Thu Jul 22 201017:54Moyer has badly injured elbow, done for year?
An MRI Thursday on Jamie Moyer's left arm revealed a sprain of the ulnar collataral ligament and a strain of the pronator tendon.
Moyer will be placed on the disabled list Saturday and could be done for the season, if not forever. The 47-year-old left-hander suffered the injury while pitching against the Cardinals on Tuesday. He had turned in a 9-9 record, a 4.84 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP over 19 starts this season.

Thu Jul 22 201012:07Moyer headed for MRI on elbow
Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said that Jamie Moyer will get an MRI on his left elbow.
Moyer left Tuesday's game against the Cardinals in the first inning because of a strained elbow. He is scheduled to meet with team doctors on Thursday. Amaro has no update on a starter for Saturday's game, though J.A. Happ is widely expected to re-join the team this weekend.

Tue Jul 20 201023:43Moyer (elbow) 'definitely' headed to DL
Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said that Jamie Moyer (elbow) is "definitely" headed to the disabled list.
Manuel even compared it to the injury that sidelined J.A. Happ for a couple of months, so we're not optimistic about seeing Moyer anytime soon. Appropriately enough, Happ will likely return to the Phillies' rotation this weekend, while the other spot is still up in the air.

Tue Jul 20 201021:06Moyer has left elbow strain
Jamie Moyer, who left Monday's start against the Cardinals after the first inning, was diagnosed with a left elbow strain.
There's already speculation that the Phillies will add a starter pitcher before Saturday's game, but the sense of urgency just went up a notch or two. It's immediately known how long Moyer will be sidelined.

Thu Jul 15 201023:41Moyer knocked around by Cubs Thursday
Jamie Moyer surrendered six runs over three innings in a loss to the Cubs Thursday.
The veteran gave up just five hits and didn't walk anyone, but a pair of longballs didn't help his cause. Moyer has been pounded for 13 runs over his last two outings and we would be very leery of starting him next week, as he's slated to go against the Cardinals and Rockies.
Wed Jul 7 201022:17Moyer knocked around by Braves
The Braves pounded Jamie Moyer for seven runs over 5 1/3 innings Wednesday.
He gave up seven hits and walked one while surrendering three home runs. The old timer had allowed two earned runs or fewer in six of his last seven starts before this blowup, but the run figured to come to an end soon. Moyer's ERA ballooned to 4.51 after the outing, but his WHIP still sits at an impressive 1.08.
Fri Jul 2 201022:13Moyer on his game once again
Jamie Moyer was at it again on Friday night, this time limiting the Pirates to just two runs -- one earned -- over six innings.
Moyer was a tough-luck loser because what's left of the Phillies' offense is completely inept right now. But he somehow struck out a season-high eight and was done in by a pair of infield singles. The 47-year-old is on fire right now, giving up two earned runs or less in six of his last seven outings. The blow up could come at any time, but for now it's hard to sit the old man down with the Braves on deck.
Tue Jun 22 201021:49Moyer notches win No. 266 with 8-inning gem
Jamie Moyer allowed just one run on two hits over eight innings as the Phillies defeated the Indians 2-1 on Tuesday night.
Moyer allowed a solo home run to Russell Branyan in the top of the second after the Phils had taken a 2-0 lead in the first, and that was the end of the scoring in this one. It was the second straight eight-inning victory in a row for Moyer. He's not consistent enough to be a major fantasy asset at this point, but the fact that he can still pull this off at the age of 47 is nothing short of amazing.
Wed Jun 16 201023:27Moyer keep Yanks off balance in win
Jamie Moyer kept the Yankees off balance on Wednesday night, giving up just two earned runs over eight innings to earn his seventh win.
Just when you think the 47-year-old Moyer should hang it up, he does something like this. Moyer was embarrassed for nine earned runs while getting three outs in Fenway last time out, but had the Yanks out in front of everything tonight. Despite a reasonable 4.76 ERA and 1.13 WHIP, we're not willing to gamble on when he'll be on like this.
Tue Jun 15 201017:46Phils to start Moyer on Wed, Kendrick on Thu
The Phillies have flipped Kyle Kendrick and Jaime Moyer in the starting rotation this week.
Now Moyer will start against A.J. Burnett on Wednesday and Kendrick will start against Andy Pettitte on Thursday. The move gives the Yankees a bit of a change of pace after seeing Roy Halladay on Tuesday night.

