he could eventually replace Francisco Liriano in the starting rotation, but we're hoping Nick Blackburn gets the boot.

Sun May 1 201109:22Kevin Slowey set to start Monday
Kevin Slowey (shoulder) is slated to make a rehab start for High-A Fort Myers Monday.
The Twins have decided to stretch Slowey out in case he needs to replace the struggling Francisco Liriano in the rotation. Manager Ron Gardenhire said he'd like Slowey to get up to 75 pitches before he's activated, which might be tough to do Monday since he pitched only one inning in his first rehab start.

Fri Apr 29 201113:07Slowey could eventually replace Liriano
Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said that Kevin Slowey (shoulder) wasn't immediately activated because he will be stretched out to 75 pitches in case he has to replace Francisco Liriano in the rotation.
We're not surprised Gardenhire is thinking this, but it's a little surprising that he came out and said it. Perhaps he just wants to light a fire under Liriano, who has posted a 9.13 ERA through his first four starts. Slowey appears to be totally recovered from his shoulder ailment, and he's slated to throw 45 pitches in his next rehab outing. He'll need at least one more after that to get up to 75.

Kevin Slowey (shoulder) is expected to throw 45 pitches in a minor league rehab start Wednesday with Single-A Fort Myers.
If the Twins want him in a short relief role, he could be back as soon as Thursday. However, if they see him as a starting pitcher or long reliever, he will likely need more time in the minors.

Sun Apr 24 201109:18Kevin Slowey makes first rehab appearance
Kevin Slowey (shoulder) allowed one run on one hit and one walk in his one-inning rehab appearance for Single-A Fort Myers Saturday.
Slowey is next slated to throw 45-50 pitches Wednesday for Fort Myers. Though a timetable hasn't been set, Slowey probably won't need too many more rehab outings since he's coming back as a reliever. That's assuming, of course, he doesn't suffer any setbacks.

Sat Apr 23 201112:21Kevin Slowey to make rehab appearance Sat.
Kevin Slowey (shoulder) will throw two innings in a rehab appearance for Single-A Fort Myers Saturday.
It's the first big step for the right-hander. He'll likely need at least a couple more appearances before being ready to rejoin the Twins bullpen. A return in early May seems possible.

Sat Apr 23 201109:10Kevin Slowey's throwing schedule adjusted
Kevin Slowey (shoulder) has had his throwing schedule adjusted, leaving Twins manager Ron Gardenhire unsure about the right-hander's timetable.
It's not clear what changes were made. Slowey has been at the team's spring training complex in Florida rehabbing. At this point, we can only consider him out indefinitely. We'll provide more updates on his status when more is known.

Sat Apr 9 201112:09Kevin Slowey placed on DL
Twins placed RHP Kevin Slowey on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 5, with a sore right biceps.
A recent MRI didn't reveal anything wrong structurally with the right-hander, but he did have some tendinitis. He'll be eligible to return on April 20 and probably will be ready at that time. Alex Burnett has been recalled to take Slowey's spot in the bullpen.

The Twins are expected to play Kevin Slowey (biceps) on the disabled list.
An MRI on Slowey's sore right bicep showed only tendinitis, but he still feels it and the Twins want to play it safe. The move can be made retroactively since he hasn't pitched since Monday. Alex Burnett will be recalled from Triple-A Rochester.

Wed Mar 23 201115:31Twins make Slowey available for reliever
Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that the Twins have made Kevin Slowey available in a trade for a late-inning reliever.
The Twins are looking for some reinforcements in their bullpen after losing Jesse Crain, Matt Guerrier, Jon Rauch and Brian Fuentes to free agency over the winter. Morosi writes that the Brewers and Mariners are two teams looking for starting pitching, but that neither team appears to meet the Twins' needs. Slowey, 26, is owed $2.7 million this season. Since Nick Blackburn was promised a rotation spot, Slowey is expected to pitch out of the bullpen.

Tue Mar 22 201111:56Slowey to pitch out of bullpen this season
Kevin Slowey will pitch out of the bullpen this year.
Unless, of course, the Twins can trade him to a team that needs a starting pitcher. Slowey has performed well this spring but got beat out for the final spot in the Twins' rotation by Scott Baker. He'll serve as a long reliever if he remains in Minnesota.
