X-rays on Conor Jackson's right knee came back negative. |
Jackson left Sunday's game with a bruised right knee, though he exited holding his left arm, after he ran full-speed into the right-field wall. In addition to the knee injury, he also has a sore right wrist, forearm and ribs. "I think the worse is probably the knee," Jackson said. "It's still banged up. After a few days of treatment, it will be all right." Darnell McDonald replaced him on Sunday. Jackson will probably need a few days rest. |

Jackson, 29, has hit .249/.315/.342 with four home runs and 38 RBI in 102 games this season. The Red Sox will use the utilityman infrequently, but he bolsters their bench with a bit more quality depth. Rice has a decent fastball and has enjoyed some success this year at the Triple-A level, but he'll have to develop a quality secondary pitch to make it as a major league reliever. |

Jackson was hurt on what should have been the final play of the game, but Jemile Weeks' throw sailed wide and caused him to collide with Andrus. He said after the game that his ribs and back were sore, though it's not clear if he might have to miss some action. |
