Fri May 13 201118:05BoSox optimistic Kalish won't need surgery
The Red Sox are optimistic that Ryan Kalish (shoulder) will not need surgery.
Kalish was diagnosed with a partially torn labrum in his left shoulder last month, but played catch for the first time earlier this week. "As long as the progress continues without any major interruptions, it looks like he's on a path to recovery without surgery, which is what were hoping for but you never know until you do the rehab," said Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein. The 23-year-old outfielder is scheduled to report to Fort Myers, Florida in order to continue his rehab.

Ryan Kalish (shoulder) is optimistic he can avoid surgery and play again this season.
Kalish suffered a partially torn labrum after diving for a ball at Triple-A Pawtucket. He'll be reevaluated on May 6. "Yeah, I mean, I don't even really think there's any point in talking about surgery right now," Kalish said. "I'm just really optimistic. That's all I can really do. I still have a lot of time this year to come back and hopefully get some at-bats and play the game. But I just have to get healthy first."

Sat Apr 23 201121:05Kalish to get season ending surgery?
Red Sox prospect Ryan Kalish has a partially torn labrum that might require season ending surgery.
The outfielder suffered the injury diving for a flyball in Triple-A Pawtucket. Kalish had a .236/.300/.309 batting line with no home runs over his first 55 at-bats. With J.D. Drew becoming a free agent at the end of the season, the 23-year-old Kalish has a shot at cracking the Red Sox outfield in 2012. He should be fine by then.

Ryan Kalish had two hits and two steals Friday versus the Tigers.
Kalish is 10-for-11 stealing bases in 163 at-bats as a major leaguer and 5-for-5 this spring. He'll probably be a pretty nice fantasy outfielder a year or two from now, but the Red Sox intend to send him back to Triple-A to begin 2011.

Mon Dec 6 201022:09Kalish "still needs time" at Triple-A
Red Sox GM Theo Epstein said Ryan Kalish "still needs time" at Triple-A, but if the team needed him to, he could start the year in the majors.
Kalish batted .252/.305/.405 with four homers and 10 steals over 163 at-bats during his rookie season. If he does make the team, he would be used in a bench role, so the Sox want him to get everyday at-bats at Triple-A to continue his development.

The outfielder took Andy Sonnanstine deep and also singled, walked, scored three runs and stole two bases. The youngster also had a grand slam last month against the Angels. Ryan Kalish hit a grand slam off Jered Weaver in the fourth inning Tuesday night to propel the Red Sox to a 6-0 victory over the Angels.
Boston held a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning. With two outs and the bases loaded, Kalish took a 1-1 Weaver offering deep, giving Red Sox starter Clay Buchholz all the offense he'd need. Kalish is hitting .300/.333/.440 in 50 at-bats. He's owned in only 0.9% of ESPN.com standard leagues, a number that should be higher based on his speed and expected playing time with Jacoby Ellsbury (ribs) out.
Fri Aug 6 201022:35Kalish gets nice taste of Yankees rivalry
Ryan Kalish hit a two-run homer off Javier Vasquez in the sixth inning Friday night to help the Red Sox beat the Yankees, 6-3.
Welcome to the rivalry, kid. The 22-year-old Kalish started in left field, batted eighth and gave the Red Sox the insurance they needed to pull within six games of the Yanks. Kalish is hitting a cool .429 in 21 at-bats since being recalled this season. Still, we're not running to the waiver wire with Jacoby Ellsbury finally back in the lineup.
Mon Aug 2 201022:48Kalish picks up three hits Monday
Ryan Kalish went 3-for-3 at the plate Monday in the Red Sox' loss to the Indians.

Kalish is hitting .500 in the three games since his recall, and he'll continue to see playing time with Mike Cameron and Jacoby Ellsbury on the DL.
