McGowan has been tabbed as the starting pitcher for Thursday's game against the Marlins, Stephen Gross of the Morning Call reports. |
Sean O'Sullivan had been lined up to make his third start of the season Thursday, but the Phillies placed him on the disabled list with a knee injury. McGowan will take over in his stead the first time around and could be a candidate to earn more starts for the time being until the starting rotation returns to full health. |

The Phillies are expected to use McGowan in a relief role, the team's official site reports. |
McGowan signed with the Phillies on Saturday after getting released by the Dodgers last week. He will likely see most of his work in the middle innings. |
Sat Apr 4 2015 | 20:41 | McGowan has agreed to deal with Philadelphia |
McGowan has agreed to a deal with Philadelphia, ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports. |

Tue Mar 31 2015 | 14:44 | McGowan released by Dodgers on Tuesday |
McGowan was released by the Dodgers on Tuesday, Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register reports. |
McGowan had signed on with the Dodgers on a one-year deal with the opportunity to crack the big league bullpen out of spring training, but struggled to the tune of a 6.75 ERA and 1.63 WHIP in seven Cactus League appearances. The 33-year-old will likely be able to land on his feet somewhere on a minor league contract at the very least but it's possible his 2015 campaign won't begin in the majors. |
Mon Feb 23 2015 | 09:48 | McGowan has signed one-year deal with Dodgers |
McGowan has signed a one-year deal with the Dodgers. |
The move was announced Monday morning, while the Dodgers placed Brandon Beachy on the 60-day DL in a corresponding transaction. McGowan will likely compete for a bullpen job with the Dodgers this spring, as he's made 70 of his last 78 big league appearances as a reliever. |
Sat Nov 1 2014 | 14:39 | The Blue Jays declined team option on McGowan for 2015 |
The Blue Jays declined the team option on McGowan for 2015, SB Nation's Chris Cotillo reports. |
Toronto would have had to pony up $4 million to keep McGowan for 2015, and considering he hasn't logged more than 82 innings since 2008, the 32-year-old righty certainly isn't worth that much. He might be given a chance a rotation spot from another team, but he's probably best suited as a long reliever. |

McGowan scattered a walk and a hit while recording the final three outs of Saturday's game to pick up the victory in relief against Tampa Bay. |
The game was completed under protest, leaving McGowan vulnerable to losing his win if the Rays' protest is successful. If it stands, the victory is McGowan's fifth of the season, as he continues to work as a middle reliever for the Jays. |
Fri Jun 13 2014 | 22:31 | McGowan notches first career save |
Dustin McGowan recorded five outs for his first career save Friday against the Orioles. |
McGowan entered the game with two on and two outs and got Chris Davis to strike out swinging and Nelson Cruz to ground out to end the threat. He worked around a single from Manny Machado in the ninth inning to lock down the victory. McGowan has allowed just one run in 13 1/3 innings since being moved to the bullpen in mid-May. |

Wed May 14 2014 | 23:05 | McGowan gives up 4 ER in 4 IP, earns loss |
Dustin McGowan fell to 2-2 following Wednesday's start against the Indians, allowing four runs over four innings of work. |
McGowan allowed nine hits, walked two, and struck out three in the effort. He has been unreliable in the rotation, now sitting with a 5.08 ERA and 1.62 WHIP. The Jays' bullpen didn't help matters, allowing 11 runs in the five innings after he exited the game. Prospect Marcus Stroman, hoping a spot opens up in the rotation, allowed five of those runs, which may give McGowan a tiny amount of extra breathing room. If McGowan gets another crack at it, he'll face the Red Sox on the road next. |

Fri May 9 2014 | 23:11 | Dustin McGowan gives up two runs to Angels |
Dustin McGowan pitched five innings and allowed two runs Friday against the Angels. |
McGowan was decent, but the Blue Jays are just postponing the inevitable by keeping him in the rotation and putting Marcus Stroman in the bullpen. Those two should switch roles before long. |

Sun May 4 2014 | 16:35 | McGowan goes seven strong to beat Pirates |
Dustin McGowan tossed seven innings of one-run ball in the Blue Jays' win over the Pirates on Sunday. |
McGowan has been pitching for his job over his last two starts and has performed admirably under the circumstances, allowing three earned runs in 13 innings. Marcus Stroman is up in the majors now and will be breathing down McGowan's neck for a crack at a rotation spot. |

