Wed Jan 8 201411:21Ben McLemore comes off bench vs. Blazers
Ben McLemore was removed from the starting lineup in favor of Marcus Thornton for Tuesday's game vs. the Blazers.
The rookie had started 26 of the previous 32 games for the Kings, but coach Mike Malone believes a move to the bench may help him "relax like he did earlier in the year." Over the past five games McLemore is averaging just five points while shooting 29.4 percent from the field and 23.5 percent from three-point range. The seventh-overall pick in this year's draft is a big part of the Kings' future, but until we see him get more minutes he's best left on waivers outside of dynasty leagues.

Sun Dec 29 201321:57Ben McLemore awful in 31 minutes vs. Spurs
Despite logging 31 minutes vs. the Spurs on Sunday, Ben McLemore only had five points, two turnovers and four personal fouls to his credit.
It was a dismal outing for this year's No. 7 draft pick, who came in shooting 37.8 percent from the field with more turnovers (32) than assists (30) on the season. He has some deep-league specialist appeal thanks to solid 3-point range coupled with a starting SG job, but most fantasy owners should look elsewhere for a perimeter shooter.

Sat Dec 28 201301:56McLemore plays less in big game vs. Heat
Ben McLemore played just 24 minutes in Friday's win over the Heat, scoring two points on 1-of-4 shooting with five rebounds and one assist.
McLemore had three turnovers and in a big game Mike Malone opted for Marcus Thornton (29 minutes, seven points, five boards) over the rookie. Things are going to be pretty tough for McLemore as a fourth or fifth option on offense as the roster is currently situated, but the Kings plan to give him plenty of playing time and he still profiles as a stash for the second half of the year. Whether or not owners want to make that investment now is a fair question.

Fri Dec 20 201323:25McLemore scores 20 points with four treys
Ben McLemore continued to bounce-back shooting the ball on Friday, as he hit 8-of-13 shots (including four threes) to score a career-high tying 20 points with four rebounds and one steal in 33 minutes.
McLemore was sitting on a 5-of-35 mark entering his last game and it was expected that he would start knocking some in. He's going to be inconsistent playing for a below average team, but the Kings offense has looked good since the big trade and McLemore is practically guaranteed big minutes the rest of the way. Consider him a mid-level stash until he's consistent enough to be usable in lineups.

Sun Dec 8 201301:33Ben McLemore goes for 15 and nine in win
Ben McLemore hit a huge 3-pointer in the last minute of regulation to send Saturday's game in Utah to overtime, finishing with 15 points, nine boards, one assist, two steals and one block in 38 minutes.
This comes on the heels of his career-high 20 points on Friday and the rookie has finally developed some consistency. In his last three games, McLemore averaged 16.3 points, 6.0 boards, 1.7 steals and 2.3 triples in 33.0 minutes. The six boards are nice to see from a rookie guard and he has a nice nose for the ball, so that could add to his value. As with most rookies, he'll have plenty of ups and downs, but the intrigue of a big second half makes him a nice pickup.

Sat Dec 7 201304:24McLemore scores 20 points with four treys
Ben McLemore scored 20 points on 8-of-17 shooting (including four threes) with six rebounds, one assist and two steals in the Kings' 106-100 loss to the Lakers on Friday.
McLemore's physical skills are readily apparent and even in this solid outing he is showing the hallmark signs of being a rookie, playing too fast and rushing things (like his jumper) that shouldn't be rushed. His current value is depressed by sub-40 percent shooting over the last week or so, but he is easily a 14-team value in that span and with an organizational mandate to play him heavy down the stretch there's a lot to like as a stash here. He'll improve the shooting and production along the way.

Sun Dec 1 201321:46Ben McLemore cedes minutes to Thornton
Ben McLemore's double-digit scoring skidded to a halt vs. the Warriors, as he made 1-of-5 baskets to finish with four points in 18 minutes.
Marcus Thornton got hot off the bench and this highlights the tenuous nature of McLemore's role at SG, let alone his fantasy appeal. He's shooting just 37.8 percent from the field this season, with more turnovers (14) than assists (13).

Sat Nov 30 201305:22McLemore scores 14 points in solid night
Ben McLemore scored 14 points on 5-of-12 shooting with four rebounds, three assists, two steals and one 3-point bucket in Friday's overtime loss to the Clippers.
McLemore has played well enough to maintain his starting job and he's getting more leash with every game. He has played at a 14-team level over the past two weeks, which may not pay the bills for every owner but if you have the space to stash things will look a lot nicer when he's getting closer to 30-32 mpg rather than the 25.7 he's getting over the past six games.

Sat Nov 23 201320:10Ben McLemore plays just 16 minutes
Ben McLemore played just 16 minutes due to foul trouble on Saturday and had just five points, one rebound, one assist and one 3-pointer against the Clippers.
He played 10 minutes in the first quarter then his fouls more or less kept him on the bench until crunch time. It's nice to see that coach Mike Malone brought his rookie back into a close game despite being cold, so McLemore's owners shouldn't push the panic button. It's almost always going to be a bumpy ride to own rookies, but the Kansas product should pay some dividends in the second half of the season.

