Sat Sep 15 201216:24Villanueva takes no-decision vs. BoSox
Carlos Villanueva yielded two runs in seven-plus innings Saturday in a no-decision against the Red Sox.
Villanueva allowed just four hits (including a solo homer by Cody Ross) and two walks while striking out six. He was pulled after issuing a leadoff walk in the eighth. Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulous questioned Villanueva's ability to hold up as a starting pitcher earlier this week, but the impending free agent now has a 3.49 ERA and 79/22 K/BB ratio in 85 innings over 14 starts this year. It will be fascinating to see what happens with him this winter.

Thu Sep 13 201220:06Villanueva upset about durability questions
Carlos Villanueva expressed disappointment Thursday that Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos questioned his ability to hold up as a starting pitcher.
"People are afraid I might blow out. Look, guys blow out every year for any reason at all," said Villanueva, an impending free agent. "I don't really like the advertisement. GMs are influential." Villanueva spoke with Anthopoulos about the matter on Wednesday and is still open to returning to the Blue Jays, but is excited to see what's out there in free agency. The 29-year-old right-hander has been a nice surprise this season, posting a 3.48 ERA and 109/41 K/BB ratio in 111 1/3 innings over 13 starts and 22 relief appearances.

Sun Jul 15 201215:53Villanueva outstanding in win over Indians
Carlos Villanueva was outstanding in Sunday's victory over the Indians, scattering three hits over six scoreless innings.
He did struggle with his command a bit, walking five in the game, but also showed his dominance by racking up eight strikeouts. With all of the injuries that the Blue Jays have sustained in their rotation this season, they needed something to go right, and Villanueva has provided a nice boost. Through his first three starts, he's 2-0 with a 1.59 ERA and 21/6 K/BB ratio in 17 innings of work. He's well worthy of a flyer in most mixed leagues for his next start against the Red Sox in Boston on Saturday.
