Thu Sep 27 201213:17Greg Stiemsma (plantar fasciitis) is 'fine'
Greg Stiemsma (plantar fasciitis) is "fine," and the team is "just being cautious" with him.
Stiemsma's feet were reportedly feeling "great" in early September, and barring any setbacks, the Steamer should be ready to go before opening night. He's a bargain bin blocks specialist and nothing more for fantasy owners.

Wed Sep 26 201218:01Stiemsma still not ready for 5 on 5 contact
Greg Stiemsma still has issues with his foot and is not ready for 5-on-5 contact, according to teammate Nikola Pekovic.
This contradicts a report from Sep. 6, when Stiema's feet were feeling "great," but details are sketchy because Pekovic is not a doctor. Plantar fasciitis could be an ongoing issue with Stiemsma, but unless you're desperate for blocks at the end of your draft, don't plan on drafting him. Consider him questionable for opening night.

Thu Sep 6 201209:46Greg Stiemsma's plantar fasciitis improved
Greg Stiemsma's feet are reportedly feeling "great."
Stiemsma battled plantar fasciitis for much of last season with the Celtics, but he's apparently recovered during the offseason and it shouldn't be an issue now that he's with the Timberwolves. He'll serve as Nikola Pekovic's backup and offer very limited value as a blocks specialist in deeper leagues.

Thu Aug 2 201214:44Timberwolves sign C Greg Stiemsma
Timberwolves sign C Greg Stiemsma on Thursday.
They finally made it official after the Celtics withdrew their qualifying offer to the big man. Stiemsma will come off the bench and back up starter Nikola Pekovic, taking over the role formerly held by Mr. Darko Milicic. He'll block some shots again after averaging 1.5 of them per game last year, but shouldn't get enough minutes to be worth owning in most fantasy leagues. If he does get more minutes than we're expecting, the blocks will follow, as he was second in the league last year in blocks per minute, trailing only Serge Ibaka.

Tue Jul 24 201209:11Celtics withdraw qualifying offer to Stiemsma
The Celtics have withdrawn their qualifying contract offer to Greg Stiemsma.
This should clear the way for Stiemsma to officially sign with the Timberwolves in the coming days. Celtics GM Danny Ainge said that the team had no way to match the offer on the "Steamer," and the center reached an agreement with the Timberwolves on a one-year, $3 million deal. "When it's practical to get everybody together, Greg will sign with Minnesota," his agent said. He's expected to serve as Nikola Pekovic's primary backup and is a bargain bin blocks specialist.

Sat Jul 21 201217:35Wolves, Stiemsma agree on offer sheet
The Timberwolves and Greg Stiemsma have agreed to terms on an offer sheet believed to be worth $3 million over one year.
The Celtics will have three days to match the offer, but they're expected to let Stiemsma walk since the offer exceeds the $2.0 million biannual exception, which is all they can afford under the salary cap. Assuming he lands in Minnesota, Stiemsma should get 15-25 minutes in a backup role behind Nikola Pekovic and Kevin Love. Fantasy owners take note -- he averaged 1.5 blocks last season, in under 14 minutes per game.

Sat Jul 21 201209:36Greg Stiemsma receives offer from third team
Restricted FA Greg Stiemsma has received an offer from a team other than the Timberwolves, and ESPN Boston reports that the Celtics "almost certainly" won't retain him.
It's unknown which third team has entered the bidding for Stiemsma, but the Celtics are up against the luxury tax and their only flexibility resides in the $2.0 million biannual exception, which likely won't be enough to keep him.

Tue Jul 17 201210:47Wolfson: Timberwolves expect to sign Stiemsma
The Timberwolves "expect to get" RFA Greg Stiemsma.
The report states that Boston is over the cap, and the Wolves "feel like they will be able to structure the contract in a fashion such that Celtics GM Danny Ainge won't be able to match." Stiemsma has been connected to the Timberwolves previously, so nobody should be surprised if the move goes down. Should he sign, he'll backup Nikola Pekovic and will have no sustainable fantasy value.

