Sat Mar 26 201114:43Rays eying Felipe Paulino, Jose Arredondo?
The Rays are looking outside the organization for bullpen help, with the Rockies' Felipe Paulino and the Reds' Jose Arredondo possibly of interest to them.
It's not clear if the St. Petersburg Times' Marc Topkin threw those names out simply because they're out of options or if he's heard that they're definite targets. Either way, Rays manager Joe Maddon isn't hiding the fact that they're looking for external help. "There's still the opportunity to do some other things that we're looking into externally," Maddon said. "Just a couple other little things going on, obviously I'd-have-to-shoot-you-if-I-told-you kind of stuff."

Thu Mar 10 201113:46Paulino moving to bullpen
The Rockies have informed Felipe Paulino that he's moving to the bullpen.
The Rockies made the decision after Paulino gave up four runs on eight hits and two walks against the White Sox on Tuesday. He was considered the favorite to replace Aaron Cook in the starting rotation, but now the club will likely consider Esmil Rogers, Clayton Mortensen and perhaps even John Maine if he's feeling strong enough after shoulder surgery.

Sat Nov 20 201009:59Paulino to work as starter in spring training
New acquisition Felipe Paulino will work as a starter for the Rockies during spring training.
He has the bullpen as a fallback option, but Paulino has a legitimate chance of being part of the opening day rotation. Paulino has an ERA approaching 6.00 over his two-plus big league seasons, but he's struck out nearly a batter per inning and has big upside if he can harness the walks.

Thu Nov 18 201013:40Rockies acquire Felipe Paulino from Astros
Rockies acquired RHP Felipe Paulino from the Astros for INF Clint Barmes.
A potential coup for Rockies general manager Dan O'Dowd. Paulino, 27, has a 5.83 ERA over 208 1/3 big league innings, but has done so with solid peripherals, averaging 8.1 K/9 and 3.9 BB/9. If he can keep the ball in the ballpark -- something he managed to do this past season -- and stay off the disabled list, he could do well in Colorado. At the very least, the Rockies have found themselves some insurance for their rotation.

The Astros will soon make a decision on whether to bring Felipe Paulino (shoulder) back this season.
The righty was upbeat Friday, a day after a simulated game. "I'm a little sore today, like normal the day after I pitch," Paulino said. "I think it's a good step for me today." He hasn't pitched since June 20 because of shoulder inflammation, but updates on him have been positive for the last month, so it seems like there's a good chance he'll be back in some capacity at the end of the season.

Paulino hasn't progressed despite already missing six weeks with the shoulder ailment. He still hopes to pitch again this season, but the Astros won't push him.
