The Brewers have not made any progress in contract talks with Jose Veras, according to MLB.com's Adam McCalvy. |
Veras requested $2.38 million and was offered $2 million when arbitration figures were exchanged last month, so the Brewers will be negotiating on a relatively small gap. The 31-year-old is arbitration-eligible for just the second time this winter. |

Tue Jan 17 2012 | 21:16 | Veras requests $2.375M from Brewers |
Jose Veras requested $2.375 million and was offered $2 million from the Brewers when arbitration figures were exchanged Tuesday. |
Veras, who was acquired from the Pirates in December for Casey McGehee, is arbitration-eligible for the second time this winter. The 31-year-old right-hander posted a solid 3.80 ERA and 79/34 K/BB ratio over 71 innings last season. It would be awkward to bring a newly-acquired player to trial, so look for them to agree around the midpoint. |

Thu Jun 16 2011 | 17:25 | Jose Veras notches first save for Pirates |
Despite giving up a run in the ninth, Jose Veras notched his first save of the year Thursday against the Astros. |
Here's one you don't hear every year: Pittsburgh's usual closer was overworked and needed a day off. Joel Hanrahan was unavailable today after working three straight days, giving Veras the chance to pick up his first save since 2007. He has a 3.49 ERA while helping to set up for Hanrahan this season. |

Thu Feb 17 2011 | 09:05 | Veras a lock to make Pirates roster |
Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said Jose Veras is already locked into an Opening Day roster spot. |
Veras appeared to have one of the better chances to earn a roster spot as a non-roster invitee after posting a 3.75 ERA in 48 innings last season with the Marlins, and now he has the comfort of knowing he doesn't have to be lights out in spring training. The right-hander will help bridge the gap from the starters to closer Joel Hanrahan. "He was a good get for us," Hurdle said. "He's got a big arm." |

The Pirates and Jose Veras have come to terms on a minor league deal, according to ESPN Deportes' Enrique Rojas. |
Veras was non-tendered by the Marlins after finishing with a 3.75 ERA in 48 innings last season. His lack of command has turned him into a journeyman, but he projects as well as anyone in the Pittsburgh pen aside from Evan Meek and Joel Hanrahan. |

Wed Jan 12 2011 | 16:36 | Veras has minor league offers from 6 teams |
Jose Veras has minor league offers from the Giants, Rockies, Twins, Marlins, Rays and Pirates, according to Enrique Rojas of ESPN Deportes. |
Veras was non-tendered by the Marlins earlier this winter despite registering a strong 3.75 ERA and 1.27 WHIP over 48 innings last season in south Florida. The Fish simply didn't want to pay him a big raise over the $550,000 that he earned in 2010, but it appears that they do indeed want him back. He would fit in as a middle reliever on any of the clubs named above. |

Marlins non-tendered RHP Jose Veras. |
Veras, 30, registered a 3.75 ERA and 1.27 WHIP over 48 innings this year, but the Marlins are always cheap with their arbitration-eligible players and didn't want to pay him a raise from the $550,000 that he earned in 2010. He should draw a good amount of interest on the open market. |
Fri Jun 25 2010 | 14:26 | Marlins call up RHP Veras |
Marlins purchased the contract of RHP Jose Veras from Triple-A New Orleans. |
Veras made the Marlins out of spring training, only to be dropped after giving up eight runs in 4 2/3 innings in April. He had a 4.60 ERA in 29 1/3 innings for New Orleans, but he had been pitching well lately, having allowed two runs in 10 innings in June. That was enough to earn him another chance. |
