You can't make this stuff up, people. Liddi, who was recently cut from his Venezuelan Winter League team, was let go after going 0-for-7 with three strikeouts and four errors in just three games with Leones del Escojido. It's not known whether he'll return home for the remainder of the offseason or attempt to latch on elsewhere. |

Liddi went 6-for-44 (.161) with a .519 OPS during his time in Venezuela. "He had some struggles down there and it's tough for a real young kid in those leagues,'' Mariners GM Jack Zduriencik said Thursday. "When you get off to a slow start, they often like to make changes and go with more experienced players." Liddi is expected to open the 2012 season at Triple-A Tacoma. |

Thu Sep 29 2011 | 02:02 | Liddi doubles in loss |
Alex Liddi's double was one of just two Mariners hits in Wednesday's season-ending loss to the A's. |
Tonight's effort was nothing if not fitting for the Mariners, who will finish the year with a major-league low 556 runs. That's just 43 more than they scored in a 2010 many considered the worst offensive season of the DH era. As for Liddi, he'll finish his first major league cup of coffee with a .225/.295/.525 triple slash posted in 44 plate appearances. He should begin 2012 in Triple-A. |

The Mariners will call up third baseman Alex Liddi from Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday. |
Liddi will be the first player from the MLB European Academy to make the major leagues. The 23-year-old Italian native batted .258/.332/.478 with 28 home runs and 101 RBI over 632 plate appearances at the Triple-A level this season.
