Sun Jun 17 201216:20Chris Young quality in loss
Chris Young held the Reds to three runs (two earned) on nine hits and two walks in seven innings of Sunday's loss.
He struck out two. The quality start was Young's first in three outings since rejoining the rotation, but he's yet to allow more than two earned runs or go fewer than five innings. Unfortunately, it's likely just a matter of time before he goes back on the shelf, but Young is well worth an own in NL-only leagues and deeper mixed formats while he's taking the ball every fifth day.

Wed Jun 6 201214:14Mets place Young on paternity leave
Mets placed RHP Chris Young on the paternity leave list.
Young has left the team to be with his wife, who gave birth to a boy on Wednesday morning. It's been quite a 24 hours for the veteran right-hander, who allowed three runs (two earned) over five innings Tuesday night in his return from shoulder surgery. He'll presumably rejoin the Mets rotation this weekend or early next week.

Tue Jun 5 201210:19Mets officially call up Chris Young
Mets purchased the contract of RHP Chris Young from Triple-A Buffalo.
The move is now official. Young will make his regular season debut Tuesday against the Nationals after not pitching in the majors in over 13 months. Johan Santana's next start will be pushed back until Friday, giving him a full week to rest following his no-hitter. Young has a career 3.74 ERA, but needs to locate his pitches to be effective. He remains as big of an injury risk as any player in the league.

Mon Jun 4 201213:27Young (shoulder) set for Tuesday start
Chris Young (shoulder) will join the Mets rotation on Tuesday and square off against the Nationals.
The 33-year-old right-hander hasn't pitched in the majors in over 13 months and there is some concern that the Mets are pushing him to give Johan Santana an extra day's rest after his no-hitter. Young, however, has had good results during his rehab assignments, though his velocity has diminished. It's anyone's guess as to whether a heater in the low-80s will lead Young to future success in the NL East, but it's not as though he was ever a flamethrower. He's always been a good big league pitcher when healthy, and could be worth a look in deeper mixed and NL-only leagues.

Sat Jun 2 201216:18Chris Young to join Mets rotation on Tuesday
According to Bob Klapisch, Chris Young will join the Mets rotation to face the Nationals this week, most likely on Tuesday.
This would push Johan Santana's next start back until Friday, giving him a full week to rest after throwing 134 pitches in his masterpiece on Friday. Young has had good results during his rehab assignments, though his velocity is still diminished. It remains to be seen how his stuff will play at the Major League level, but it looks like we'll have our answer soon. He's an interesting pickup for those who are in need of pitching help, though counting on him to remain healthy seems foolish.

Sat Jun 2 201208:30Chris Young close to returning to Mets
Manager Terry Collins said Chris Young's rehab start at Triple-A Buffalo on Thursday might have been his last before returning to the Mets.
MLB.com's Paul Casella suggests either Young or Miguel Batista could return from the disabled list Monday. Despite his diminished velocity, Young has been effective on his rehab assignment, and is coming off six scoreless innings in his most recent start. He would presumably take Jeremy Hefner's spot in the rotation.

Fri Jun 1 201220:11Chris Young to make two more starts at AAA
Chris Young said Friday that he plans on making two more starts at Triple-A Buffalo on regular rest.
Although his velocity has been extremely low, he's been effective so far on his rehab assignment. Assuming no setbacks, there's a possibility that he could join the Mets rotation in two weeks. He's always been a good big league pitcher when healthy, and could be worth a look in deeper mixed and NL-only leagues.

Thu May 31 201213:31Young (shoulder) has encouraging rehab start
Chris Young (shoulder) hurled six scoreless innings in a rehab start for Triple-A Buffalo Thursday.
He gave up only two hits and three walks in his fourth rehab outing. The 33-year-old right-hander can escape his contract if he's not promoted by the Mets on Friday, but GM Sandy Alderson already stated that Young would make at least one more start in the minors. Young's fastball topped out at 82 mph in the first inning of Thursday's game, but he later got it up to 84. Over the last two years in the bigs, his heater has averaged 84.7.

Thu May 31 201210:33Chris Young (shoulder) struggling with velo
A scout told Bob Klapisch of the Bergen Record that Chris Young (shoulder) is only hitting 81-83 mph.
That's obviously a pretty bad sign. Young did well in three rehab outings at High-A Port St. Lucie but seems likely to be exposed now that he's moved on to Triple-A Buffalo. The 33-year-old right-hander seems doubtful to make any sort of impact in the major leagues this season.

Fri May 25 201221:12Young (shoulder) makes latest start in minors
Chris Young (shoulder) allowed three runs over 6 1/3 innings Friday in his latest start with High-A St. Lucie.
Young allowed five hits while striking out one and walking none. It was his first outing since last Wednesday, as he took a brief break from his rehab to be present for the birth of his child. Barring any setbacks, he should move up to Double- or Triple-A for his next start. The Mets are hoping he can eventually be a part of their rotation, but he's obviously no sure thing.

Chris Young (shoulder) will make one more appearance with High-A St. Lucie before being promoted to Triple-A Buffalo.

Thu May 10 201220:30Young (shoulder) pitches well in minors start
Chris Young (shoulder) tossed five shutout innings Thursday in his first minor league start with High-A St. Lucie.
Young gave up five hits while striking out four and walking a pair. It was an encouraging start, but the results are almost secondary to how his surgically-repaired shoulder feels. The veteran right-hander could eventually be an option to replace Miguel Batista for the fifth spot in the starting rotation, but he's likely about a month away and the Mets can't count on him for anything given his lengthy injury history.

Wed May 2 201212:59Young (shoulder) not ready for rehab stint
Chris Young (shoulder) will not begin a minor league rehab assignment Saturday.
The Mets were originally hoping Young would be able to pitch for High-A St. Lucie this weekend, but they don't want to rush him back from surgery. For what it's worth, the veteran right-hander sat at 85 mph on his fastball during a 75-pitch simulated game Monday, which isn't far off from what we've seen over the past couple of seasons. However, with his timetable pushed back a bit, it's unlikely he'll be a legitimate candidate to join the Mets' rotation until early-to-mid June.

Chris Young (shoulder) threw a simulated game Monday.
Barring any setbacks with his surgically-repaired shoulder, Young could begin a minor league rehab assignment this weeken with High-A St. Lucie. Chris Schwinden already appears vulnerable, so the veteran right-hander has an opportunity to join the Mets' rotation by late May or early June.

Young is currently working his way back from surgery to repair a torn anterior capsule in his right shoulder. He's likely about two weeks away from a minor league rehab assignment. The best case scenario is that he could be ready to join the Mets' rotation by late May.

Sun Apr 22 201211:41Chris Young nearly ready for rehab assignment
Chris Young (shoulder) could begin a rehab assignment with High-A St. Lucie within two weeks.
Mets pitching coach Dan Warthen said Young "feels great" after facing batters in extended spring training. The veteran right-hander is obviously a huge question mark, but it sounds like he could be MLB-ready sometime before the All-Star break. He has opt-out clauses in his contract on June 1 and July 1 if he is not promoted to the majors by those dates.

Wed Mar 28 201215:19Young (shoulder) close to facing hitters
Chris Young (shoulder) said Wednesday that he'll be ready to face hitters soon.
Young, who signed a minor league deal with the Mets earlier this week, is currently working his way back from surgery to repair a torn anterior capsule in his right shoulder last May. The Mets can't count on him for anything given his lengthy injury history, but he could be a factor at some point this season.
