Erlin (0-1) had a forgettable season debut Saturday, giving up seven earned runs on nine hits and a walk while striking out two in a 10-2 loss to the Rockies.

Erlin certainly didn't have favorable odds entering Saturday's match-up; the left-hander pitched to a 5.60 ERA in Triple-A El Paso, only to make his season debut at Coors Field. After starting off the fourth inning by giving up back-to-back hits to Kyle Parker and the opposing pitcher, Erlin's night came to an end after just 55 pitches. While Erlin may receive another start for the non-competitive Padres, his outing Saturday didn't do much to inspire confidence within fantasy owners.

Erlin will start Saturday in Coors Field, the Union-Tribune's Dennis Lin reports.

It is not clear how many starts Erlin will make for the Padres down the stretch, but his first outing certainly doesn't look like an appealing fantasy matchup, given the ballpark. Erlin has a 4.37 ERA in 111.1 innings as a big league starter.

Erlin was called up by the Padres on Monday, Corey Brock of MLB.com reports.

With the Padres out of the playoff race, Erlin could benefit from some developmental time on the mound as the season comes to an end. Although, he's spent his entire season at Triple-A El Paso where he's compiled a lackluster ERA of 5.60 after 24 starts with just 105 strikeouts during that time span.

Erlin allowed five earned runs on eight hits over five innings of work Thursday at Triple-A El Paso. He notched five strikeouts against just one walk.

Erlin's strikeout capabilities have been on display this season as he's K'd at least five batters in four of his last ten starts despite never throwing more than six innings. He has been hittable, however, allowing 6.6 hits per outing over his last ten starts. As a result, Erlin's ERA is sitting at 5.77 on the year.

Erlin was optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Sunday, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Erlin was competing for the fifth spot in the Padres' rotation in 2015, but was believed to be behind both Brandon Morrow and Odrisamer Despaigne on that front. That was confirmed Sunday, as the south paw was optioned to Triple-A and should begin the season there in the rotation.

Erlin is positioned to compete for one of the final two spots in the Padres' rotation during spring training, the team's official site reports.

Brandon Morrow and Odrisamer Despaigne are believed to be the frontrunners for the available spots, but Erlin has a higher ceiling than Despaigne and Morrow's difficulty staying healthy in recent seasons should serve as a reminder that he's hardly a lock to hold a spot all season. Erlin missed time in 2014 with a sore left elbow, which limited him to just 61.1 innings with the big club.

Erlin allowed four runs on four hits and two walks while striking out one in 1.2 innings in the Padres' 9-3 loss to the Giants on Sunday.

It was the second-shortest appearance he's had this season. Despite allowing four hits, the four runs are the most he's let up since May 17. He's let up six runs in four appearances in September.

Erlin pitched just four innings, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks, while striking out two in a no-decision Tuesday against the Rockies.

Filling in for Tyson Ross, who has been shut down for the year, Erlin did ok in limited innings Tuesday, but not nearly enough for people who were counting on him in a two-start week. He now has a 4.53 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 45:13 K:BB in 59.2 innings. He'll get one more start this Sunday, as he'll take on the Giants on the road.

Padres manager Bud Black said Erlin has probably earned another start, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Called upon Thursday to make a spot start in place of Tyson Ross (elbow), Erlin held the Phillies to one run on five hits over six innings to improve to 4-4 on the season. It was Erlin's first start since May 17, as he missed close to four months with an elbow issue. While nothing's official, it sounds like Erlin may also start Tuesday at home against the Rockies, though it does not necessarily mean Ross won't toe the rubber again this season.

Erlin (4-4) delivered six strong innings Thursday in a win over visiting Philadelphia, striking out four and allowing just a run on five hits.

Erling got the ball in Tyson Ross's place for his first start as a Padre since way back on May 17. If he holds onto the rotation spot for the remaining week-plus, Erlin could have two starts left to go.

Erlin will start for the Padres on Thursday against the Phillies, MLB.com reports.

Erlin hasn't seen any usage out of the bullpen since Sept. 7, so manager Bud Black decided to give him a spot start, pushing all of the Padres' other rotation members back a day. The 23-year-old has yet to cash in on the promise that made him one of the Padres' top pitching prospects entering last season, as he owns a 4.89 ERA and 1.34 WHIP over 49.2 innings this season.

Erlin made his first major league appearance since May 17 on Sunday, giving up three runs on five hits and no walks with no strikeouts in two innings at Colorado.

Before landing on the DL in late May due to a sore left elbow, Erlin was similarly hit around by the Rockies in Coors Field (four runs in five frames). On Sunday, he entered in the seventh and yielded three flyballs, including a Nolan Arenado two-run shot, versus two groundballs to 10 batters faced. Because he posted a 5.87 ERA and 1.74 WHIP in six minor league rehab starts prior to his recall when rosters expanded, Erlin may not be considered for a spot nod during the stretch run, instead settling for relief outings.

Erlin will be called up from Triple-A El Paso on Monday, the Associated Press reports.

Erlin, who recently returned from the DL, has split the season between Triple-A, Double-A San Antonio and the Padres' rookie league team in Arizona. In six total starts (23.0 innings), the 23-year-old has a 5.87 ERA with 15 earned runs and 23 strikeouts.

Erlin (elbow) was reinstated from the 60-day DL Monday and optioned to Triple-A El Paso.

He was placed on the DL back in May with elbow soreness, but has now made four rehab starts at various levels of the Padres' minor league system, posting a 2.92 ERA with 15 strikeouts and four walks. The Padres aren't in contention, but we wouldn't rule out Erlin making a few starts with the big league club in September if he proves to be pitching well at Triple-A.

Erlin yielded two runs on six hits and one walk to go with five strikeouts in five innings during a rehab start Sunday at Double-A San Antonio.

Erlin's previous appearance was wiped away by a rainout, but after tossing 63 strikes in the 81-pitch performance, he's carrying a 3.48 ERA, 1.55 WHIP, and 10 strikeouts in 10.1 innings across three games at the affiliate. Even though he's approaching the completion of the assignment, his activation from the DL may not result in an immediate spot in the Padres' rotation. However, Odrisamer Despaigne's recent struggles (5.88 ERA, 1.769 WHIP, and 20:12 K:BB in 26 innings in his last five starts) could provide the opening required for Erlin to land in majors.

Erlin (elbow) struck out one and walked one while giving up three hits over 2.1 scoreless innings Friday at Double-A San Antonio, Jeff Sanders of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

If all goes as planned, Erlin will return to the San Diego rotation in approximately two weeks. He threw 42 pitches (25 strikes) in Friday's start, and will likely need two or three more rehab appearances before he's ready to be activated.

Elbow soreness forced Erlin to the DL in late May, but he's been cleared to pitch for San Antonio after a successful stint with the team's rookie-level affiliate. He may be ready to contribute by the middle of August.

The move clears space on the 40-man roster for Irving Falu, who was claimed off waivers. Erlin, who is making his way back from elbow soreness, will resume throwing from a mound in early July.
