Mon Jun 23 201420:06Erlin two weeks away from mound work
Robbie Erlin (elbow) said Monday that he's about two weeks away from throwing off a mound.
Erlin resumed throwing a week ago, long-tossing from 110 feet on Monday in his most recent session. The left-hander has been out since mid-May with left elbow soreness and is probably looking at the end of July before he can realistically rejoin the Padres' rotation.

Mon Jun 16 201420:54Erlin (elbow) to resume throwing Tuesday
Robbie Erlin will resume a throwing program Tuesday after the latest MRI on his left elbow came back clean.
It's obviously good news, but Erlin is still three weeks away from rehab games. The left-hander has been out since mid-May with left elbow soreness but should be able to rejoin the Padres' rotation around the All-Star break if all goes well.

Robbie Erlin, who injured his elbow in mid-May, underwent a second elbow MRI on Friday.
No determination has been made about when he will be able to resume throwing. Erlin remains out indefinitely.

Thu Jun 12 201410:04Robbie Erlin to have follow-up MRI on elbow
Robbie Erlin is expected to have a follow-up MRI on his sore left elbow this week.
Erlin has been on the disabled list since mid-May with elbow discomfort. "He was examined, and I think they want to have one more MRI, one more look to compare it to where he was like three weeks ago when they did it the last time," manager Bud Black said Wednesday. "So they're going to compare that and then see if he's good to go as far as getting back on a throwing program." Erlin was only expected to miss a couple of starts, but he remains sidelined indefinitely.

Thu May 22 201418:11Robbie Erlin (elbow) placed on disabled list
Padres placed LHP Robbie Erlin on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 18, with left elbow soreness.
It's not clear when Erlin began feeling the soreness, as he spun 6 1/3 scoreless innings in his previous start over the weekend. The Padres haven't said how long the left-hander will be sidelined or if he'll undergo any additional tests. The club will need to call up a starter for Friday.

Sun May 11 201422:38Erlin shuts out Marlins for 6 1/3 in victory
Robbie Erlin held the Marlins scoreless for 6 1/3 innings in the Padres' 5-4 win on Sunday.
Erlin allowed just five hits -- one for extra bases -- while striking out seven in the win. He scuffled to start the year, but Erlin has now registered three straight quality starts. He lowered his ERA to 4.22 with a 1.24 WHIP in 42 2/3 innings. The southpaw has a tough draw his next time out, taking on the Rockies in Colorado on Saturday.

Wed May 7 201401:29Erlin holds KC to 3 hits, 1 run, in 7 innings
Robbie Erlin limited the Royals to one run in seven innings in Tuesday's no-decision.
Outside of Salvador Perez's sixth inning solo homer, the Royals did nothing against Erlin, managing two other hits and striking out five times. It was the 23-year-old southpaw's finest performance of the young season. Erlin didn't have complete command of his impressive arsenal, however, walking four, the first time this season he's issued more than three free passes (and just the third time in six starts he's walked more than one). Erlin (1-4, 4.95 ERA, 1.32 WHIP) plays host to the surprising Marlins on Sunday.

Thu May 1 201400:34Erlin takes loss against Hudson and Giants
Robbie Erlin surrendered three runs on eight hits over 6 1/3 innings in a loss to the Giants on Wednesday.
The 23-year-old ran into Tim Hudson, or he may have pitched well enough to win. Erlin whiffed five, issued one free pass, and gave up a solo homer to Brandon Hicks. He was blitzed for eight runs last time out against the Nationals, but Erlin hasn't been awful outside of that. Certainly not as bad as his 1-4 record, 5.83 ERA and 1.40 WHIP suggest. Erlin toes the rubber against Kansas City in Petco next week.

Sat Apr 26 201400:04Erlin blasted in loss to Nationals
Robbie Erlin was hammered for eight runs over 5 1/3 innings in a loss to the Nationals on Friday.
Ouch. Erlin couldn't dig himself out of an early hole, as he allowed two runs in the first inning and four more in the third. All told, he gave up 13 hits and two walks before being pulled in the bottom of the sixth inning. The young left-hander has now allowed 17 runs in two career starts against the Nationals. He'll attempt to turn the page next week against the Giants in San Francisco.

Sun Apr 20 201420:51Erlin allows four runs in loss against Giants
Robbie Erlin allowed four runs over six innings in a loss to the Giants on Sunday.
Erlin allowed just three hits, but two of those -- a Buster Posey home run and an Angel Pagan single -- accounted for all four of the Giants' runs against him. The southpaw also walked three while striking out three. The setback leaves him at 1-2 with a 4.15 ERA heading into Friday's start against the Nationals in Washington, D.C.

Wed Apr 16 201401:41Erlin takes loss despite whiffing 7 Rockies
Robbie Erlin fanned seven but lasted only 4 2/3 innings in Tuesday's 3-2 loss against the Rockies.
He coughed up three runs on six hits and a walk. During Erlin's last frame, home plate umpire Jeff Nelson's strike zone drew the ire of San Diego hitting coach Phil Plantier, who was promptly kicked out of the game. Erlin, 1-1 with a 3.18 ERA and 0.97 WHIP, has an impressive 14/1 K/BB rate over his first 11 1/3 innings. The 23-year-old southpaw faces Tim Lincecum and the Giants in San Diego on Sunday.

