Mon Oct 12 201509:10Carlos Gomez: Delivers clutch RBI single in Game 3 ALDS win
In his return to the starting lineup Sunday, Gomez went 1-for-4 with an RBI single in Houston's Game 3 ALDS win over Kansas City.
After being limited as a pinch-runner and defensive substitute in the first two games of the ALDS, the veteran center fielder delivered a clutch RBI single with two outs in the sixth inning to give the Astros a two-run cushion in the game. "It's not about the big hit that I hit," Gomez said after the game. "It's about that win we had today. That's the most important thing. I was trying to keep myself breathing and have a good at-bat and looking for the pitch that he throws me and not miss it because when I miss it you don't want to know how I feel." At less than 100-percent, Gomez's availability for Game 4 of the ALDS on Monday afternoon is unclear.
Sun Oct 11 201512:43Carlos Gomez: In Game 3 lineup
Gomez (oblique) will return to the lineup for Game 3 on Sunday against the Royals, Jerry Crasnick of ESPN reports.
While Gomez didn't start either of the first two games for the Astros, he was available off the bench and did enter late in each game on the basepaths. He'll return to center field Sunday, bumping Jake Marisnick out of the lineup.
Fri Oct 9 201511:48Gomez (oblique) not in lineup Friday for Game 2 of ALDS
Gomez (oblique) is not in the lineup Friday for Game 2 of the ALDS, Josh Vernier of 610 Sports Radio reports.
After missing Game 1 with an oblique injury, it was assumed by many pundits that Gomez would return to the lineup for Game 2, however that doesn't appear to be the case. Much like Thursday, Gomez will likely be available off the bench to play in a pinch-hit or pinch-run situation, but it's unlikely he will spend any major time in the field Friday. Jake Marisnick will man center field and hit ninth in the batting order in his place.
Thu Oct 8 201518:37Gomez continues to deal with oblique injury
Gomez continues to deal with his oblique injury, but indicated he's available to pinch run Thursday and hopes to be in the Game 2 lineup Friday, Jon Morosi of Fox Sports reports.
Gomez has been suffering from the issue for an extended period of time, but continues to battle through it to play. Barring a setback of some kind, it seems like he'll be back in the lineup for the second game of the series.
Thu Oct 8 201516:35Gomez not in lineup for Game 1 of ALDS
Gomez is not in the lineup for Game 1 of the ALDS, Josh Vernier of 610 Sports Radio reports.
Gomez missed much of September with a back injury, however he was able to play in the Wildcard game against the Yankees , hitting a critical home run to help the Astros advance. While nothing has been announced as of yet, Gomez's absence in Thursday's lineup could be a result of his lingering back injury, however he will likely be available to pinch-hit.

Gomez (back) is in the lineup for Tuesday's Wildcard matchup against the Yankees, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
There was some concern Gomez would miss Tuesday's game considering he was unavailable for the Astros' final series of the season with a strain in his back, but it's clear now he should be good to go. While the strain will likely continue to affect him for much of the postseason, he should provide some veteran leadership for a young Houston team that clawed its way back into the postseason picture.
Mon Oct 5 201511:15Carlos Gomez: Expected to play in AL Wild Card game
Gomez (back) is expected to play during Tuesday's AL Wild Card game against the Yankees, Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Gomez made his last start for the Astros on Wednesday, but aggravated his left intercostal strain on a throw from the outfield during the game. As a result, he sat out Houston's final series against Arizona, but he'll attempt to play in the AL Wild Card game at Yankee Stadium on five days rest. "I feel really good," Gomez said. "It's a special moment. I know it's been tough for me because I want to do my best. But here we are. We make the playoffs, I can't explain how good I feel because you know, being in the playoffs it's what we're working for the whole year. And here we are."
