Sun Apr 14 201313:47Kyle Blanks recalled
Padres recalled OF/1B Kyle Blanks from Triple-A Tucson.
With Carlos Quentin likely to begin serving his suspension on Monday, the Padres need some outfield depth. Blanks was batting .296/.424/.519 with a homer early on at Triple-A and should see a handful of starts in left field while Quentin is out.

Fri Mar 29 201323:23Padres option Kyle Blanks to Triple-A
Padres optioned OF/1B Kyle Blanks to Triple-A Tuscon.
The oft-injured 26-year-old slugger did everything in his power to earn a spot on the Padres' Opening Day roster, hitting .359/.442/.609 with three homers and 14 RBI in 64 at-bats on the spring. As long as he remains healthy, he'll likely mash at the Triple-A level and earn a promotion to serve as a backup outfielder and first baseman for the Padres. If he finds his way into everyday at-bats, owners in NL-only and deeper mixed leagues should surely take notice.

Sat Mar 9 201318:24Kyle Blanks hits second homer of spring
Kyle Blanks hit his second home run of the Cactus League in the Padres loss to the Rangers Saturday.
Blanks, 26, was once a top prospect for the Padres before injuries derailed his career. Now healthy, Blanks is making a push for a bench role with the team. The hulking Blanks has played both first base and corner outfield in his career.

Mon Mar 4 201319:43Kyle Blanks hits one out
Kyle Blanks blasted a solo homer and added a sac fly in Monday's loss to the Rangers.
The longball came off of Neal Cotts in the fifth inning. Blanks is kind of a forgotten man in San Diego, but he's crushing the ball so far this spring, batting .476 over his first 27 plate appearances. He's slated to open the year either on the bench or at Triple-A.

Mon Nov 19 201217:18Padres and Kyle Blanks avoid arbitration
Padres and OF/1B Kyle Blanks avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $605,000 contract.
Blanks was arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter. The former top prospect was limited to just four games with the Padres this season prior to undergoing surgery in late-April to repair the labrum in his left shoulder. The Padres already have their outfield in place while Yonder Alonso is locked in as the starter at first base, so Blanks could be trade bait this winter.

Wed Apr 25 201209:14Blanks undergoes left shoulder surgery
Kyle Blanks underwent season-ending surgery Tuesday to repair his left posterior labrum.
Blanks needs 4-6 months of recovery time, but should be ready for spring training. Still, this is yet another tough blow for the former top prospect. The 25-year-old has been limited to just 92 games at the big league level since slugging 10 homers and posting an .868 OPS over 172 plate appearances back in 2009.

Sun Apr 22 201214:46Blanks to have season-ending shoulder surgery
Kyle Blanks will have season-ending surgery to repair the labrum in his left shoulder.
He was placed on the disabled list on April 14 with what was deemed a shoulder strain at the time, but obviously there was more going on. Blanks missed the second half of 2010 and first half of 2011 following Tommy John surgery, and now he's looking at another lost season. He was once a top prospect and is still just 25, but his future is now looking cloudy.

Wed Mar 28 201214:10Blanks (shoulder) to take BP on Wednesday
Kyle Blanks (shoulder) is scheduled to take batting practice Wednesday.
Blanks hasn't appeared in a Cactus League game since March 18 due to a left shoulder impingement. He has made progress since receiving a cortisone shot last week, but it's possible he could begin the season on the disabled list. Jesus Guzman would likely get most of the playing time in left field under this scenario.

Mon Mar 26 201214:14Blanks (shoulder) could begin year on DL
Padres manager Bud Black said Monday that Kyle Blanks (shoulder) could begin the season on the disabled list.
He would join fellow left fielder Carlos Quentin on the shelf. "We're still trying to get a handle on it," Black said of Blank's left shoulder. The injury has sidelined the big man for a week. Blanks had a cortisone injection last Thursday and insists he is improving. Jesus Guzman seems likely to draw most starts in left as long as Quentin and Blanks are shelved.

Fri Mar 23 201217:51Blanks receives injection in left shoulder
Kyle Blanks is considered day-to-day after receiving an injection in his left shoulder.
Blanks hasn't played since Sunday due to a sore left shoulder, but it's apparently not serious. The 25-year-old is expected to share playing time with Jesus Guzman in left field while Carlos Quentin is on the mend following knee surgery.

Wed Mar 21 201200:21Kyle Blanks out with sore left shoulder
Kyle Blanks is expected to miss a few days with a sore left shoulder.
That's some pretty lousy timing in the wake of Carlos Quentin's knee surgery earlier this week. But assuming the issue is minor, Blanks remains a good bet to make the Opening Day roster and share playing time with Jesus Guzman in left field.

Thu Mar 8 201218:15Kyle Blanks goes deep
Kyle Blanks ripped a solo homer in Thursday's loss to the Giants.
The big man took Andrew Kown deep in the fourth inning. Blanks' name has kind of gotten lost in the shuffle after injury-shortened seasons in 2010 and 2011, but he's still only 25 and has some upside. He's currently slated for backup duty, but with the inconsistent Will Venable and the injury-prone Carlos Quentin ahead of him on the depth chart, he could work his way into some playing time.

Blanks' only hit of the night came off Matt Cain in the second inning. The home run was his third in four games, and sixth of the month of August. He's turned in four consecutive multi-RBI efforts. Blanks is worth starting in all formats right now.

Kyle Blanks hit a two-run homer off Chris Volstad to help the Padres beat the Marlins 4-3 on Friday.

Sun Jul 24 201116:54Blanks, Pads lose to Phils
Kyle Blanks went 1-for-3 with a run scored, walk and two strikeouts in San Diego's loss to the Phillies on Sunday.
Blanks is now 2-for-9 with four strikeouts since returning to the big leagues on Thursday. An inauspicious start, but his power potential should keep him in your lineup in weekly NL-only leagues and deeper mixed formats for the time being.
