Tue Jan 3 201201:05Douglas rolling along for Knicks, owners
Toney Douglas scored 22 points on 8-of-19 shooting (including four treys) with four rebounds, four assists, and a steal on Monday against the Raptors.
He made a few boneheaded plays but he's rolling along now in fantasy leagues. He has about 3-4 weeks to prove he should hold down the starting job over an aging, injury-prone, and possibly out-of-shape Baron Davis. Davis, as you can recall, picked up his game at the end of last year in Cleveland, so he shouldn't be counted out.

Sat Dec 31 201123:02Toney Douglas has big game in easy win
Toney Douglas had 17 points, eight assists, two steals and four 3-pointers on 6-of-18 shooting in 31 minutes Saturday.
Douglas had a nice night against the dysfunctional Kings' backcourt and got some extra shots with Amare Stoudemire out. Douglas has been inconsistent and could easily lose his job if and when Baron Davis is healthy, but looked good tonight.

Fri Dec 30 201103:33Douglas struggles against the Lakers
Toney Douglas scored just five points on 2-of-8 shooting (no threes) with three rebounds, five assists, and a steal against the Lakers on Thursday.
Douglas is averaging just 10.0 points on 34.2 percent shooting with 0.7 threes and 3.7 assists, but at least the 3.7 rebounds and 1.7 steals help cushion the blow. The excitement surrounding Douglas has subsided, but with the Knicks playing horribly we'd like to wait a bit longer before passing full judgment. Maybe it's the chicken and the egg, but if Douglas struggles when the Knicks are winning then we'll have our answer.

Sun Dec 25 201115:22Toney Douglas scores 19 in Knicks win
Toney Douglas had 19 points, four assists, three steals and two 3-pointers in Sunday's win over the Celtics.
Rajon Rondo was dominant today, but Douglas still managed to hold his own. He hit just 8-of-19 shots, but until Baron Davis returns and steals his job, Douglas is worth starting every day.

Wed Dec 21 201123:20Toney Douglas plays well on Wednesday
Toney Douglas had 13 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two 3-pointers on 5-of-14 shooting Wednesday.
The bad news is that Baron Davis was dressed tonight and warming up, making us believe he'll be back sooner than later from his back injury. Douglas should still be worth owning, but Baron will start if and when he's healthy.

Sat Dec 17 201116:36Toney Douglas quiet in start at PG
Toney Douglas started at PG for the Knicks on Saturday, finishing with five points, six rebounds, five assists and zero steals in 30 minutes.
It's never wise to read into pre-season boxscores (Renaldo Balkman led all scorers). Douglas would be a terrific fantasy option if he keeps the starting job, but the potential arrival of Baron Davis is a bit unsettling.

Sun Dec 11 201109:47Knicks comfortable w/ Toney Douglas at PG?
Toney Douglas would be the Knicks' starting PG if the season began on Friday, but Howard Beck of the NY Times writes that .team officials are still searching for a reliable starter."
New York is interested in J.J. Barea (who doesn't seem like a starting PG) and possibly Baron Davis (if he is waived), but coach Mike D'Antoni has said he's comfortable with Douglas as a starter. Beck describes Douglas as "more of a combination guard," but in nine starts last season he did dole out 5.9 assists in 29 minutes per game. Add in his copious 3-point shooting and he's a very intriguing fantasy sleeper.

Fri Dec 9 201120:36Toney Douglas set to handle Knicks' PG job
Mike D'Antoni said Friday that the Knicks will not be hunting for another PG following Chauncey Billups' exit, and that Toney Douglas can handle the job.
D'Antoni added that the offense will "run through Melo," but there is still a lot of value in being the starting PG for the Knicks. D'Antoni thrives on pushing the tempo and handing the ball to Melo for a hundred jab steps just won't be an every possession strategy. Douglas will defer much more than Billups, who could have been drafted as high as Round 3 by some folks, so targeting Douglas in the later-middle rounds sense given the drop-off in experience, ability, and expected utilization.

Fri Dec 2 201112:55Toney Douglas (shoulder) cleared for contact
Toney Douglas (shoulder surgery) has been cleared by the Knicks medical staff and will be ready for full-contact drills when training camp begins.
Douglas had a torn labrum and was rehabbing the injury as recently as a few weeks ago, but he should be ready (if a bit rusty) for the start of the season. As long as Chauncey Billups is healthy, it's doubtful that he'll provide reliable fantasy value.

