Thu May 5 2011 | 01:10 | Eduardo Sanchez takes a loss |
Eduardo Sanchez took a loss on Wednesday after entering a 6-6 game in the ninth inning and surrendering what would prove to be a game-winning two-run homer to Florida's Mike Stanton. |
Sanchez was getting squeezed extremely tight by home-plate umpire Bob Davidson, but it was still a disappointing outing for St. Louis' closer of the moment, who recorded just one out before being replaced by Mitchell Boggs. As far as we know, Sanchez will get the Cardinals' next save opportunity, but it might be time to stop trying to predict what manager Tony La Russa is going to do in the late innings |

Tue May 3 2011 | 23:31 | Sanchez mows down Fish, earns second save |
Eduardo Sanchez earned his second save of the season by striking out one and tossing a scoreless ninth inning against the Marlins in Tuesday's 7-5 win. |
One day after Mitchell Boggs took his second loss of the season, skipper Tony La Russa turned to the 22-year-old youngster to close out the Marlins. Called up on April 13, Sanchez has a 1.64 ERA, 0.75 WHIP and ridiculous 18/3 K/BB ratio. He's an intriguing talent who dominated Triple-A last season. In St. Louis' wide-open bullpen, Sanchez deserves a look in all formats. He might just have the closer job to himself before long. |

Wed Apr 27 2011 | 23:41 | Eduardo Sanchez finally allows a run |
With Mitchell Boggs unavailable after throwing 21 pitches in a blown save on Tuesday, Eduardo Sanchez nearly cost the Cardinals another game on Wednesday, allowing three hits and two runs before finally retiring Hunter Pence for the final out in a 6-5 St. Louis win. |
The runs were the first Sanchez has allowed since making his major-league debut on April 13 against the Diamondbacks. He did notch two more strikeouts tonight, running is K/BB ratio to an incredible 14/1 through eight innings of work, but likely ensured Boggs will remain the man in the ninth for St. Louis for at least another few games. |

Mon Apr 18 2011 | 08:58 | Sanchez has eight strikeouts in three innings |
Eduardo Sanchez has fanned eight of the first nine major league hitters that he's faced. |
An electric start for the 22-year-old youngster, who was called up on April 13. He posted a strong 1.67 ERA and 31/12 K/BB ratio across 27 innings last year at the Triple-A level and is now mowing batters down with ease in the majors. Sanchez probably won't get consideration for the ninth inning this season because of his inexperience, but he's an intriguing talent. |

Cardinals optioned RHP Eduardo Sanchez to Triple-A Memphis. |
Sanchez failed to land a spot in the Cardinals' season-opening bullpen this spring despite the strong 1.67 ERA and 31/12 K/BB ratio that he posted over 27 innings last season in Triple-A. He's clearly deserving of a shot and should get it at some point in the early summer. |
