Johnson later fed FJosh McRoberts for a tomahawk slam."It feels good just knowing that all the hard work you're putting in is paying off," said Johnson, whose progression -- in addition to the luxury-tax relief -- is a major reason the Heat felt comfortable dealing G Mario Chalmers. "The biggest thing for me is just to put my head down and continue to get better."

Johnson (fractured jaw) is back to full health and cleared for basketball activities, the Miami Herald reports.
Johnson and Jason Richardson will be given a long look in training camp to determine if they are ready enough to take on a larger role this season, because the Heat are reportedly looking to trade Mario Chalmers but need to feel confident in their remaining backcourt players. When Dwyane Wade or other backcourt players were sitting out last season, Johnson stepped up and put together some impressive fantasy stats in daily games, but he never had consistent enough value to warrant rostering in most standard leagues. With Goran Dragic locked into the majority of the minutes at point guard and Wade, Gerald Green, and Justise Winslow expected to play shooting guard, it's hard to see where Johnson will get minutes when the Heat are healthy. He's a role player who could have a few good daily games this season, but don't target him in standard leagues at this time.
Sat Aug 1 201510:59Johnson (jaw)
Johnson (jaw), three weeks removed from jaw surgery, has resumed weight lifting and shooting, and he will enter training camp battling for point guard minutes, the Sun-Sentinel reports.
Johnson played the first three games in the Orlando Pro Summer Leauge before fracturing his jaw. In the stint, Johnson was tasked with running point guard duties, a role that offers increased playing time with Shabazz Napier being shipped off to the Magic. Johnson recently had 50 percent of his contract for the upcoming season guaranteed, and the undrafted second-year guard must participate in the rookie symposium because he missed the proceedings last year. If Mario Chalmers does get traded, Johnson is in line for a substantial role this season.
Tue Jul 21 201511:14Johnson (jaw) expected to return in time for training camp
Johnson (jaw) is expected to return in time for training camp, the Palm Beach Post reports.
Johnson suffered a broken jaw during summer league. He's already eating solid foods and in good spirits. He'll enter training camp competing with six other guards vying for a roster spot.
Thu Jul 9 201510:13Johnson will have surgery on Thursday to repair broken jaw
Johnson will have surgery on Thursday to repair a broken jaw, Tim Reynolds of the AP reports.
Johnson will reportedly be alright, but a broken anything is never good news and he will likely be out for the rest of summer league. He sustained the injury in Wednesday's game, and through three summer league outings, Johnson is averaging 9.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists in just over 19 minutes per game. It is unclear how long he will be out, but given that he showed flashes of being a solid rotation player last season, he will still look to build on that role in this coming season.

Johnson averaged 5.9 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.0 steal, 0.6 three-pointers, and 0.3 blocks in 18 minutes per game during 32 regular season games in 2014-15.
After signing two 10-day contracts in January, Johnson was signed for the remainder of the season with the Heat. He was efficient in limited minutes, including a 26-point outburst against the Suns in early March. Johnson solidified himself as a capable backup shooting guard behind Dwyane Wade and could see a rise in minutes next season given Wade's injury-prone history. The 23-year-old's contract is set to expire after the 2015-16 season.
