Yankees signed C Bobby Wilson to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Wilson, a .208/.272/.321 career hitter, was non-tendered by Toronto at the end of November. The 29-year-old seems doubtful to crack New York's Opening Day roster.

Jeff Mathis has been a colossal mess offensively, so Wilson is getting the occasional start when Mike Napoli plays first base. It's probably time for the Angels to start using him over Mathis regularly. The 27-year-old isn't anything special with the bat himself, but he does have some pop and he's a perfectly solid defensive catcher. He might be worth a look in AL-only leagues.