Wed Apr 9 201419:30Erlin throws six good innings to beat Indians
Robbie Erlin limited the Indians to one run in six innings as the Padres took the second half of Wednesday's doubleheader.
It was the first start of the season for the 23-year-old left-hander, who won the final spot in the Padres' rotation with an impressive spring. He yielded only four hits and struck out six batters without issuing a walk. Erlin could be a decent option this year in deeper mixed fantasy leagues. He faces the Rockies next.

Wed Mar 26 201421:03Robbie Erlin wins job as Padres' 5th starter
Robbie Erlin will start the season as the Padres' fifth starter, according to Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports.
Erlin won the job over Matt Wisler with a strong spring, posting a 1.46 ERA and 12/3 K/BB ratio over 12 1/3 innings. The left-hander may only be needed until Josh Johnson returns from a strained flexor tendon in May, but a strong showing could make it a tough decision for the team.

Mon Mar 24 201416:20Erlin likely to replace Johnson in rotation
Padres general manager Josh Byrnes said on The Mighty 1090 Sports Radio in San Diego on Monday that Robbie Erlin is likely to replace Josh Johnson (flexor muscle) in the starting rotation.
Padres manager Bud Black said over the weekend that Matt Wisler was also in the mix, but Erlin is the logical candidate with Johnson out for at least one month with a strained flexor muscle in his right forearm. The 23-year-old posted a 4.12 ERA and 40/15 K/BB ratio over 54 2/3 innings with the big club last season and is worth a look in NL-only fantasy leagues.

Sun Mar 23 201414:11Report: Pads not looking for SP reinforcement
The Padres don't plan to bring in outside help for pitching help to replace Josh Johnson in the rotation, reports Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune.
Padres skipper Bud Black told the media on Sunday that Robbie Erlin and Matt Wisler are the leading candidates to replace Johnson, out five weeks due to a strained flexor tendon in his forearm, in the rotation. The 23-year-old Erlin collected a 4.12 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 40/15 K/BB ratio in 54 2/3 innings with the club in 2013. Wisler is an elite prospect, but owners should temper their expectations of a golden arm that probably needs another year to marinate on the farm. Both pitchers should be taken in any NL-only draft conducted today.

Sun Mar 23 201413:46Erlin, Wisler leading race for Johnson's spot
Padres manager Bud Black said Sunday that Robbie Erlin and Matt Wisler are the leading candidates to replace Josh Johnson in the rotation.
Johnson went down for five weeks due to a strained flexor tendon in his forearm on Saturday, clearing a path for one of the two young pitchers to make the Opening Day rotation. Both are highly regarded prospects within the system -- Erlin threw 54 2/3 innings for the Padres last year, while Wisler rated as the No. 47 prospect in baseball by Baseball Prospectus earlier this spring. Either player would be an interesting flyer in NL-only leagues.

Sun Mar 2 201417:53Robbie Erlin allows one run in spring debut
Robbie Erlin allowed one run on a pair of hits over two innings in his Cactus League debut against the Dodgers on Sunday.
Erlin also walked a batter and didn't record a strikeout. The 23-year-old is in camp competing for a spot in the Padres Opening Day rotation after posting a 4.12 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 40/15 K/BB ratio in 54 2/3 innings with the club in 2013. Should he solidify a spot, he's well worthy of a late round selection in most mixed leagues.

Sat Nov 30 201315:31Padres could deal Erlin or Smith for offense
Bill Center of the San Diego Union Tribune believes that the Padres will soon trade Robbie Erlin, Burch Smith or Eric Stults in exchange for a left-handed bat.
Padres general manager Josh Byrnes admitted Saturday that the team was in a number of "productive discussions". He also stated the team's struggles against right-handed pitching and noted that by the end of the Winter Meetings something would be done. The Padres appear to have an excess of starting pitching, which would make one of their young arms expendable for an offensive upgrade.

Thu Sep 26 201322:09Robbie Erlin strikes out seven Diamondbacks
Robbie Erlin pitched seven innings of two-run ball Thursday against the Diamondbacks.
Another strong effort from Erlin; he allowed a total of seven runs in five starts after rejoining the rotation at the end of August. That should get him penciled into next year's rotation, and he'll be quite the sleeper pick in fantasy leagues. We could see him turning into a solid mixed-league starter right away.

Sat Sep 21 201302:02Robbie Erlin combines on shutout of Dodgers
Robbie Erlin blanked the Dodgers for 7 2/3 innings, striking out seven, in the Padres' 2-0 win Friday.
Thanks to the fact that the Dodgers clinched Thursday, Erlin tonight got to face a lineup absent any of the team's top four outfielders or top five infielders. The Dodgers even had light-hitting catcher Drew Butera play first base for the first time in his career. Erlin has looked good this month, giving up just five runs in four starts since rejoining the rotation. This wasn't much of a test tonight, though.