Fri Jun 11 201022:19Moyer ripped by Red Sox in Fenway
Jamie Moyer was ripped for nine earned runs while getting just three outs against the Red Sox on Friday night.
We cautioned that Moyer can't be trusted despite a string of impressive outings, and this is why. When a patient lineup stays back on his offspeed stuff, he gets absolutely bombed. The 47-year-old has earned some slack in the rotation, but the Phillies would be better off trading for a starter at the deadline.
Sat Jun 5 201021:41Moyer lasts nine innings in defeat of Padres
Jamie Moyer lasted an impressive nine innings, allowing only two earned runs, in Saturday's 6-2 defeat of the Padres.
Moyer gave the Phillies' bullpen a much-needed day off, pitching to contact while using only 98 pitches to cruise through the nine solid frames. He's 6-5 this year and still defying the laws of physics. The Philadelphia offense actually showed up, too, which was a pleasant surprise.
Tue May 25 201022:18Moyer takes loss vs. Mets
Jamie Moyer gave up four runs over five innings in a loss to the Mets on Tuesday night.
Moyer needed 104 pitches just to negotiate his way through five innings. He allowed seven hits while striking out none and matching a season-high with three walks. After three straight wins, Moyer has been handed back-to-back losses. He'll hope to rebound against the Marlins this weekend.
Wed May 19 201022:05Moyer tosses another impressive game
Jamie Moyer was impressive once again on Wednesday, yielding just four hits and two earned runs over seven innings in a loss to the Cubs.
The loss snaps a three-game winning streak for Moyer. He somehow struck out seven Cubs, which probably speaks to the state of their offense right now. Despite five wins and a 1.05 WHIP, we're not recommending an add on the 47-year-old Moyer. He can get teed off on at any time.
Sat May 15 201000:16Moyer gives up three jacks but wins
Jamie Moyer allowed three home runs to the Brewers on Friday night but still picked up his fifth win of the season.
Luckily for Moyer, all three of the jacks were solo jobs. He followed up last week's remarkable complete game shutout by yielding four earned runs over 6 1/3 innings on five hits and three walks. Although Moyer is keeping hitters off balance right now, he's due to get rocked soon.
Fri May 7 201021:40Moyer throws complete game shutout at age 47
Jamie Moyer, 47, became the oldest player to ever throw a complete game shutout on Friday night.
Knuckleballer Phil Niekro was 46 when he accomplished the feat. Moyer surrendered just two hits to the Braves, who have to be absolutely humiliated after getting blanked by a guy whose fastball tops out at 83 mph. The last time Moyer had a two-hit shutout was 1986, and don't expect it to happen again anytime soon. Everyone except the Braves has been teeing off on Moyer all season.
Thu Apr 22 201022:39Jamie Moyer solid in victory over Braves
Jamie Moyer held the Braves to two runs -- zero earned -- over six innings Thursday as the Phillies picked up an 8-3 win.
Moyer was fairly solid, fanning four batters and allowing just two walks against a stacked Braves lineup. The veteran is now 2-1 on the year with a 1.28 WHIP and is worth consideration in NL-only leagues. He will face a light-hitting Giants lineup next time he takes the mound.
Sat Apr 17 201021:33Rough first inning dooms Moyer vs. Marlins
Jamie Moyer allowed five runs in six innings in Saturday's loss to the Marlins.
Moyer had a rough first inning, allowing all five runs in that frame, but settled down to toss five scoreless innings after that. He struck out seven and walked only one, but surrendered six hits, including a two-run homer to Ronny Paulino in the ill-fated first inning. Through two starts, the veteran left-hander has posted a 7.50 ERA.
