Sun Sep 1 201310:28Aaron Harang released by Mariners
Mariners released RHP Aaron Harang.
He had no trouble passing through waivers after being designated for assignment last week. Someone might add Harang for depth for the stretch run, but he certainly won't have any fantasy relevance.

Mon Aug 26 201318:20Aaron Harang designated for assignment
Mariners designated RHP Aaron Harang for assignment.
Harang is one of only seven pitchers this season to record two shutouts, but the lows far outweighed the highs for the veteran righty. He wound up posting a 5.76 ERA over 22 starts for the M's after being acquired just after the season. Harang will certainly clear waivers but could catch on for depth somewhere for the final month.

Sun Aug 25 201319:20Harang roughed up in loss to Angels
Aaron Harang was charged with seven runs on nine hits over 5 2/3 innings Sunday in a loss to the Angels.
Harang was coming off a quality start in his last outing, but was roughed up for his 11th loss of the season. He allowed two walks, seven strikeouts, and gave up a two-run shot to Kole Calhoun in the sixth inning. Harang now owns a 5.76 ERA and 1.34 WHIP over 120 1/3 innings.

Tue Aug 20 201300:37Harang haults wretched stretch in no-decision
Aaron Harang allowed only one run on five hits over seven innings Monday against the A's.
Harang entered this start with a 12.75 ERA in three August starts. He lasted just 12 innings total in those beatings, allowing five homers and walking more batters than he whiffed. Calling Monday's performance "unexpected" would be an understatement. Harang (5.49 ERA) may have saved his job, but he still shouldn't be trusted in any format.

Wed Aug 14 201323:22Harang allows three runs on no-decision Wed.
Aaron Harang allowed three runs over five innings in a no-decision against the Rays on Wednesday.
Harang was in line for his sixth win of the season before reliever Danny Farquhar suffered a blown save in the ninth. Harang allowed seven hits, including a Wil Myers two-run homer, and three walks, striking out five in the outing. He remains unrosterable in all fantasy formats. His next start will come Monday against the A's in Oakland.

Wed Aug 7 201319:33Aaron Harang hit hard by Blue Jays
Aaron Harang was lit up again Wednesday, yielding seven runs in two-plus innings versus the Blue Jays.
The incredibly inconsistent Harang allowed seven runs last time out against the Orioles. He's had five outings this year in which he's given up seven or more runs, but he's also had two shutouts and four starts in which he's allowed just one earned run. Still, with his ERA up to 5.79 now, his rotation spot has to be in doubt.

Fri Aug 2 201322:18Harang hammered for seven runs in loss
Aaron Harang was blasted for seven runs in five innings in a loss to the Orioles.
Harang was touched up for seven hits, including a pair of home runs. This was the fourth time this season that he allowed at least seven earned runs in a start. After getting his ERA under 5.00 for the first time this season after his last start, it's now back up to 5.27 on the year. He'll get the Blue Jays next at home.

Sat Jul 27 201319:28Harang allows just one run in loss to Twins
Aaron Harang allowed just one run in five innings but the Mariners lost to the Twins on Saturday.
Harang has been dominant now in two straight starts, looking energized out of the All-Star break. He gave up only three Minnesota hits on Saturday and struck out five. This small stretch of positive results will get a test next week when he faces the Orioles in Baltimore.

Tue Jul 23 201301:18Aaron Harang beats Indians for fifth win
Starting on 11 days' rest, Aaron Harang pitched seven innings of one-run ball in the Mariners' win over the Indians on Monday.
The break did Harang some good, as he turned in his best start since his shutout of the Astros on June 11. He's now 5-8 with a 5.06 ERA for the season. He has a favorable matchup coming up against the Twins this weekend.

Thu Jul 11 201301:36Harang tagged for seven runs on eight hits
Aaron Harang was tagged for seven runs on eight hits in five innings by the Red Sox in a loss Wednesday.
He also walked three and failed to strike out a batter. Harang actually entered the contest riding a rare streak of competency, posting a 2.45 ERA and 22/3 K/BB ratio over his last five starts. We still wouldn't trust him outside of deep AL-only leagues. Harang finishes the first half 4-8 with a 5.38 ERA.