Thu May 1 2014 | 17:36 | McGowan to make next scheduled start |
Dustin McGowan will make his next scheduled start Sunday against the Pirates. |
McGowan has been inconsistent so far this season, but he allowed just two runs over six innings last time out against the Orioles, so the Blue Jays aren't ready to pull the plug just yet. Still, top prospect Marcus Stroman has been lined up to start on the same day as him in Triple-A and it's likely just a matter of time before he takes his place in the rotation. |

Thu Apr 24 2014 | 16:41 | McGowan will remain in rotation |
Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said Thursday that Dustin McGowan will make his next scheduled start. |
McGowan gave up six runs in four-plus innings Wednesday against the Orioles and now holds a 6.88 ERA through four starts. The oft-injured 31-year-old has admitted that he's dealing with a bit of fatigue, so he might not be long for the rotation if he continues to struggle. On a related note, Gibbons has considered the possibility of using a sixth starter to give the rotation some extra rest. |

Wed Apr 23 2014 | 23:32 | Dustin McGowan gives up six runs to O's |
Dustin McGowan was tagged for six runs in four-plus innings by the Orioles on Wednesday. |
McGowan says he's healthy, but he talked after the game about hitting a wall after 60-65 pitches. If it continues, the Jays might figure they're better off with him in the bullpen. He's currently carrying a 6.88 ERA through four starts. |

Thu Apr 17 2014 | 23:26 | Dustin McGowan lasts four innings vs. Twins |
Dustin McGowan yielded three runs in four innings Thursday in a no-decision against the Twins. |
McGowan walked four tonight. He was terrific against the Orioles last week, but he's been ineffective in his other two starts to date. Given the likelihood of an injury down the line, he doesn't have much value in AL-only leagues. |

Fri Apr 11 2014 | 21:48 | McGowan notches first win in MLB since 2008 |
Dustin McGowan tossed 6 1/3 innings of shutout ball in a 2-0 win over the Orioles on Friday night. |
The win was his first in the majors since June 22, 2008. McGowan held the Orioles to just five hits (four of them singles) and one walk while hitting two batters. He notched two strikeouts. Who knows how long he'll hold up, but he's a really easy story to root for. |

Wed Mar 26 2014 | 09:47 | McGowan named Blue Jays' fifth starter |
Dustin McGowan has been named the Blue Jays' fifth starter. |
He'll join R.A. Dickey, Drew Hutchison, Mark Buehrle, and Brandon Morrow in Toronto's rotation and will start the team's home opener. Meanwhile, J.A. Happ will begin the season on the disabled list due to a back injury. McGowan has only made four starts at the major league level since 2008 and remains a poor bet to stay healthy, but it will be an interesting story to follow at the very least. |

Tue Mar 25 2014 | 14:52 | McGowan throws in minor league game |
Dustin McGowan threw four innings Tuesday in a minor league game. |
McGowan, who is suddenly being stretched out as a starter for the pitching-hungry Blue Jays, said he felt "great" during the outing. The 32-year-old is a poor bet to stay healthy, but he could have the leg up on Todd Redmond for the final rotation spot. |

Sat Mar 22 2014 | 09:24 | McGowan could still be option for rotation |
Blue Jays manager John Gibbons indicated Saturday that the team's plan is still to stretch out Dustin McGowan to see if he could possibly handle a spot in the team's rotation. |
The Jays are severely hurting for starting pitching depth, and their back-end of the rotation looks questionable at best to begin the regular season. McGowan has always had talent, but has been unable to stay on the field, throwing a total of 46 2/3 innings since the 2008 end of the 2008 season. |

Thu Mar 20 2014 | 18:18 | McGowan to begin season in the bullpen |
Dustin McGowan will begin the season in the bullpen. |
McGowan successfully lobbied to be stretched out as a starter in spring training, but Toronto is apparently not willing to risk injury to the brittle right-hander by asking him to carry a starting load. The Blue Jays may elect to use him as a long reliever. "He's kind of in limbo there; we want to be able to stretch him out anyway," manager John Gibbons said when asked if McGowan had been eliminated from consideration for a starting spot. "If he's in the 'pen for multiple innings that would benefit us quite a bit down there. We know he can do two. If he can do three, that would do wonders for us." |
