Tue May 20 2014 | 23:25 | Cesar Ramos moved to Rays' bullpen |
Cesar Ramos has been moved to the Rays' bullpen. |
He gets the boot from the rotation with Alex Cobb (oblique) set to return on Thursday. Ramos was lit up for 13 runs -- nine earned -- over his last two starts, so the demotion comes as no surprise. He should be a weapon in relief for the Rays. |

Sun May 18 2014 | 00:43 | Cesar Ramos gets lifted in second |
Cesar Ramos lasted just 1 1/3 innings and gave up four runs in a loss to the Angels on Saturday. |
Ideally, this will be his last start for a while. Alex Cobb is going to return next week and should slide into his rotation spot. Ramos did well in his first four starts of the season, but he's been lit up in the last two. Middle relief is likely his best role. |

Tue May 13 2014 | 01:43 | Ramos torched by Mariners for 9 runs (5 ER) |
Cesar Ramos was lit up for nine runs -- five earned -- on 11 hits in Monday's loss to the Mariners. |
To his credit, Ramos had served up all nine of those runs by the end of the third inning. Unwilling to abuse his bullpen, Joe Maddon sent the left-hander back out there and Ramos collected three scoreless innings in what was already a laugher. And it's not like his teammates showed up to the park with their "A" games either, committing three errors behind him, with the southpaw committing a throwing error himself in solidarity. Ramos will carry his 3.71 ERA into his next outing against the Angels on the road. |

Thu May 1 2014 | 16:59 | Cesar Ramos holds Red Sox to one run |
Cesar Ramos pitched 4 2/3 innings of one-run ball Thursday against the Red Sox in his latest start for the Rays. |
Since ascending to the rotation, Ramos still hasn't topped five innings in any of his three starts. However, he's gotten the job done, allowing just two runs in those starts, even though he's walked nine and struck out nine in the process. He's too risky to play in AL-only leagues right now. |

Sat Apr 26 2014 | 22:32 | Cesar Ramos goes five scoreless in win |
Cesar Ramos delivered five scoreless innings in the Rays' 4-0 win over the White Sox on Saturday. |
Ramos didn't tally a single strikeout and gave up five hits along with two walks, but he worked around the danger by inducing eight groundball outs in his five frames to earn his first win of the season. The 29-year-old lefty will take on the Red Sox at Fenway Park next. |

Sun Apr 20 2014 | 18:37 | Ramos holds Yankees to one run in no-decision |
Cesar Ramos allowed one run on four hits over five innings but didn't factor in the decision in Sunday's loss to the Yankees. |
Ramos struggled in his first start but showed a lot more Sunday, walking one while striking out three. He was pressed into action with the injuries to Rays starters Alex Cobb and Matt Moore, and the southpaw likely garnered another start with the positive outing. He'll take the hill Saturday at the White Sox. |

Cesar Ramos will make at least one more start. |
Moved into the rotation due injury, Ramos allowed four runs over just two innings Sunday against the Reds, but the Rays are going to give him at least one more start. He currently lines up to start Friday against the Yankees, though things could change if there's a rainout Tuesday in Baltimore. |

Sun Apr 13 2014 | 17:16 | Cesar Ramos struggles in first start |
Cesar Ramos wasn't impressive in his first start of the season Sunday, allowing four runs over just two innings in a loss to the Reds. |
Ramos walked three and also allowed three hits, including one that left the yard. He needed 47 pitches to cover the two frames. With Alex Cobb (oblique) joining Matt Moore (elbow) and Jeremy Hellickson (elbow) on the disabled list, Ramos should get at least another shot or two to improve. He'll get the Yankees later this week. |

Fri Apr 11 2014 | 17:53 | Cesar Ramos to move into Rays' rotation |
Cesar Ramos will start on Sunday against the Reds. |
The Rays opted to move Ramos from the bullpen to the rotation rather than bring Erik Bedard up from Triple-A. Ramos competed for a rotation spot in spring training and pitched well -- posting a 3.45 ERA and 13/1 K/BB ratio -- before ultimately losing out to Jake Odorizzi. AL-only leaguers should take a shot on him. |

Tue Apr 8 2014 | 18:46 | Ramos or Bedard likely to replace Moore |
Rays executive vice president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said that Cesar Ramos and Erik Bedard are the main candidates to take Matt Moore's (elbow) rotation spot. |
He listed Nate Karns and Mike Montgomery as outside candidates. Ramos has made just three starts in 143 appearances as a major leaguer, but he was a candidate for the No. 5 spot this spring before losing out to Jake Odorizzi. Bedard opted out of his minor league deal with the Rays when he didn't win the fifth spot but wound up re-signing when he couldn't find a major league gig elsewhere. |

Tue Mar 4 2014 | 11:34 | Cesar Ramos in hunt for Rays rotation spot |
Rays manager Joe Maddon said Tuesday that Cesar Ramos is in the mix for the club's No. 5 starter job. |
Ramos will start Wednesday's Grapefruit League game against the Yankees and try to make a good impression. The 29-year-old left-hander registered a 4.14 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, and 53/22 K/BB ratio in 67 1/3 innings last season out of the Tampa Bay bullpen. He is unlikely to be fantasy-relevant in 2014, no matter the role. |

Ramos had a 2.10 ERA and 29/10 K/BB ratio over 30 innings last season in the majors. The 28-year-old southpaw is out of options this spring, so he has a good shot to make the Rays' Opening Day roster. |