Fri Jul 5 201322:29Harang gives up two runs in win over Reds
Aaron Harang allowed two runs in six innings in a win over the Reds on Friday.
Harang pitched well against his former team, scattering six hits (including a solo homer by Joey Votto) against one walk and four strikeouts. The veteran right-hander has allowed three earned runs or fewer in seven out of his last eight starts, lowering his ERA from 8.58 to 4.92 along the way. However, he makes for a risky fantasy option against the Red Sox next week.

Sat Jun 29 201322:57Harang allows three earned, M's lose to Cubs
Aaron Harang yielded three earned runs in eight innings Saturday in the Mariners' loss to the Cubs.
The game went into extra innings, so Harang escaped with a no-decision. The veteran right-hander did not walk a batter but he also struck out only one. He has a rough 5.08 ERA through 72 2/3 innings (13 starts) this season.

Sun Jun 23 201302:09Harang surrenders 3 runs on 6 hits in ND
Aaron Harang surrendered three runs on six hits over five innings as part of a no-decision victory against the A's on Saturday.
He struck out three and walked two. Harang's peripherals (including a 59/11 K/BB rate and a much lower FIP than ERA) continue to indicate that improvement is coming, we aren't seeing it in actuality. While the veteran fly-ball pitcher is a nice fit for Safeco, even a cavernous park can't contain the projectiles opposing hitters often swat into orbit off one of Harang's slop offerings. On the plus side, he didn't allow a homer to Oakland.

Tue Jun 18 201301:31Harang shelled again, allows 12 hits to LAA
Aaron Harang was tagged for four runs on 12 hits in five innings by the Angels in a loss Monday.
He struck out four and didn't walk a batter. Harang actually has an outstanding 56/9 K/BB rate and a solid 1.31 WHIP. That's the good news for Seattle management and AL-only owners still holding out hope he'll turn it around. To the naked eye, however, Harang just doesn't have the stuff to get out major league hitters anymore. It's great to eliminate free passes, but it doesn't do much good if the slop you loft over the plate is obliterated all over the park. Harang (3-7) and his 5.73 ERA aren't to be trusted in any format.

Wed Jun 12 201301:16Aaron Harang strikes out 10 in second shutout
Aaron Harang pitched his second shutout of the year Tuesday, allowing just two hits and striking out 10 against the Astros.
J.D. Martinez had Houston's only two hits. Harang also shut out San Diego last month, throwing a four-hitter then. Incredibly, he's 1-6 with an 8.35 ERA in his other eight starts this year.

Fri Jun 7 201301:23Aaron Harang obliterated in loss to Yankees
Aaron Harang was obliterated in Thursday's loss to the Yankees, getting torched for six runs on eight hits in only 2 1/3 innings.
All of the damage came in the third inning, which included back-to-back homers from Robinson Cano and Mark Teixeira. It's only been nine starts, but the M's have to be painfully close to ending the Aaron Harang experiment. He's compiled a 6.70 ERA and 1.40 WHIP through his first 45 2/3 innings. Should he remain in the rotation to take on the Astros at home on Tuesday, he still shouldn't be a consideration in any fantasy leagues.

Sat Jun 1 201316:46Harang goes six innings in no-decision
Aaron Harang yielded two runs (one earned) in six innings Saturday in a no-decision against the Twins.
Coming off his first shutout since 2009, Harang held the Twins to four hits and a pair of walks while fanning four batters. He has quietly allowed two runs or fewer in four out of his last five starts, lowering his ERA from 11.37 to 5.82 in the process. The big right-hander also has a solid 39/9 K/BB ratio across 43 1/3 frames. He lines up to face the Yankees next Thursday at home, but is better left as an AL-only option.

Wed May 22 201301:09Aaron Harang gets pounded for seven runs
Aaron Harang was lit up for seven runs in 3 2/3 innings by the Angels on Tuesday.
Josh Hamilton and Howie Kendrick homered off him. Harang fell to 1-5 with an 8.58 ERA. The Mariners need to make a switch here, whether it's Jeremy Bonderman, Hector Noesi or James Paxton as the replacement. Erasmo Ramirez still isn't healthy, unfortunately.

Sun May 19 201312:26Aaron Harang expected to start Tuesday
Aaron Harang (back) threw a bullpen session Sunday with no issues and is in line to start on Tuesday in Anaheim.
Harang missed his last outing with some minor back stiffness, but he's alright now. The big righty holds a 7.30 ERA and 1.42 WHIP over five starts this season but does boast a 23/5 K/BB ratio over 24 2/3 frames.
