Thompson recorded four points (2-5 FG), seven rebounds, one assist, two steals, and two blocks with three turnovers in the victory over the Los Angeles Clippers Sunday. He played 37 minutes.
Thompson isn't going to light up the scoreboard on most nights but does contribute in other areas. If he continues to get 35-40 minutes per game he will be a useful fantasy play for his rebounds, blocks, and steals alone. Leave him on the waiver wire for now; just be ready to scoop him up if he does well against the Denver Nuggets on Monday.

Thompson had seven points (2-4 FG, 3-4 FT) and seven rebounds to go along with five turnovers in 21 minutes as the starter at power forward for the Kings in their loss to the Raptors on Sunday.
While Thompson was named the starter of the preseason game Sunday, it is too hard to tell if he'll keep the starting job going forward. Thompson was said to be having a great training camp, but Reggie Evans, Derrick Williams, and Carl Landry all played 21, 15, and 21 minutes coming off the bench Sunday. What this likely means is coach Mike Malone liked the improvement of Thompson this offseason and sees him as the best option right now, but the competition for the regular season starting role is still wide open. While nobody stood out with a great performance, two important things to note are Reggie Evans lead the team with 13 rebounds and Thompson lead with five turnovers. Thompson didn't attempt any three-pointers despite the fact that he worked on it this offseason.
Tue Sep 30 201418:02Thompson developed three-point shot in offseason
Thompson developed a three-point shot in the offseason, the Sacramento Bee reports.
Coach Mike Malone relayed the news Tuesday, which will be substantiated one way or the other once the preseason begins in earnest. With no proven touch from beyond the arc -- Thompson has merely knocked down 1-for-26 in his six-year career -- potential owners shouldn't bank on the 6-11, 250 forward suddenly draining treys on a consistent basis. That is, unless he proves to boast a prowess from deep.
Sun Jul 6 201414:35Kings look to thin out their glut of PFs
The Kings reportedly hope to trade one of their power forwards, while acquiring a big man who can defend the rim and block shots.
Sacramento has too many PFs on their roster, none of whom are intimidating defenders -- the group includes Jason Thompson, Carl Landry, Derrick Williams, Reggie Evans and Quincy Acy. Thompson said in May that the 2013-14 season was his most frustrating season in the NBA, and "wasn't even a fun year," so the Kings will likely at least try to unload the three years and $19.2 million remaining on his contract. Carl Landry's deal is no better, with three years and $20.3 million remaining, and Sacramento might have to package either player with more attractive assets to find a willing trade partner.

Fri May 16 201412:32Jason Thompson vents frustration w/ Kings
Jason Thompson said that the 2013-14 season was "definitely, hands down the most frustrating [season]."
"It wasn't even a fun year," Thompson said. "Just for the amount of shots, the type of rotations that we had - offensively and defensively ... Every other [big man] that's come in here, they've gotten traded for a reason. They come and they go. I don't think they want to go, but it just doesn't work. There's got to be a common denominator." Thompson is owed a guaranteed $12.4 million over the next two seasons, so Sacramento will either have to trade him or find a way to appease him.

Mon Apr 7 201410:12Kings coach calls out poor defensive effort
Kings coach Mike Malone implicitly called out Jason Thompson for a blown defensive assignment during Sunday's loss to the Mavericks.
"We've done an awful job [defending the three-point line] the whole year," Malone said. "Sometimes it's just the lack of communication that's breaking our rules of `No, we don't leave strong-side shooters open.' What did we do tonight? We give up a big three to Shawn Marion." Thompson was supposed to be defending Marion during the play in question, but instead he sagged deep into the paint and allowed his man to get wide open in the corner. The Kings have one of the worst defensive efficiency ratings in the NBA and it will be interesting to see how they address the issue during the offseason.

Sun Mar 9 201420:46Jason Thompson quiet in 24 minutes vs. Nets
Jason Thompson finished Sunday's defeat with four points, four rebounds, one assist, and zero steals or blocks in 24 minutes.
This is JT's fifth straight game with single-digit points, even though he's averaging a healthy 26 minutes in March. His scoring drought, on top of an inherent lack of versatility, makes him irrelevant in standard fantasy formats.

Thu Mar 6 201401:44Jason Thompson plays better Wednesday
Jason Thompson broke out of a funk on Wednesday, finishing with eight points, 13 rebounds and a block in 24 minutes of a win over the Bucks.
He had 17 points and 11 rebounds last Friday, but totaled just 11 points and seven rebounds in his three games surrounding it on Tuesday, Saturday and Monday. He's obviously hit or miss right now and is being challenged by Reggie Evans, who had 13 points and five boards off the bench tonight. But if you own JT, you might as well hold onto him after tonight's game.

Sun Mar 2 201400:47Jason Thompson invisible in loss
Jason Thompson started on Saturday, but it was hard to tell given the fact he had just two points, two rebounds and two steals in 29 minutes.
Thompson was hot coming in after going for 17 points and 11 rebounds last night against the Lakers, but he ran into serious problems against Kevin Love tonight. Thompson has been highly inconsistent all season and while he's always worth a look in most leagues, he's far from a must-own player.

