Tue May 28 201309:04Tommy Hanson could start Friday vs. Astros
Tommy Hanson could start Friday against the Astros.
Hanson hasn't pitched since May 4, but he threw 75 pitches in a five-inning simulated game on Saturday. There was some talk over him returning Thursday against the Dodgers, but Jason Vargas will make the start on extra rest. Hanson could be pushed back to Saturday if the Angels opt to boot Joe Blanton from the rotation. Either way, he'll be back this weekend. Hanson has been away from the team for nearly a month following the death of his step-brother.

Tommy Hanson could start Thursday night's game against the Dodgers.

Fri May 24 201319:07Hanson to throw 75 pitches in extended spring
Tommy Hanson is scheduled to throw 75 pitches Saturday in an extended spring training game.
Hanson has been away from the team since early May due to a death in the family. Since he's had such a long layoff, the assumption is that he'll make at least one more extended spring training start before rejoining the Angels. That means he won't be back until June 4 at the earliest. Hanson is 2-1 with a 3.86 ERA and 17/9 K/BB ratio through his first 28 innings with the Angels.

Hanson has been away from the team since early May due to the death of his step-brother, and he's now in extended spring training trying to regain his stamina. It sounds like Halos fans will have to deal with Joe Blanton for a while longer.

Tommy Hanson will miss his scheduled start Friday following the death of his step-brother.
No word yet on who will replace him. Garrett Richards threw an inning tonight, which would seem to rule him out as an option. Jerome Williams is still slated to start Saturday. Barry Enright could be a possibility.

Tommy Hanson yielded three earned runs over five innings Saturday in the Angels' loss to the Orioles.

Tommy Hanson held the Athletics to two runs over six innings but lost a win after the Angels' bullpen allowed five runs over the eighth and ninth innings.
Hanson struck out six and gave up just five hits and one walk. Though his 14/7 K/BB ratio over 23 innings leaves a lot to be desired, Hanson has now posted a quality start in three of four tries this season. He'll take a 3.91 ERA and 1.39 WHIP into a start against the Orioles this weekend.

Sat Apr 20 201301:22Hanson spins six scoreless frames in win
Tommy Hanson spun six scoreless frames Friday in an 8-1 win over the Tigers.
It was Hanson's first scoreless outing in 43 starts dating back to June 7, 2011. While it was an encouraging outing on the surface, he threw just 57 out of 102 pitches for strikes while issuing four walks and registering just two strikeouts. We'll need to see more before trusting him in shallow mixed leagues. He'll try to keep it going next Wednesday against the Rangers.

Sat Apr 13 201301:52Tommy Hanson gives up five runs to Astros
Tommy Hanson surrendered five runs in five innings Friday in a loss to the Astros.
Hanson's stuff isn't what it was, and he seems like a fourth starter at best for a major league team right now. AL-only leaguers can leave him active since he'll get a favorable start in Minnesota next week.

Sat Apr 6 201319:15Hanson goes six solid innings in win
Tommy Hanson allowed three earned runs over six innings Saturday in a win over the Angels.
Considering how bad he looked this spring and the injury concerns that he carries, Hanson did pretty well in his 2013 regular season debut. He did not walk a batter and struck out four. The 26-year-old right-hander is safe to start next week against the light-hitting Astros.

Mon Mar 25 201322:50Tommy Hanson looks good in minors game
Tommy Hanson (triceps) struck out nine while allowing three runs over six innings in a minor league game Monday.
Hanson threw 88 pitches in the outing. The right-hander had to leave his last Cactus League start with tightness in his triceps muscle, but he's back on track to start the season on time. However, with the velocity and performance issues he had last season, he makes for a risky fantasy choice.

Tommy Hanson (triceps) is scheduled to pitch in a Triple-A game on Monday night in Angels camp.
Hanson was originally scheduled to throw in a Cactus League game, but he needs to get his pitch count up so he will face some lesser competition. The right-hander was removed from his most recent Cactus League start with tightness in his triceps muscle. He's a risky fantasy selection this season despite his immense talent.
