Sun Dec 9 201208:35Youkilis taking weekend to make decision
WFAN's Sweeny Murti reports that Kevin Youkilis is taking this weekend to make a decision between signing with the Yankees or Indians.
The Yankees have offered Youkilis a one-year, $12 million deal, while the Indians have extended a two-year, $18 million pact. CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reported Saturday that Youkilis was leaning towards the Yankees' offer, but Murti indicates that the Indians may be the favorites, saying the pull of manager Terry Francona and Cleveland being close to his home could outweigh the bigger average annual value from the Yankees.

Sat Dec 8 201215:58Youkilis strongly considering Yankees' offer
Jon Heyman of CBS Sports writes that it would be a "mild surprise" if Kevin Youkilis turns down the Yankees' offer.
Heyman cites wanting to play for a contender and the fact that Youkilis "doesn't shy away from the limelight" as reasons why he'll accept the offer, so the news should be taken with a grain of salt. Youkilis has received a one-year, $12 million offer from the Yankees and a two-year, $18 million deal from the Indians this offseason. Barring something unforeseen, his decision will likely come down to one of those two teams.

Fri Dec 7 201208:34Indians have offered Youk two years, $18M
ESPN's Buster Olney hears that the Indians' offer to Kevin Youkilis is for two years and $18 million.
The veteran corner infielder will make a decision between that offer and the Yankees' one-year, $12 million offer. It's an interesting decision, as the Yanks are obviously offering a higher average annual value and the chance to play for a definite contender, while the Indians can give him an extra year and the opportunity to play for former manager Terry Francona. Youkilis would also play third base before likely being moved to the DH spot in New York, while he would stick to one position (first base) in Cleveland. He seems likely to pick someone before long.

Thu Dec 6 201209:45Yanks make one-year, $12M offer to Youkilis
MLB.com's Bryan Hoch reports that the Yankees have offered Kevin Youkilis a one-year, $12 million contract.
The Indians -- along with any other team that might be interested -- will now have a chance to match or beat that proposal. Youkilis batted .235/.336/.409 with 19 home runs and 60 RBI in 122 games this summer between the Red Sox and White Sox. He'd start at third base in New York until Alex Rodriguez recovers from hip surgery.

Wed Dec 5 201215:47Tribe stepping up intensity on Kevin Youkilis
Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe writes that it looks like the Indians are "stepping up their intensity" in negotiations with free agent Kevin Youkilis.
The market for infielders appears to be picking up now that Marco Scutaro, Jeff Keppinger and Eric Chavez are off the board. Youkilis reportedly has multiple one-year and multi-year offers on the board, though the identities of the teams aren't known. The Indians are interested in using him at first base while the Yankees are eyeing him as a potential stop-gap option at third base with hip surgery looming for Alex Rodriguez.

Wed Dec 5 201211:14Kevin Youkilis considering multiple offers
Alex Speier of WEEI.com reports that Kevin Youkilis has multiple contract offers on the table.
The Yankees and Indians have been mentioned as possible landing spots for Youkilis over the past few days, but Speier hears that the Bombers aren't likely to pay the market rate, even on a one-year deal. The 33-year-old is willing to discuss one- and multi-year deals this winter after batting .235/.336/.409 with 19 home runs, 60 RBI and a .745 OPS in 122 games this past season between the Red Sox and White Sox.

Tue Dec 4 201213:18Yanks have spoken with agent for Youkilis
Jack Curry of YES Network reports that the Yankees have spoken with Kevin Youkilis' agent.
The Bombers are currently looking for a stop-gap option at third base with Alex Rodriguez expected to be out until midseason following hip surgery. Word is that Youkilis would consider a one-year deal at a premium amount, which seems to fit into the way the Yankees are doing business this offseason. It's a possibility if Youkilis can't find more appealing options elsewhere.

Sun Dec 2 201209:40Tribe in 'consistent contact' with Youk reps
Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer writes that the Indians have been in "consistent contact" with Kevin Youkilis' agent.
Youkilis would play first base and be used some in the DH spot for the Tribe. They're one of a few teams interested in the veteran corner infielder, as the Phillies and Dodgers have him on their radar, and the White Sox would like to re-sign him. Youkilis batted only .235/.336/.409 this past season, but he did hit 15 homers over 80 games with Chicago.

Tue Nov 13 201208:45Indians, Phils and Dodgers interested in Youk
Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that the Indians, Phillies and Dodgers have shown preliminary interest in free agent Kevin Youkilis.
The Mariners and Marlins have also checked in, though it's unclear whether they are serious players. Youkilis is coming off a career-low .745 OPS, but his ability to play both first and third base should serve him well on the open market.

Fri Nov 9 201218:54Dodgers expressing interest in Kevin Youkilis
The Dodgers have expressed interest in signing free agent third baseman Kevin Youkilis.
They join the Cubs, Indians, Phillies and White Sox as teams competing for the veteran infielder's services. Youkilis would only be a fit for the Dodgers if they elect to keep Hanley Ramirez at shortstop, rather than shifting him to third base to make room for Dee Gordon.

Thu Nov 8 201218:15Indians interested in Kevin Youkilis
According to Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Indians are interested in Kevin Youkilis.
The Tribe were one of the team's interested in Youk before he was ultimately shipped to the White Sox in June. He would be used mainly at first base and DH, as the Indians want to give Lonnie Chisenhall a shot at the hot corner. Youkilis batted only .235/.336/.409 this season, but he did hit 15 homers over 80 games with Chicago. The Phillies and Cubs are also known to be interested in the 33-year-old.

Wed Nov 7 201223:37Phillies 'could be a fit' for Kevin Youkilis
Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports that the Phillies "could be a fit" for Kevin Youkilis.
General manager Ruben Amaro told David Murphy of the Philadelphia Daily News Wednesday that he believes Youkilis can still be an everyday third baseman, so it sounds like he might indeed be a fit. Youkilis has been in decline the last couple years and has had trouble staying healthy, but he might still be the best of a weak free agent class at third base.

Wed Nov 7 201222:37Cubs interested in Kevin Youkilis
Patrick Mooney of CSNChicago.com reports that while the Cubs are interested in Kevin Youkilis, they "expect him to go beyond their price range and ultimately sign with a team much closer to contention."
Youkilis obviously has history with president of baseball operations Theo Epstein, and the Cubs have an opening at third base, but it doesn't appear to be a great fit at this time. Mooney mentions someone like Casey McGehee being a possibility for the Cubs, who he says are "looking for guys who could have bounce-back seasons."

Tue Oct 30 201220:51White Sox haven't ruled out Kevin Youkilis
White Sox general manager Rick Hahn hasn't ruled out the possibility of re-signing Kevin Youkilis.
Hahn said the White Sox will not make Youk a qualifying offer after declining his option, but that haven't closed the door on bringing him back. However, after re-upping with Jake Peavy and picking up Gavin Floyd's option, they don't have much money left to spend. It seems likely that he'll sign elsewhere.

Tue Oct 30 201218:23Kevin Youkilis' option declined
White Sox declined 3B Kevin Youkilis' $13 million option for 2013.
He'll receive a $1 million buyout instead. Youkilis hit 15 homers over 80 games with Chicago after coming over in a trade from Boston, but he batted just .235/.336/.409 overall for the year and wasn't worth $13 million. He'll turn 34 during spring training but should be able to land a decent contract somewhere.

The critical victory keeps them a game ahead of the Tigers in the race for the AL Central Division crown. The solo shot off Kyle Waldrop in the seventh inning was his only hit in three trips on the night, and he also walked. He's homered three times and driven home five in his last two contests.
