Thu Jan 12 202318:16Francisco Alvarez, Brett Baty Will Have Shot To Make The Roster
New York Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez and third baseman Brett Baty will both be given a realistic chance to make the Opening Day roster out of spring training. But with more opportunity in left field this year, Alvarez likely has the better chance to begin the 2023 season in the big leagues. When it looked like shortstop Carlos Correa was signing with the Mets, the Miami Marlins were interested in trading for Baty and infielder Eduardo Escobar. Alvarez is considered the No. 1 prospect in baseball heading into the 2023 season, per MLB Pipeline, so it makes sense for him to have a pretty good shot at starting the year with the Mets. Baty is the team's No. 2 prospect. Alvarez (five games) and Baty (11 games) got their feet wet in the Show in 2022, but they should both see much more playing time this year and are considered key future pieces in Queens.

Mon Oct 3 202213:43Brett Baty Cleared For Baseball Activities
New York Mets rookie third baseman Brett Baty (thumb) has been cleared for baseball activities and has been hitting flips. He's scheduled to progress to hitting off a machine soon, and this Thursday marks five weeks since his right thumb surgery to fix a torn UCL. The 22-year-old will not be able to make it back for the final three games of the regular season, and it remains to be seen if he'll be able to rejoin the team for their postseason run. He had played in just 11 major-league games before his injury, going 7-for-38 (.184) with two home runs, five RBI and four runs scored. Veteran Eduardo Escobar has been manning the hot corner for the Mets with Baty injured, but Baty could be a nice power option for the Mets in the playoffs if he can avoid any setbacks.

Wed Aug 31 202218:44Brett Baty To Have Surgery On Torn UCL In Thumb
New York Mets rookie third baseman Brett Baty (thumb) is dealing with a UCL tear in his right thumb and will undergo surgery on Thursday that will likely end most, if not all, of the rest of his 2022 season. It's a tough break for the Mets and the 22-year-old after he was recently called up to the big leagues for the first time. He struggled at the plate in his first 11 games, going 7-for-38 (.184) with two home runs, five RBI, four runs scored and eight strikeouts. Baty was the team's No. 2 prospect this year, per MLB Pipeline, and he has a bright future ahead of him in Queens. Eduardo Escobar should see the majority of playing time at the hot corner for the Mets with Baty out of the picture, at least until Luis Guillorme returns from a left groin strain.

Wed Aug 31 202216:10Brett Baty Starting On The Bench Against Dodgers
New York Mets rookie third baseman Brett Baty (thumb) is not in the starting lineup on Wednesday against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Baty also missed Tuesday's contest with a thumb injury. Fantasy managers should consider the 22-year-old day-to-day for now. The left-handed slugger has gotten off to a slow start in his first 11 major league contests, going 7-for-38 (.184) with two homers, five RBI, four runs scored and eight strikeouts, but he'll continue to be relevant in deep mixed leagues the rest of the way, as long as he continues to play regularly. Eduardo Escobar is starting at the hot corner and batting eighth against Dodgers left-hander Tyler Anderson. Escobar will be a deep DFS sleeper. He's hitting .242 (31-for-128) with six of his 12 home runs this year against lefties.

Wed Aug 31 202200:07Brett Baty Unavailable Tuesday With Minor Thumb Injury
New York Mets third baseman Brett Baty (thumb) was unavailable to pinch hit in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Dodgers due to a minor thumb injury he sustained over the weekend, per MLB.com's Anthony DiComo. The injury also explains his absence from the starting lineup, but it sounds as though he is merely day-to-day. The 22-year-old prospect has gotten off to a slow start since his call-up, slashing .184/.244/.342 with two home runs and five RBI in 42 plate appearances. He may not offer a ton of fantasy value right now in redraft leagues, but he is still worth plenty of attention down the stretch for fantasy managers in dynasty leagues.

Sat Aug 20 202210:59Brett Baty Hitting Eighth Against Phillies
New York Mets rookie third baseman Brett Baty is starting at third base and is batting eighth on Saturday against Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Zack Wheeler. It will be his fourth straight start after being called up earlier in the week. In his first major league at-bat, Baty homered, and he's gone 3-for-10 (.300) with the home runs, four RBI, one run scored, one walk and two strikeouts so far in 11 plate appearances. With both Luis Guillorme and Eduardo Escobar on the injured list due to injuries, the 22-year-old should continue to play every day for the Mets and should have already been scooped up in the majority of fantasy leagues.