Sat Jul 7 201218:24Wolves court Stiemsma, but no offer made yet
The Wolves reiterated their interest in Greg Stiemsma on Saturday, but they have not made him an offer as they await the outcome of their offer sheet for Nicolas Batum.
The Celtics gave Stiemsma a $1.1 million qualifying option and can match whatever offer the Wolves make, and thus far they seem committed to retaining him. WEEI.com points out that Stiemsma's block percentage of 8.5 percent last season was second only to Serge Ibaka on a per-minute basis.

Fri Jul 6 201213:24Wolves push back meeting w/ Stiemsma
The Timberwolves are interested in free agent C Greg Stiemsma, but pushed back a meeting with him to Saturday, as they try to figure out their financial situation after agreeing to sign Brandon Roy, and the possible arrival of Nicolas Batum.
Stiemsma was productive for the Celtics last year and he could be a nice backup for David Kahn, Rick Adelman and the Wolves. We should know more on the possibility of him going to Minnesota on Saturday night.

Mon Jul 2 201220:53Greg Stiemsma withdraws from Select Team
A foot injury has caused Celtics big man Greg Stiemsma to withdraw from the USA Select Team.
Jeremy Lin is also out (due to his contract), but we're going to assume that Stiemsma will be fine by the start of training camp. However, he is recovering from plantar fasciitis, which is a tough thing for an athlete to shake.

Sun Jul 1 201213:38Stiemsma most interested in Wolves, Celts
Restricted FA Greg Stiemsma is most interested in signing with the Wolves or Celtics.
Boston has the right to match any offer for Stiemsma, who gave their thin frontcourt critical minutes throughout the shortened 2011-12 season. He projects as a backup center and blocks-specialist wherever he lands.

Fri Jun 29 201215:10Celtics extend qualifying offer to Stiemsma
The Celtics have extended a qualifying contract offer to C Greg Stiemsma, making him a restricted free agent.
By extending the qualifying offer to Stiemsma, the Celtics will now be able to match any offer on him. Stiemsma was a fantasy specialist last season, offering blocks at an alarming rate for only playing 14 minutes per game. He averaged 1.6 swats per game and often put up high volume blocks when given major minutes. If he does return to Boston, he will be nothing more than a block specialist in fantasy circles.

Tue Jun 12 201209:25Greg Stiemsma wants to re-sign with Celtics
Restricted free agent Greg Stiemsma said that he would like to re-sign with the Celtics.
"To come back to play for Doc (Rivers), hopefully we can make that work out," he said. "Boston is definitely my No. 1 choice." Stiemsma did also say that he'll have to do whatever is best financially for he and his family, but the center was clear that he wants to come back to the Celtics. Stiemsma averaged 2.9 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.6 blocks on 54.6 percent shooting over 14 minutes per game.

Sat May 26 201222:49Stiemsma (feet) struggles in five minutes
Greg Stiemsma (plantar fasciitis) played five minutes during Game 7, finishing with two personal fouls and no other statistics to his credit.
Stiemsma received a cortisone shot between Game 6 (which he asked to be taken out of due to excessive pain) and Game 7. The bone bruise in his ankle has finally healed, but he's likely to struggle with sore feet the rest of the postseason -- the Celts only have one day of rest before Game 1 of the conference finals.

Greg Stiemsma (plantar fasciitis) asked to be taken out of Game 6 due to the pain, but he should be available for Game 7.

Thu Apr 26 201211:34Greg Stiemsma iffy for Thursday night
Greg Stiemsma (feet) did not participate in shootaround and is questionable to play on Thursday against the Bucks.
Stiemsma has been dealing with foot issues for over a month, so it would be surprising to see him play in this one. We should get official word on his status before tipoff, but he's a poor bet to see extended minutes even if he plays.

Wed Apr 25 201208:55Greg Stiemsma dealing with plantar fasciitis
Greg Stiemsma (sore feet) revealed that he's actually dealing with plantar fasciitis.
Plantar fasciitis is never a term anyone wants hear associated with basketball players, but Stiemsma didn't sound overly concerned and has been playing through it for a little while. His status is undecided for Thursday's game, but he should be ready to play in the postseason.

Updating a previous item, Greg Stiemsma (sore feet) has been ruled out of Tuesday's game against the Heat.
