Mike Carp (foot) was placed in a walking boot after fracturing his foot. |
Carp will be in the boot for a week, followed by at least another week of rehab before he begins baseball activities. "We're still a little ways away before he's back to us," said manager John Farrell. Daniel Nava has been recalled from Triple-A Pawtuckett and should split time with Brock Holt at first base in Carp's absence, at least until Mike Napoli (finger) returns. |

Thu May 15 2014 | 16:53 | Mike Carp goes 2-for-4 against Twins |
Making his first start since May 4, Mike Carp went 2-for-4 and drove in a run on Thursday. |
Even with Daniel Nava gone, the Red Sox have found no room for Carp in their lineup or even really off the bench; he's made just two pinch-hitting appearances in three weeks. He's certainly deserving of more action, and perhaps the Red Sox will begin playing him a bit more in left field if Jackie Bradley Jr. stays cold. |

Sat Apr 12 2014 | 16:16 | Mike Carp plates two runs in loss to Yankees |
Mike Carp went 1-for-4 and drove home a pair of runs in Saturday's loss to the Yankees. |
Carp lined a two-run single off Matt Thornton in the seventh inning that pulled the Red Sox to within 6-4, but that would be as close as they'd come. He was also thrown out inexplicably attempting to steal, ending the Red Sox rally in the seventh. While he has considerable power, his fantasy value is limited to AL-only formats unless he starts to receive consistent playing time. |

Carp could be a nice addition for either team as a platoon option at first base. The 27-year-old is coming off a nice year off the bench for the Red Sox, having batted .296/.362/.523 with nine home runs and 43 RBI across 86 games. He was arbitration-eligible for the first time this offseason. |

Sun Feb 23 2014 | 16:28 | Mike Carp working at third base in spring |
Mike Carp will work at third base this spring in an effort to improve his versatility. |
It's a wise move on Carp's part, as the Red Sox are lacking overall depth at the position and it could lead to additional at-bats for him. He had brief exposure to the position in the low minors nearly 10 years ago, but fully believes he'll be able to handle the hot corner defensively. |

The home run was his first pinch homer of the season in 16 pinch-hit at-bats. Carp has played sparingly for the Red Sox this season but the homer was his ninth in 188 at-bats. It's a wonder that the Sox haven't found more ways to get his bat in the lineup, as he's now hitting .314/.374/.564 on the year. |

Mike Carp was ejected from Friday's game against the Yankees for arguing a called third strike. |
Carp was pinch-hitting for Will Middlebrooks. This ejection was certainly warranted, as Carp was very fired up, slammed his helmet to the ground and gestured angrily at home plate umpire Bill Welke. |