Wed Aug 17 202216:29Brett Baty Batting Eighth In MLB Debut
The New York Mets have officially called up third base prospect Brett Baty from Triple-A. He will be in the starting lineup, batting eighth, in his MLB debut against right-hander Jake Odorizzi and the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday. With the team's primary third baseman Luis Guillorme (groin) on the injured list and backup third baseman Eduardo Escobar (oblique) dealing with an injury as well, Baty has a chance to see significant playing time over the next week or so. The 22-year-old slashed .312/.406/.544 with 19 home runs, 59 RBI and 73 runs at Double-A this year. Fantasy managers should monitor the youngster and he's worth a gamble if you need short term infield help in a deep league.

Tue Aug 16 202216:40Brett Baty To Be Called Up Wednesday
The New York Mets are expected to call up third base prospect Brett Baty ahead of Wednesday's game against the Atlanta Braves. The team recently lost primary third baseman Luis Guillorme (groin) to a groin injury and he is expected to miss three to four weeks. Meanwhile, the team's backup third baseman Eduardo Escobar (oblique) is dealing with an oblique injury and may require a stint on the injured list as well. Baty is ranked as the Mets' No. 2 overall prospect by MLB Pipeline. The 22-year-old has spent the bulk of the 2022 season at Double-A, where he slashed .312/.406/.544 with 19 home runs, 59 RBI and 73 runs. He was promoted to Triple-A about a week ago. He's not a high priority add for fantasy managers in season-long leagues but he's very much worth keeping an eye on.

Mon Aug 15 202215:40Brett Baty Could Be Recalled By Mets
The New York Mets haven't ruled out the possibility of promoting third base prospect Brett Baty, depending on infielder Luis Guillorme's (groin) MRI results on Monday. Mark Vientos, the club's No. 5 prospect per MLB Pipeline, hasn't been in the discussion for a call-up. Baty was just promoted to Triple-A Syracuse earlier this month and is the team's No. 2 prospect, per MLB Pipeline. The 22-year-old left-handed hitter batted .312/.406/.544 with a .950 OPS, 19 home runs, 59 RBI, 73 runs scored and two stolen bases in 89 games at Double-A Binghamton to earn a promotion, and he's gone 8-for-22 (.364) with an RBI and three runs scored in his first six games at Syracuse. Baty would be worth a look in single-year leagues if he gets a promotion and sees regular playing time at the hot corner in Queens.

Mon Aug 8 202211:25Mets Promote Brett Baty, Jose Butto To Triple-A
The New York Mets promoted third base prospect Brett Baty and pitching prospect Jose Butto from Double-A Binghamton to Triple-A Syracuse on Monday. Baty has a .950 OPS, 19 home runs and 59 RBI at Binghamton this year, while Butto has a 4.00 ERA and a 10.5 K/9 in 92 1/3 innings over 20 outings (18 starts). Baty, the team's No. 2 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, was slashing .312/.406/.544 with 73 runs scored and two stolen bases in 89 games. He has a smooth swing from the left side of the plate and appears to be developing more power as he matures. Butto, the team's No. 12 prospect, has a nice fastball-changeup combination. The right-hander also has a low-80s curveball.

Thu May 12 202207:49Brett Baty Hits Second Home Run For Double-A Binghamton
New York Mets third base prospect Brett Baty went 3-for-4 with three runs, one walk and a two-run home run for Double-A Binghamton on Wednesday. It was just the second home run of the year for the Mets first round pick in 2019. Despite the lack of power in early showing this season, Baty is hitting .283 with 11 doubles and eight RBI through 99 at-bats. The biggest issue for the third baseman in his young career is the fact that he hits a lot of balls on the ground, but that is a matter that the Mets are hoping will straighten out as Baty develops. For now, Baty remains a few years away from contributing at the big-league level and will continue to work on his craft. He is only a name for managers in dynasty leagues to keep tabs on at the moment.
