Tue Jun 5 201221:44Roy Oswalt won't start Saturday
Rangers manager Ron Washington said Roy Oswalt will not replace Scott Feldman in the rotation Saturday.
Oswalt is scheduled to make three more appearances in the minors, and the Rangers have no intention of accelerating that timetable. "The possibility of accelerating him was mentioned," Washington said. "That was cut down. When we get Roy Oswalt here, we want him here for the long haul. We want to make sure he's ready to give us quality outings." If Feldman doesn't get the ball Saturday, Robbie Ross looks like the most likely option to replace him.

Sun Jun 3 201212:46Roy Oswalt goes two scoreless at Triple-A
Roy Oswalt tossed two scoreless innings in his first start for Triple-A Round Rock Saturday.
Oswalt allowed three hits and a walk while striking out one. He threw 34 pitches and then threw another 30 in the bullpen after the game. The veteran righty reportedly was just a notch below the velocity he displayed last season with the Phillies. "Arm feels great," Oswalt said. "That was about where I wanted to be at as far as velocity and stamina. I think I could've gone two or three more innings." Oswalt's next outing for Round Rock will come Thursday. He's currently expected to throw 50 pitches in that start, though he's hoping the Rangers will let him throw 60-65.

Wed May 30 201214:09Oswalt aims to make four tune-up starts
Roy Oswalt hopes to join the Rangers after making four minor league tune-up starts.
Oswalt, who signed a one-year, $5 million deal with Texas on Tuesday, has been throwing bullpen sessions every other day in an effort to get ready for game action. He's scheduled to make his first minor league tune-up Saturday with Triple-A Round Rock. If all goes well, the veteran right-hander should be ready to join the Rangers in late June.

Tue May 29 201215:20Rangers considered front-runner for Oswalt
According to Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com, the Rangers are considered the front-runner to sign free agent right-hander Roy Oswalt.
This isn't much different than what we've heard throughout the day, but Rosenthal and Morosi are reporting that approval from ownership may be the only thing standing in the way of a deal. It's thought that Oswalt wants $5 million to $7.5 million in a potential contract. The Red Sox, Phillies, Dodgers and Orioles are among the other teams who have expressed interest in the 34-year-old.

Tue May 29 201213:44Report: Rangers negotiating with Roy Oswalt
According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Rangers are "actively engaged" in negotiations with Roy Oswalt and may be pushed into finalizing a decision this week.

Tue May 29 201211:42Dodgers think Oswalt will sign with Rangers
Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com reports that while Roy Oswalt threw for the Dodgers last week, team officials are convinced that he'll sign with the Rangers, possibly as soon as this week.
Oswalt has also thrown for the Red Sox and Phillies in recent weeks, but there's increased chatter that the Rangers are his preferred destination. The veteran right-hander is close with Rangers' president Nolan Ryan and likes the idea of pitching for a contender close to his Mississippi home. "I would be shocked if he doesn't go to Texas,'' said a baseball official. "A team is going to have to greatly outbid Texas to keep him from going there.'' The Rangers are a pretty good fit, as Neftali Feliz was recently placed on the disabled list with a UCL sprain in his elbow and could return as a reliever. Oswalt should make a decision on his future soon.

Tue May 29 201208:40Report: Roy Oswalt deal expected this week
According to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com, "folks" think Roy Oswalt will decide on a team this week.
We're assuming those "folks" are baseball folks. The Rangers are considered the favorite to sign the veteran right-hander, but the Orioles, Red Sox, Phillies, Dodgers and Brewers have also been mentioned as possibilities. Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reported Sunday that he's looking for a prorated $7.5 million contract.

Tue May 29 201200:26Dodgers, Oswalt 'very far apart' for contract
According to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com, the Dodgers made an offer to Roy Oswalt a while ago and the two sides were "very far apart."
This seems to jibe with Sunday's report by FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, who mentioned that the Dodgers checked in on Oswalt and weren't thrilled by his asking price, which was reportedly in the range of a prorated $7.5 million salary. Heyman considers the Rangers the favorites for the veteran right-hander and he certainly isn't alone there, but there's increased speculation that he will sign wherever he will get the most money.

Mon May 28 201220:31Report: Dodgers make an offer to Roy Oswalt
Tim Brown of Yahoo.com reports that the Dodgers have made a contract offer to free agent right-hander Roy Oswalt.
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reported Sunday that the Dodgers had checked in on Oswalt but found his asking price -- reportedly a pro-rated $7.5 million -- to be "excessive." Evidently, though, they're still in the running, as are the Rangers and some other unnamed clubs, according to Brown. Oswalt has worked out for a handful of teams and should sign on with someone before long.

Sun May 27 201218:59Oswalt to top Pettitte's $2.5M guaranteed
Jon Heyman was told by one executive of an interested team that Roy Oswalt will top the $2.5 million Andy Pettitte is guaranteed by the Yankees.
Oswalt is reportedly seeking a pro-rated $7.5 million, but Heyman's source seems skeptical about whether he'll meet that asking price. Oswalt has worked out for the Phillies, Red Sox, Rangers and at least one other team. The Dodgers are also rumored to have renewed interest.

