Fri Jul 30 202113:04Rays Are Interested In Kris Bryant, Craig Kimbrel
The Tampa Bay Rays are expressing interest in Chicago Cubs outfielder Kris Bryant and relief pitcher Craig Kimbrel, and could trade for one or both of them, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. Rosenthal adds that there's no indication a deal is close to being completed, but the Rays now appear to be in the sweepstakes for the Cubs' top two trade chips just hours before the deadline. Kimbrel would provide a big boost to Tampa Bay's bullpen that has been ravaged by injuries, while Bryant could see more time at third base with the Rays' crowded outfield. Managers should keep an eye out for further updates as we get closer to the deadline.

Wed Jul 28 202114:15The Dodgers Have Contacted The Cubs About Craig Kimbrel
Chicago Cubs relief pitcher Craig Kimbrel is drawing interest from the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to Jon Morosi of MLB Network. Per Morosi, the Dodgers have "spoken with the Cubs about multiple players, and closer Craig Kimbrel is among them." Los Angeles is not the only team asking about Kimbrel but they would have a lot to offer the Cubs in a trade. Closer Kenley Jansen had a horrific three-game stretch last week so it would make sense that the Dodgers would want to bolster the back end of their bullpen down the stretch. Kimbrel has been phenomenal this season with a 0.49 ERA, 0.71 WHIP, and 64:13 K/BB ratio to go along with 23 saves over 36 2/3 innings. He'd fit in nicely on any contending team.

Tue Jul 27 202109:54A's get lefty reliever Chafin from Cubs for 2 minor leaguers
CHICAGO (AP) — The Oakland Athletics fortified their bullpen Monday night by acquiring left-hander Andrew Chafin from the Chicago Cubs for two minor leaguers. Chafin was 0-2 with a 2.06 ERA in 43 relief appearances covering 39 1/3 innings for the Cubs this season. The deal was announced following their 6-5 win over Cincinnati and could signal more moves to come from Chicago. The Cubs received outfielder Greg Deichmann and right-hander Daniel Palencia. Also, Chicago is to send Oakland $500,000 to cover the cost of Chafin's contract buyout, conditioned to the pitcher's 2022 option not being declined. Oakland is in second place in the AL West and holds the league's second wild-card spot by one game over Seattle. The A's are five games behind first-place Houston. The disappointing Cubs are fourth in the NL Central at 50-51 and could be very busy before Friday's trade deadline, with star players such as Anthony Rizzo, Kris Bryant, Javier Báez and Craig Kimbrel all attractive pieces potentially... Sun Jul 18 202101:01Shooting outside Nationals Park halts Padres-Washington game
WASHINGTON (AP) — The game between the San Diego Padres and Washington was suspended in the sixth inning Saturday night after police said there was a shooting outside Nationals Park. The shooting, an exchange of gunfire between people in two cars, left three people injured, according to Ashan Benedict, the Metropolitan Police Department’s executive assistant police chief. One of the people who was shot was a woman who was attending the game and who was struck while she was outside the stadium, he said. Her injuries weren’t considered life-threatening. Two people who were in one of the cars later walked into a local hospital with gunshot wounds and were being questioned by investigators, Benedict said, and the extent of their injuries wasn’t immediately clear. Investigators were still trying to locate the second vehicle involved in the shooting. The gunshots caused panic among fans inside the stadium, some of whom ducked for cover, hiding underneath tables and behind seats as announcers... [More]
