Teixeira will miss the remainder of the season after tests revealed a fracture in his leg, Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News reports.
Teixeira underwent further tests Friday after he was dealing with more pain than anticipated with the initial diagnosis of a deep bone bruise, and it appears his worst fears were confirmed. The first baseman was enjoying his best season in recent vintage while healthy, as he mashed 31 home runs with 79 RBI in 111 games. Greg Bird figures to continue to serve as the primary first baseman in his place going forward.

New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira will miss the rest of the season after an MRI revealed a fracture in his leg, according to the New York Daily News. Teixeira has been unable to walk without pain since suffering what was described as a deep bone bruise nearly a month ago, but the examination was the first to reveal the extent of the injury. “This one definitely shows a fracture…where the previous tests did not,” general manager Brian Cashman said.“I’m not a doctor, and I know medicine is an inexact science. There’s a purpose to following the injury and repeating tests. This was the third time, and there is a definite, obvious conclusion…I think Tex was expecting good news, but it was quite the opposite.” Teixeira will finish the season with a .906 OPS and 31 home runs over 111 games.

Tue Sep 8 201516:17Teixeira (leg) had two injections to address nerve issues in leg
Teixeira (leg) had two injections to address nerve issues in his leg, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. Yankees' GM Brian Cashman admitted that he does "wonder" whether Teixeira will be back with the team this season.
Teixeira remains hobbled and was spotted on crutches Tuesday as he continues to recovery from a deep bone bruise in his shin. He's without any semblance of a timetable, and at this point the Yankees are simply hoping he'll be able to return and contribute sometime before the end of the 2015 campaign. Rookie Greg Bird will continue to see the majority of the starts at first base in Teixeira's absence.
Fri Sep 4 201511:19Teixeira (shin) placed on 15-day DL retroactive to Aug
Teixeira (shin) was placed on the 15-day DL retroactive to Aug. 27 on Friday.
This is mostly a logistical move, as Teixeira had already been reported to be out for weeks. Since the move is retroactive to Aug. 27, Teixeira will be eligible to return Sept. 11, but he'll probably have to wait significantly longer than that to come back. Greg Bird will continue to see starts at first base with Teixeira out.

General manager Brian Cashman said Tuesday that it will be "weeks" before Teixeira (leg) is able to play again for the Yankees, ESPN New York's Wallace Matthews reports.
This quote confirms that Teixeira, who is still on crutches, will have a hard time contributing much for New York or for his fantasy owners over the final month of the season. Greg Bird will be the Yankees' starting first baseman while Teixeira remains out.

The Yankees want him to stay off the leg for a few more days, though, putting a return before the end of the week in question. Greg Bird is starting at first base again Tuesday.

Teixeira (bruised shin) has gone back to New York for further testing as his injury doesn't seem to be getting better, NJ.com reports.
Reportedly, Teixeira will not play in the Yankees' three-game series in Boston. Because it's now roster callup season, the Yankees have little urgency to make a DL decision on Teixeira, so owners will have to just bide their time and wait for the test results.

New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira was sent for more testing on his bruised shin Tuesday, according to NJ.com. Teixeira has played in only two games since fouling a ball off his right shin August 17. Manager Joe Girardi confirmed that Teixeira would miss the remainder of the current series against the Boston Red Sox and expressed concern at the slow progress Teixeira has made in his recovery, going so far as to suggest the initial testing may have missed a fracture. GM Brian Cashman dismissed those concerns, however. "I'm not a medical person so I can't say I know," Cashman said. "I think in the [Derek] Jeter case, obviously, I think he had a bone bruise and played through it every day and eventually it turned into a fracture, but I'm not aware of any [misdiagnosed broken bones] that I can think of."
Mon Aug 31 201510:16Mark Teixeira: (Leg) Ruled Out for Monday's Game
Teixeira (leg) will not be in the lineup for Monday's series opener against the Red Sox, the Associated Press reports.
Yankees manager Joe Girardi relayed after Sunday's 20-6 trouncing of the Braves that Teixeira was feeling "a little better," but he needs more time for his bruised shin to heal up. As a result, Greg Bird should remain the Yankees' top option for starts at first base, though Alex Rodriguez could get a look at the position at some point during the series with two left-handers on tap to start for Boston.

Teixeira (leg) remains out of the starting lineup Sunday, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.

Sat Aug 29 201516:25Teixeira (leg) remains out of lineup Saturday against Braves
Teixeira (leg) remains out of the lineup Saturday against the Braves.
Saturday's absence marks Teixeira's third straight and 10th in the team's last 11 games. Fortunately for the Yankees, they have a strong fill-in option at first base in Greg Bird and some decent bench options, so they can afford to just ride this out with Teixeira with rosters set to expand Tuesday. That said, it's uncertain when he may be well enough to return to the lineup.

Teixeira has been out of the lineup for a long period of time due to the bone bruise, and it appears the issue acted up again following his return to the lineup Tuesday. Manager Joe Girardi said he hopes that he'll return to the lineup Friday, but it likely will come down to how well he feels at that time.