Thu Dec 1 201116:40Toney Douglas says shoulder is fully healed
Toney Douglas showed up after the lockout sporting more muscle and declared his surgically repaired right shoulder fully recovered.
These are both good signs for the young guard, who will likely back up both guard spots again this season for the Knicks.

Thu Sep 8 201122:33Amare says Toney's shoulder is doing good
Amare Stoudemire reported that Toney Douglas' right (shooting) shoulder surgery "went well" and that he is "doing great."
We'll have to hear from Douglas or team officials before we declare him fully healthy, but it's good to hear nonetheless. He expected to be at full strength in July, so any news to the contrary would be problematic. Douglas could have some value coming off the bench this year, but we're not targeting him on draft day.

Sun Jun 19 201110:01Knicks discuss trading Toney Douglas to MIN
The Knicks have discussed a trade that would send Toney Douglas to Minnesota in exchange for Jonny Flynn.
Douglas is coming off major shoulder surgery, but he does expect to be playing by July. His range has improved and he's a solid defender, but he lacks playmaking skills and therefore makes a shaky backup PG, which is what the Knicks need. There is no deal imminent, but clearly both Flynn and Douglas are available for the right price.

Fri May 27 201111:22Toney Douglas (shoulder) targeting July
Knicks guard Toney Douglas said that his surgically-repaired right shoulder is "getting there" and he expects to be at full strength by July.
Douglas has been doing "a variety of rehab exercises, but he's far from 100%." His toughness is commendable, as we didn't know the severity of the injury until after the playoffs, and he should have a sizable role backing up veteran Chauncey Billups again next season.

Wed May 4 201117:18Toney Douglas (shoulder) out 3-4 months
Toney Douglas had arthroscopic right shoulder surgery on Wednesday to repair a torn labrum. He is expected to miss 3-4 months.
Douglas battled through a vague shoulder injury during the latter part of the season and the playoffs, but the team hadn't indicated that it was serious enough to require surgery. The good news is that he should be healed and ready to go for training camp.

Tue Apr 26 201109:45Douglas not a point guard candidate
Beat writer Alan Hahn says that handing the starting point guard job to Toney Douglas is not a realistic option.
Douglas can certainly score the ball, but Hahn points out that he's not a playmaker. Without an in-house candidate at point guard, it seems like the Knicks have to bring back Chauncey Billups for $14.7 million. Douglas projects as a scoring guard off the bench again next season.

Sat Apr 23 201114:11Toney Douglas (shoulder) will play Sunday
Toney Douglas didn't shoot during Saturday's practice because his right shoulder was bothering him. He will play in Game 4 on Sunday.
With Chauncey Billups ailing the Knicks need a string of big games from Douglas, but he's challenged by a sore shoulder, inexperience, and the Celtics' defense. Expect a spirited game as the Knicks try to avoid being swept in front of their rabid hometown fans.

Fri Apr 22 201122:52Douglas serviceable in start for Billups
Toney Douglas started for injured Chauncey Billups (knee) in Friday's Game 3, scoring 15 points on 4-of-6 shooting (3-of-4 from downtown) with three rebounds and three assists.
With the Knicks down 3-0 in the series, they may not rush Billups back and risk further injury, so Douglas may end up starting another game. If he does, another night like this is a reasonable expectation.

Tue Apr 19 201122:07Toney Douglas scores 14 points
Toney Douglas survived early foul trouble to play 34 minutes in Tuesday's Game 2 loss, but hit just 5-of-16 shots (including two threes) for 14 points with seven rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
His shooting will be picked on, but he only turned the ball over once and played reasonably well for a second year player in his first postseason start. That said, the talk of Chauncey Billups being deemed expendable if Douglas had a big night will go away with a whimper. Billups is targeting a return in Game 3, though he's still questionable.

Tue Apr 19 201111:21Douglas leads NBA in three-pointers since ASB
Toney Douglas leads the NBA in three-point attempts made since the All-Star Break.
Douglas has proven his worth in the NBA, and it's worth noting that he's had such success beyond the arc considering Chauncey Billups will be sidelined in Game 2. If the Knicks win with Douglas running the point, there are bound to be some question marks regarding the veteran's lucrative contract option for next season.

Sun Apr 17 201122:05Toney Douglas scores eight off bench
Toney Douglas had eight points, two assists and two 3-pointers in 26 minutes on Sunday.
With Chauncey Billups going down with a strained knee, Douglas makes for a savvy fantasy pick in playoff leagues if you haven't had your draft yet.
