Mon Mar 28 2011 | 17:16 | Padres acquire INF Gonzalez from Nationals |
Padres acquired INF Alberto Gonzalez from the Nationals for RHP Erik Davis and cash considerations. |
It was pretty obvious the Nationals weren't going to carry Gonzalez on their Opening Day roster, so this possibility has been discussed for a few days now. Gonzalez, who turns 28 in April, doesn't bring much to the table offensively, but can play all over the infield. He can safely be ignored from a fantasy perspective. |

Nationals MLB.com beat writer Bill Ladson reports that the A's, Astros, Padres and Braves have "serious" interest in utilityman Alberto Gonzalez. |
Though he can't hit a lick, Gonzalez offers the ability to play all over the infield, making him a viable bench player. He doesn't figure to cost much. Gonzalez batted just .247/.277/.301 with five RBI in 186 at-bats with the Nationals last season. |
