Working his way back from July Tommy John surgery, McPherson is currently soft-tossing and throwing from 120 feet. He expects to be ready to start throwing fastballs on flat ground later this week before progressing to mound work next month. The 26-year-old is hoping he can make an impact with the Pirates sometime after the All-Star break. |

He also received a spring training invite. Earlier this winter, Pittsburgh designated McPherson for assignment and then released him. Having found the free market to be no more forgiving of a pitcher on the mend, McPherson returns home.