Thu Nov 21 201302:35McLemore scores eight in 24 minutes
Ben McLemore shot 3-of-7 from the field for eight points with five boards, one steal and no turnovers in 24 minutes against the Suns on Wednesday.
He is coming off a career-high 19 on Tuesday and didn't hit any 3-pointers tonight. The fact that Marcus Thornton hasn't seen any playing time in the past two games suggests the Kings have cleared the runway for their rookie to get his chance. If you have the luxury of of having some patience, McLemore is worth owning.

Wed Nov 20 201301:47Ben McLemore scores 19 with 4 3-pointers
Rookie Ben McLemore hit 5-of-13 shots and four 3-pointers on his way to a career-high 19 points, five rebounds and a steal in Tuesday's tough win over the Suns.
B-Mac had scored a total of 14 points in his previous three games, so this qualifies as a breakout game while his 34 minutes were also a season high. This is a game for him to build on, but we'll have to see if he can do it again at Phoenix on Wednesday before declaring him a must-own player. And it didn't hurt that Marcus Thornton got a DNP-CD tonight, never leaving the Kings bench.

Sat Nov 16 201305:07McLemore still quiet, but showing signs
Ben McLemore was an afterthought offensively with just 2-of-6 makes from the field for seven points, but he did scrape together six rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block in 32 minutes on Friday.
McLemore's athleticism is off the charts and unlike many of his teammates he knows how to move off the ball and he's working hard out there. As the Kings were prepping to break the world indoor sound record he cocked back for a dunk that might have ended the creaky old building known as Sleep Train Arena had he actually finished it. We warned about the development factor here, so if added him and need to move on for a productive player we'd understand, but tonight was a step forward for the youngster.

Thu Nov 14 201302:34Ben McLemore awful in first start for Kings
Ben McLemore made his first NBA start on Wednesday but it was a dud, hitting just 1-of-8 shots for two points and two assists in 15 minutes.
Marcus Thornton had his best game of the season coming off the bench with 24 points and four 3-pointers in 34 minutes. We're going to preach patience with McLemore, but a move to the bench for Thornton could be just what he needed to get going. If we had to pick one to own right now, we'd take Thornton after the instant offense off the bench he provided in this one.

Wed Nov 13 201320:53Ben McLemore is starting on Wednesday night
Ben McLemore will start for the Kings on Wednesday night.
There have been rumors swirling for a while, but given the way McLemore has been playing, he was the favorite to win the starting gig.

Sun Nov 10 201301:38Ben McLemore scores 13 off Kings bench
Ben McLemore hit 4-of-8 shots and 3-of-3 3-pointers for 13 points, three rebounds and a steal in 28 minutes of Saturday's loss.
A frustrated coach Mike Malone said after the game that changes could be coming to the starting lineup for the Kings, and McLemore could end up replacing Marcus Thornton at shooting guard. He's still not a must-own player, but if you want to take a flier on him in hopes that he starts sooner than later, now is the time for action.

Wed Nov 6 201302:03Rookie Ben McLemore coming on for Kings
Rookie Ben McLemore hit 6-of-12 shots and three 3-pointers off the Kings bench for 15 points, six rebounds, an assist and two steals in Tuesday's loss.
He's now averaging 17 points, five rebounds and three 3-pointers over his last two games and may challenge Marcus Thornton for the starting shooting guard job. Then again, he'll have to stay consistent to do so, and we're still not ready to trust McLemore to play like this every night. But if he's available in your league, it looks like he's worth a flier in case nights like this become a trend instead of breaking news.

Tue Nov 5 201310:59Ben McLemore impressing Kings coach
Ben McLemore has been impressing Kings head coach Michael Malone.
While this might fall under the category of coach speak, Michael Malone remarked, "the most exciting thing was Ben McLemore" after Sacramento's game on Sunday. Though he will continue to come off the bench, the Kings' prized rookie scored 19 points against the Warriors and should earn himself more minutes going forward. McLemore is more of a high-upside speculative add right now, but he's worth a look in most fantasy leagues.

Sun Nov 3 201301:42Ben McLemore scores 19 in ugly loss
Rookie Ben McLemore came off the bench to hit 8-of-17 shots and three 3-pointers for a career-high 19 points, four rebounds, one assist and one steal in Saturday's blowout loss to the Warriors.
Mac looked good in this one, but hit just 3-of-9 3-pointers and one of those was a bank shot. He'll have some good games, but it's hard to see him playing this well on nights when the Kings are competitive.

Sun Oct 27 201317:32McLemore to come off the bench to start year
Ben McLemore will come off the bench to start the season according to coach Mike Malone.
"You can make a case for him as a starter, but I love him in an off the bench role right now," said Malone, and it's looking more and more likely that the final exhibition game was a preview for the team's starting lineup. In that game they started Greivis Vasquez, Marcus Thornton, John Salmons, Patrick Patterson and Boogie Cousins.

Thu Oct 24 201301:46Ben McLemore plays 25 minutes in win
Ben McLemore played 25 minutes but hit just 2-of-5 shots for nine points, three rebounds, one assist, a block and a 3-pointer in Wednesday's preseason game.
He had a 23-point game on Sunday and this is probably a good indication of what he'll do this season. Play solid minutes, have some big nights, along with some duds.
