If he elects not to exercise the option, he'll remain in Brooklyn for just over $9.7 million next season. If he does exercise it, he'll hit the open market in hopes of securing a more lucrative, longer-term contract.

Young will be making his first start for Brooklyn this season. This move will ultimately push Alan Anderson out of the starting five, but Young is expected to play at power forward with Joe Johnson at small forward.

Young put together his second consecutive strong showing for the Nets. Over his last two games, he's gone a combined 14-for-23 from the field and 2-for-3 from the three-point line to score 34 points. His minutes have also continued to increase, as he becomes more and more acquainted with his new team. With how well he's playing, it wouldn't be surprising to see him crack the starting lineup in the near future, so his fantasy value could continue to rise.

Young made his Nets debut against the Lakers on Friday with 12 minutes off the bench. He finished with eight points (4-8 FG), four rebounds, one assist, and one steal.

Young saw well below his season average of 33 minutes per game Friday but there's nothing to be concerned about since he's still adjusting to his new team in Brooklyn. In fact, it may take another couple of games before Young is given a full workload. Additionally, it would be somewhat surprising if the 26-year-old didn't move into the starting lineup over Mason Plumlee in short order.

Young is available off the bench against the Lakers on Friday, Mike Trudell of TWC SportsNet reports.
