According to Rob Rains of STLSportspage.com, top prospect Oscar Taveras is en route to joining the Cardinals and expected to be recalled from Triple-A Memphis on Saturday. |

While he may not light the world on fire initially at the major league level, he is immediately relevant in all mixed leagues. |

Thu May 22 2014 | 12:15 | Taveras could 'possibly' be called up June 4 |
Cardinals GM John Mozeliak said Wednesday that Oscar Taveras could "possibly" be called up when the club begins a stretch in American League parks on June 4. |
St. Louis will visit the Royals, Blue Jays, then Rays in a seven-game road trip from June 4-11. That means that the DH spot will be available, and the Cardinals could cycle Allen Craig and Matt Adams through that role while offering Taveras starts in right field. The 21-year-old top prospect is batting .390/.422/.585 over his last 10 games at Triple-A Memphis and has 85 total bases in 42 total games this season in the Pacific Coast League. He's worth stashing right now in standard fantasy formats. |

Tue May 6 2014 | 08:33 | Cardinals OF prospect Taveras rips three hits |
Cardinals outfield prospect Oscar Taveras bounced back from his first hitless game since April 12, going 3-for-6 on Monday with two doubles. |
He is hitting .312/.364/.514 for the season, and it is only a matter of time before he forces his way onto the Cardinals roster and takes over in center field, displacing the Bourjos/Jay/Grichuk triumvirate. He is a "must own" for keeper and dynasty leagues, and should be stashed soon for redraft leagues. |

Mon May 5 2014 | 18:59 | Mozeliak: Taveras needs more work in CF |
Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said Monday that outfield prospect Oscar Taveras is currently "average at best" in center field. |
It's not surprising, as the feeling across the board has been that Taveras is more suited for a corner outfield spot. However, Mozeliak also noted that Taveras will continue to see plenty of time in center at Triple-A Memphis and could force his way onto the big league roster. Taveras is coming, but he just might not arrive as soon as hoped. It's still a good bet that we'll see him after the Super Two deadline passes in late May/early June. |

With the promotion of Randal Gruchuk, Taveras is unlikely to get called up before the Super 2 date passes in early June. He has been alternating between left field and center field for the past five games, but with Grichuk in St. Louis, Taveras could become the center fielder in Memphis until his promotion. |

Mon Apr 28 2014 | 13:35 | Taveras extends hitting streak with home run |
Cardinals prospect OF Oscar Taveras extended his hitting streak to 11 games Sunday, going 2-for-4 with a home run at Triple-A Memphis. |

During his current 11-game hitting streak, the 21-year-old outfielder is batting .342 with two home runs. But Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak -- who is in Memphis this week -- says the club is just being cautious with its top outfield prospect. Taveras missed most of the 2013 season due to right ankle issues. He should make his major league debut at some point this summer. |

Cardinals prospect outfielder Oscar Taveras left Monday's game with Triple-A Memphis due to an issue with his left ankle. |
It's worth noting that Taveras had surgery on his right ankle last year, so at least he didn't aggravate the condition. No word yet on how long he'll be sidelined, but it's still a tough break considering the recent buzz about a potential call-up. |

Mon Apr 21 2014 | 19:38 | Oscar Taveras getting first 2014 start in CF |
Cardinals outfield prospect Oscar Taveras is making his first start of the season in center field for Triple-A Memphis Monday. |
Taveras is hitting .297/.348/.500 with three homers and 12 RBI for Memphis this season, which includes a .368/.415/.526 line over his last 10 games. The Cards had been keeping the top prospect in the outfield corners, but it's clear that his surgically-repaired right ankle is feeling well enough for him to try center field again. With Peter Bourjos and Jon Jay sharing center field with the big club, Taveras could potentially force a promotion if he keeps hitting and shows he's comfortable in center. |

This could be a product of all of the time he missed due to injury, so keep an eye on his strikeout rate. |

Tue Mar 25 2014 | 13:27 | Taveras tweaks leg in minors game |
Cardinals prospect outfielder Oscar Taveras will held out of action for at least one day after he slipped coming out of the batter's box during a minor league game on Monday and appeared to be favoring his right leg. |
Taveras had right ankle surgery last year and has been bothered by right hamstring tightness this spring, so the Cardinals don't want to take any chances. The 21-year-old has a world of talent, but he just needs to stay on the field. |
