Tue Jan 28 2014 | 21:50 | Greg Stiemsma gets 31 minutes on Tuesday |
Greg Stiemsma played 31 minutes against the Cavs on Tuesday with nine points, 11 boards, one assist, one steal and two blocks. |
He was a DNP-CD on Sunday and was on the other end of the spectrum tonight as he played more minutes than any other Pelican big man not named Anthony Davis. This is nice to see from Stiemsma, but he's still hands-off material in almost all leagues. |

Sun Jan 19 2014 | 02:12 | Greg Stiemsma stinks in start |
Greg Stiemsma was ineffective in his start against the Warriors on Saturday with two points, two boards, one block in 12 minutes. |
The Pelicans have lost Ryan Anderson (back) and Jason Smith for a while and it looks like they may roll with Stiemsma as the starter. Tonight's game is a pretty good example of how low his fantasy value is right now. He's only a deep-league specialist for blocks. |

Sat Jan 18 2014 | 18:30 | Greg Stiemsma to start at center for Pelicans |
With Jason Smith (knee) out indefinitely, Greg Stiemsma will start at center for the Pelicans on Saturday. |
Alexis Ajinca will serve as his primary backup, with help from Jeff Withey, and Stiemsma is worth watching if you're in need of blocks. He's averaging 2.6 points, 3.6 rebounds and 0.8 blocks in 15 minutes per game this season, so expectations should be kept to a bare minimum. |

Mon Dec 30 2013 | 23:25 | Stiemsma (knee) returns to action on Monday |
Greg Stiemsma (knee) returned to action on Monday in a six-minute appearance. |
The Pellies could use a big guy to keep Anthony Davis from having to battle all of the heavies, but it's unclear what Stiemsma can give whether he's healthy or not. At a minimum he's another big body to throw at teams alongside Jason Smith and Alexis Ajinca. |

Fri Nov 15 2013 | 19:34 | Greg Stiemsma (left knee) out 6-8 weeks |
Greg Stiemsma (left knee) will miss the next 6-8 weeks with a sprained left MCL. |
He suffered the injury on Tuesday night and did not return. Stiemsma has a Grade-2 sprain, so his prognosis is on par with similar injuries. Jason Smith will pick up some extra minutes along with newly-signed Lou Amundson. |

Tue Nov 12 2013 | 23:31 | Greg Stiemsma suffers left knee injury |
Greg Stiemsma went down with an apparent left knee injury on Tuesday and couldn't leave the court under his own power, at least initially. |
He was basically carried to the locker room and if he's going to miss time it should mean even more minutes for Jason Smith, who has been playing very well at center for the Pelicans recently. |

Sat Oct 26 2013 | 17:23 | Stiemsma may lose starting C job to Smith |
Greg Stiemsma averaged just 1.0 points per game during the preseason and Jason Smith replaced him as the Pelicans' starting center for Friday's finale. |
The starting job was there for the taking, but Stiemsma's lousy preseason has thrown cold water on his early-season outlook. He may still block enough shots to hold specialist value, but Smith's game is more versatile and his probable starting status makes him a more appealing late-round big man. |

Mon Oct 14 2013 | 12:06 | Greg Stiemsma hasn't yielded starting job yet |
Monty Williams said that Greg Stiemsma "hasn't done anything to lose the [starting center] spot." |
"I think he's a good fit for that group," said Williams, referring to Jrue Holiday, Eric Gordon, Al-Farouq Aminu and Anthony Davis. Stiemsma hasn't done much to earn the starting job, either, and he remains a blocks-specialist until he proves otherwise. Monty also mentioned that he likes the pairing of Ryan Anderson and Jason Smith off the bench, though both guys remain in the mix for a starting spot. |

Sun Oct 6 2013 | 10:09 | Greg Stiemsma struggles in Pelicans debut |
Greg Stiemsma was scoreless and failed to grab any rebounds in 10 minutes vs. Dwight Howard and the Rockets on Saturday. |
Stiemsma started at center for his new team but didn't last long, finishing with more fouls (three) than all of his other stats combined (one assist, one block). Even if he hangs onto the starting gig, he's only useful as a last-ditch source of blocks. |

Wed Oct 2 2013 | 09:57 | Greg Stiemsma projects as Pelicans' center |
Pelicans coach Monty Williams said he "like[s] the idea" of a second unit featuring Tyreke Evans, Ryan Anderson and Jason Smith. |
This leaves Greg Stiemsma as the team's likely starting center, alongside Anthony Davis. Plantar fasciitis and a backup role for the Wolves limited Stiemsma to 16 minutes per game last season, yet he still averaged 3.4 rebounds and 1.2 blocks. Anyone searching for a shot-blocker in the late rounds should give him a close look. |