Sat Mar 1 201401:19Thompson goes for 17 and 11 in no-D game
Jason Thompson scored 17 points on 8-of-12 shooting with 11 rebounds and one steal in Friday's loss to the Lakers.
Everybody got on the board in a big way and with DeMarcus Cousins out tonight there is nothing really to see here. The same goes for Reggie Evans (eight points, nine boards, three steals). Your grandmother would have double-doubled tonight.

Wed Feb 26 201401:35Jason Thompson plays just five minutes
Jason Thompson played just five minutes and had three points and no rebounds in Tuesday's ugly loss to the Rockets.
We've been hinting that Carl Landry is coming on and threatening JT's job and it may have happened tonight. However, Landry wasn't special, finishing with four points in just 10 minutes, while Reggie Evans had eight points and eight rebounds in 24 minutes. This game was over after the first quarter with the Kings up 42-17, so it's hard to figure out what might have been. But we would not be surprised to see Landry and Evans get more minutes than Thompson again on Friday against the Lakers. There were no reports of an injury to Thompson, so dropping him for a hot free agent seems to make sense.

Thu Feb 20 201402:49Jason Thompson quiet in loss to Warriors
Jason Thompson started again on Wednesday and spent a lot of time at center in the absence of DeMarcus Cousins (hip), but had just six points and six rebounds in 27 minutes.
Thompson generally plays better than this alongside Cousins and we expect him to put up better numbers on Friday if Cousins misses that game. But with or without Cousins, Thompson is a borderline fantasy starter either way.

Wed Feb 19 201422:22Kings won't get Jack unless they deal JT
The Cavs are not inclined to send Jarrett Jack to Sacramento unless they find a third team to take Jason Thompson.
Thompson is signed through the 2016-17 season and it's not going to be easy to unload his deal at all. The Kings are likely to make another deal and should be burning up the phone lines on Thursday.

Tue Feb 11 201421:57Jason Thompson goes scoreless in loss
Jason Thompson failed to score and played just 15 minutes in Tuesday's loss to the Cavaliers.
He had three rebounds and two blocks before leaving, but that was it. Thompson picked up three quick fouls and has really been struggling offensively, scoring just 4.4 points per game over his last five. He was crashing the boards recently, but due to the limited minutes, had just three of them tonight. The good news is that he's not injured and is still starting for the Kings, but he is far from a must-own player at this point. Derrick Williams played 27 minutes and scored 10 minutes tonight, and could be ready to challenge Thompson for his job.

Tue Feb 4 201403:25Thompson hits the skids with Cousins back
Jason Thompson scored just one point with four rebounds in 20 minutes on Monday against the Bulls.
With DeMarcus Cousins back it's well past time for owners in standard formats to move along. Even with Cousins out, Thompson was just a desperation play.

Sat Feb 1 201401:05Thompson struggles against Dirk on Friday
Jason Thompson played just 19 foul-plagued minutes in Friday's loss to the Mavs, scoring eight points on 4-of-7 shooting with four rebounds and no steals or blocks.
Thompson got eaten alive by Dirk Nowitzki and Co. and owners should be more than willing to move along even with DeMarcus Cousins (ankle) still missing games.

Thu Jan 30 201402:20Jason Thompson gets shut down by Grizzlies
Jason Thompson was kept in check by the Grizzlies on Wednesday with six points, seven boards and one assist in 31 minutes.
He scored 19 points vs, the Jazz on Monday, but the Grizzlies interior defense is essentially a polar opposite. Thompson's fantasy value is likely going to head south with DeMarcus Cousins expected back this week, so those who added him might want to plan on swapping him out.

Tue Jan 28 201400:00Jason Thompson posts 19 and 11 vs. Jazz
Jason Thompson scored 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting with 11 rebounds and two blocks in Monday's loss to the Jazz.
Thompson did most of his damage in the first quarter leaving some folks to wonder if they'd be telling their kids about the Jason Thompson night. As long as the Kings are depleted he's looking like a guy you want to consider in lineups.

Sat Jan 25 201404:29Thompson can't find the range on Friday
Jason Thompson missed all eight of his field goal attempts in Friday's overtime loss, finishing with one point, 10 rebounds and one block in 32 minutes.
Thompson has been a very low-end center option best suited for deeper leagues lately and he wasn't even that tonight.

Thu Jan 23 201400:44Jason Thompson has 12 & 8 for Kings
Jason Thompson had 12 points, eight rebounds and a steal in Wednesday's loss to the Rockets.
He's averaging 10.0 points, 8.4 rebounds and 1.0 blocks over his last five games, and could be in line for a lot more minutes if DeMarcus Cousins (ankle) and Rudy Gay (Achilles) are going to miss time with the injuries they suffered in this one.