Sun May 27 201214:30Teams balking at Roy Oswalt's asking price?
Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that Roy Oswalt might still be unsigned because teams are balking at his high asking price.
Rosenthal says the Dodgers checked in on Oswalt but found the price -- reportedly a pro-rated $7.5 million -- to be "excessive." "I'm not sure it's the same price for everyone, but I think he is looking for the biggest payday," said one exec from a team with interest in Oswalt. "In the winter, proximity to home was most important. Now, it seems like it's dollars." Oswalt has thrown for the Phillies, Red Sox, Rangers and at least one other team within the past two weeks.

Thu May 24 201212:05Report: O's interested in free agent Oswalt
According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, the Orioles have right-hander Roy Oswalt on their "radar."
Oswalt was hoping to sign with the Cardinals or Rangers, but neither team has expressed serious interest and we're now a quarter of the way through the 2012 season. So the free agent veteran is apparently beginning to consider other clubs. The Red Sox and Phillies are also thought to have some level of interest.

Wed May 23 201213:34Rival execs expect Oswalt to sign with Texas
According to Buster Olney of ESPN.com, the "full expectation" among some rival executives is that Roy Oswalt will sign with the Rangers.
It's a logical fit now that Neftali Feliz (elbow) is on the disabled list, but Olney was told that Oswalt may be attracted to the Rangers because of his ties with Nolan Ryan and Greg Maddux and the team's proximity to his home in Mississippi. The Rangers reportedly watched Oswalt throw last week, as did the Red Sox and Cardinals, but they have yet to make a formal offer.

Tue May 22 201217:42Red Sox haven't talked deal with Roy Oswalt
Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that the Red Sox have not discussed a contract with Roy Oswalt.
Oswalt is said to have worked out for the Red Sox recently, but there was apparently no discussion of a deal. The 34-year-old right-hander has begun to get tuned up and should be ready to sign somewhere soon. He posted a 3.69 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 93/33 K/BB ratio in 139 innings (23 starts) last season.

Mon May 21 201220:03Rangers considering Oswalt after Feliz injury
Rangers general manager Jon Daniels wouldn't rule out a pursuit of Roy Oswalt following the injury to Neftali Feliz (elbow).
Feliz is likely out at least until the All-Star break, and it's possible he might not be ready to start when he does return. The Rangers will fill his spot with Scott Feldman for now, but they're not committed to him long-term. Oswalt threw for the Rangers last Friday and reportedly would like to sign on with someone soon.

Sat May 19 201211:39Rangers held session with Oswalt on Friday
FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal reports free agent Roy Oswalt worked out for the Rangers on Friday.
According to Rosenthal, the Rangers' stance is the same as it was during the offseason, and they don't appear to have any interest in Oswalt as a starter. The veteran right-hander recently auditioned for the Phillies and Red Sox, and will have at least one more meeting with another club. Oswalt, of course, is only expected to sign with a team he thinks has a chance to win the World Series.

Fri May 18 201213:12Report: Oswalt could sign within a week
Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that Roy Oswalt could possibly sign somewhere within the next week and pitch for that team by mid- to late-June.
Rosenthal reported earlier Friday that Oswalt has already auditioned for the Phillies and Red Sox recently and has scheduled sessions with two other teams. The veteran right-hander will, not surprisingly, only sign for a team he thinks has a chance to win the World Series, though it sounds like he'll be open to pitching far away from his Mississippi home. Rosenthal says the Tigers and Yankees are not among the teams pursuing Oswalt.

Fri May 18 201212:12Report: Oswalt throws for Phillies, Red Sox
Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that Roy Oswalt threw a bullpen session for the Phillies last week and the Red Sox this week near his home in Mississippi.
Rosenthal also says he's scheduled to throw for two other teams, as well. One source told Rosenthal that Oswalt "appeared to be in good shape" but was "more in spring-training mode than mid-season form," which is not surprising. Assuming Vance Worley's elbow injury is indeed minor as the Phillies have said, it would appear that the Red Sox would be a better fit for the veteran right-hander. But, Oswalt might prefer the familiarity with the Phillies. Scott Miller of CBSSports.com says Oswalt will pitch only for a World Series contending club and wants to do so by June.

Sun Apr 22 201208:19Red Sox, Cards reaching out to Roy Oswalt
Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Red Sox and Cardinals are "again reaching out" to free agent right-hander Roy Oswalt.
According to Rosenthal, Oswalt has been throwing bullpen sessions every other day in order to keep his arm in shape. He fully intends on pitching for someone this season, and it sounds like Boston and St. Louis are still interested in him. The Red Sox have an obvious need in their rotation, while the Cardinals could need him if they prefer to move Lance Lynn back to the bullpen.

Sat Mar 24 201222:52Angels GM denies interest in Roy Oswalt
Angels GM Jerry Dipoto told reporters Saturday that his club is not in pursuit of Roy Oswalt.
"I can't qualify for everything you hear," Dipoto said. "But I can say that we're quite happy with the way our starting pitchers have thrown this spring and the way they've developed." Garret Richards appears likely to open the season as the Angels' fifth starter, and Jerome Williams will be an option for that role as well once his hamstring strain heals.