Tue Sep 10 2013 | 15:01 | Greg Stiemsma aims to start at C for Pelicans |
Greg Stiemsma hopes to earn the Pelicans' starting center job this season. |
A starting job isn't totally out of the question for Stiemsma. Former starting C Robin Lopez was traded away this summer, and stats from 82games.com reveal that Anthony Davis and Ryan Anderson didn't play together in any of the Hornets' five most frequent lineups last season (they appear together twice in the top 20). Fantasy owners should keep an eye on the Pelicans rotations during the preseason -- if nothing else, Stiemsma's career 3.2 blocks per 36 minutes give him a bit of upside. |

Pelicans sign C Greg Stiemsma. |
The deal, first reported by ESPN's Marc Stein, is reportedly a one-year deal worth $2.7 million. Stiemsma figures to play significant minutes at center in New Orleans now that Robin Lopez is gone, but his fantasy usefulness is limited to blocks and rebounds (2.7 blocks and 7.8 rebounds per 36 minutes last season). |

Wed Jul 10 2013 | 11:22 | Pelicans in the lead for FA Greg Stiemsma |
There are at least 10 teams interested in free agent C Greg Stiemsma, but the Pelicans are in "pole position" to sign him. |
New Orleans' frontcourt is thin on true centers, featuring Anthony Davis, Ryan Anderson, Lou Amundson, Jason Smith and rookie Jeff Withey. They should be able to offer Stiemsma a competitive salary and a bigger role than most teams, but his fantasy usefulness is limited to blocks and rebounds (2.7 blocks and 7.8 rebounds per 36 minutes last season). |

Mon Jul 8 2013 | 08:53 | Wolves could bring back Greg Stiemsma |
The Timberwolves could bring back unrestricted free agent Greg Stiemsma. |
He was waived by the Wolves on Sunday due to his contract being guaranteed on July 22. "This was a cap move," Stiemsma's agent Mark Bartelstein said. "They like him. There are so many different variables right now with teams and their cap space." Stiemsma could still wind up with the Wolves, but he would see less minutes with the team drafting center Gorgui Dieng, assuming Nikola Pekovic re-signs with the team. |

Sun Jul 7 2013 | 16:55 | Wolves waive Greg Stiemsma Sunday |
Timberwolves waive C Greg Stiemsma. |
It was an expected move before his contract became guaranteed. Stiemsma started 19 games for the injured Wolves last season, scoring 6.5 points with 5.6 boards and 1.3 blocks in 25.3 minutes in those outings. He'll latch on with another team once the smoke clears with the bigger free agents. |

Sat Jun 29 2013 | 12:19 | Wolves expected to waive Greg Stiemsma |
The Timberwolves are expected to waive Greg Stiemsma before his contract becomes guaranteed, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. |
The Timberwolves must make the call by July 17 or Stiemsma's $2.5 million salary will become guaranteed for next season. Minnesota is attempting to clear cap space to re-sign Chase Budinger and Nikola Pekovic while also chasing a free-agent small forward and/or shooting guard. Even if Stiemsma is waived, he should be able to catch on as a backup center somewhere in the league. |

Fri Jun 7 2013 | 09:25 | July 17 decision day for Greg Stiemsma's deal |
The Timberwolves have until July 17 to decide whether or not to pick up the option on Greg Stiemsma's contract. |
Stiemsma could be brought back as a reserve behind restricted free agent Nikola Pekovic (if he's re-signed), but it's also possible the team moves in a different direction. If the Steamer isn't back in Minnesota, he shouldn't have much of an issue latching on with another team as their backup big man. |

Wed Apr 17 2013 | 23:40 | Greg Stiemsma fills stat sheet in win |
Greg Stiemsma made another start at center for injured Nikola Pekovic on Wednesday and had 12 points, nine boards, a career-high five steals, and a block in a win over the Spurs. |
Stiemsma is usually good for some blocks whenever he's getting run, but we didn't see the steals coming. As long as other centers are healthy, he won't be worth owning in most fantasy leagues next year. |

Sat Apr 13 2013 | 00:34 | Stiemsma plays 41 minutes in start |
Greg Stiemsma played 41 minutes in a start at center against the Jazz, scoring 10 points with seven boards, one assist, three steals and two blocks on Friday. |
Nikola Pekovic is out with a left calf contusion and there's a very good chance he'll be out against the Suns on Saturday. There are only four games on Saturday, so Stiemsma is really a must-stream option in daily leagues. |
